Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey Team - I am back and I missed you It was a real busy week in Cornwall Ontario with both the male and female golf teams. Weather was cold and wet but we made it through and I am tired. Male team finished 6th out of 15 teams in Ontario and female team had a reasonable finish as well. I was able to get a few good swims in while I was away and I really enjoyed them. Back in the class room tomorrow then the Canadian Thanksgiving Weekend (3 days of what looks like awesome weather). Next week will be busy with classes and the following week it looks like I will be off to the Canadian Province of Prince Edward Island with the female golf team for the Canadian Collegiate Golf Championships. Unfortunately team obligations and school obligations have left me with a schedule that is tough to get consistent workouts in but I am trying to stay active. I ran a real fast 5 km for me after my 7 hour car ride today and it felt so good - I just needed to move the body and I loved it. I should be able to settle in to a good routine and start some preliminary IM NYC planning before the end of the Month. Coach - I am going to need your help with this. Tim - I left a banana in a golf bag once for a few months - messy Heather - you are going to do great. Skinny Arm - great goals and awesome running. Coach - nice to see you are moving around - be careful That is all I have for now - I hope everyone is doing great. KC

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() That is weird that you asked that question becasue on the IMWI board they were talking baout the Endurance Nations coaching approach of no swiiming during the offseason (NOV-FEB). Some people mentioned that that works great for people who have a strong swimming background but for people who don't it probably isn't a smart idea. What would even be the reason for no swimming during the offseaon? For me if I miss more than 2 weeks I feel like a slug in the pool and couldn't imagine not swimming for months. It would be like starting all over again. Kevin - what type of dry land swimming training would you do? kdevarenne - 2011-10-06 10:58 AM Got a question for everyone out there. Did my first spin class today and had a great time. Really want to do it again. Thing is the Y where I swim does not have spin classes. I don't really want to pay for two memberships. Personally I'd rather pay for spin since I can do it from fall until spring and can pay for it monthly. I only use the Y for six months (Jan until Jun), but have to pay for a full year. I have somewhere I can do OWS when the weather gets warmer and it's obviously free. So if I did dry land swim training through the winter and started swimming mid to end May with a tri in JUne would I be ok? |

I've been out since Madison and will be until about Nov. 1 due to the surgery. I might get in next week but only for light workouts. Last winter I had IT band and swimming is what I could do for Nov and December and it worked great in terms of really improving my form and times. I've heard about EN taking winter off. I wondered why, too. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ok so I need your guys honest opinion - and please be honest because my feelings will not be hurt and you might actually save me from wasting alot of time-haha I have wanted to do something in the triathlon/fitness area for the past couple years but don't really have the balls to quit my job and start something up-haha. I have been trying to comeup with something online and was having a a hard time. then it kind of dawned on me... I use twitter, facebook and google to get all my information, articles, etc... regarding triathlon. It gets kind of tedious. So I was thinking what if it was all in one place. Then I was on Drudge Report and realized how something like this would be great for triathlon. Not sure if any of you look at Drudge Report - but basically he searches web for articels and posts links. His site is very simple and clean and SUPER EASY to maintain with one person. So I have basically copied his format and made The Triathlon Report. I will basically just post articles and info on triathlon so it is all in one place. i will just add a few new things throughout the day as I am doing my regular article reading. If you guys have a minute please check it out and let me know what you think? Am I wasting my time? Would you consider it a useful tool? What changes could I make? Should I not copy the drudge report style? Thanks in advance and remember please be honest! http://www.thetriathlonreport.com Tim |

A clearing house for Tri Info and an easier to use resource, sounds like a great idea to me my friend. I am guessing you have done your research and no one else is doing this? What is the business model - revenue sources etc? Can you explain that to me? One other suggestion - can you ditch the red spandex on the front page please Have a great weekend everyone. KC

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks KC and Scott for the suggestions. I have pretty much scoured the internet for triathlon info and never come across anything like it. I plan to just build up some traffic to the site then approach some companies about advertising opportunities - pricing dependant on how much traffic I can drive to the site. Haha - I figured you guys would like the red spandex! I have rotated the picture though! Scott - I added a little color. Thanks again guys! kcgolf - 2011-10-07 2:29 PM Tim - BRILLIANT and I LOVE IT. Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good Morning Team. Tim - no problems and it looks great. Nice swim yesterday and a short ride on the bike. I have not been on the bike for a few weeks so I thought I would take a real short ride and it was a struggle to be honest. My right hip was giving me some issues. I think I am going to try a little longer one this morning. Have a great day everyone. KC Edited by kcgolf 2011-10-08 9:08 AM |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hello again team. Just got off the phone with my LBS - heading there this afternoon for measurements for the new bike for next year - very excited. I have been waiting for him to figure something out for me because I have been speaking to him about a new bike for a while now and it looks like we are going with the new Specialized Shiv Comp Rival. Here is the link for it and a picture. Very excited? http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/SBCProduct.jsp?spid=66412&scid=1101&scname=Road |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey Team. Tim - order was placed today. Since it is a brand new bike for Specialized I will not be getting it probably until mid March we are guessing, which is ok I guess and that gives me more time to figure out how I am going to pay for it LOL. This of course means that my trainer riding in the winter will be on the bike I used this past season which will be ok I guess. Anyone else watching Kona on line today? KC |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() KC that's a nice looking bike. Good choice! Tim, It's a fantastic idea. Got in a 10.5 mile 'run' today. Ok, I got in a 8.5 mile run and walked 2 miles after. I was spent. I have a HM in 4 weeks. What the heck am I thinking??? Oh and to top off my disgust? I got sunburned!! in October? in NE?? Have been watching Kona on and off. Needless to say I am happy with the female outcome Am off to Lake Placid tomorrow to check and make sure the bike course is rideable ready for next weekends practice ride with girlfriends. I know it seems crazy to do it so early, but I really need to know I can do this route before I sign up to volunteer so I can sign up to race. I just like (need) to know what I am getting in to.

Tim I love it (just don't go liberal on me! lol) Now as a business to quit my job over not sure if the target market is large enough to generate enough adds to make a living. Def worth a shot on a part-time bases, the other thing is you could create something for other sports since your template is already there (runners/bikers/golf/football/baseball) Not sure what is involved but scales of economy should come into play and your market will multiply exponentially. Just my opinion |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Nice bike! Love it. I'm going to stick with mine for another season...new fork made all the difference. Now I just have to get a bigger engine.
I've been ramping up since Ironman. 3 runs a week = about 14 miles and 4-5 bikes/weekly including VO2, tempo and cadence and single pedal drills. Not trying to overdo. I have surgery on the hernia a week from Wednesday. Just staying in shape for that and burning calories to avoid the problems of post IronMan weight gain.
Afterward will be an easy ramping up. Winter base, VO2s, strength training on the bike (low rpms, high power), cadence and pedalling exercises, etc. Then LT work leading into next year. Runs on the treadmill. Yuck. I think I'm going to use some of the pre-programmed stuff to do hill-like workouts. Swimming 2-3 times with masters. I want to shave off weight from the upper body if I can. I also need to work on the glutes and hamstrings. Told that glutes are key to improving IT bands, and I'm still wondering what the heck caused those cramps in my hamstrings. Maybe we just dont have enough hills around here to really work those so weight training on them will be done - and a first really. Always work the upper body and the core with weights but depend on the bike for the rest - not enough, I'm thinking. Anyone watch the race from Kona. Spectacular.

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Scott: Kona was pretty cool to watch. I wish that I saw the telemetry on the bikes for some of the racers before the end of the race. I love seeing what type of watts they are pushing.
Is it bad that I did a run today and I was coughing up cigars from the weekend lol.. Get to see my new doc tomorrow on my leg hope they can get it figured out quickly.
Looks like our indian summer is coming to an end :-( but every nice day is one day closer to next summer.
Anyone interested in a doing a 1/2 or full marathon in Jan/feb next year, I need to get one on schedule (if allowed to run). |

New user ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi everyone! It's been a while since I've posted...hope everyone is enjoying the last of this super nice weather! I've slowly been getting back into working out. I purchased the off season training plan from Endurance Nation and trying to follow that. Between work and kids, trying to get back into a regular routine is tough. Ok, that's the last time I b!tch about trying to get back into a regular routine...I think I've said that same thing in my last 5 posts! Do or do not...there is no try Do most of you guys on here train on your own? Which do you like better? I've done both. I like both depending on the workout I guess. The group I trained with this past year had some drama that I didn't really want to be a part of. on the other hand, I find that misery does indeed love company....especially when doing the track workouts. KC - sweet ride! I thought about getting a TT bike for next year but not sure if it's worth the investment for me right now...esp. since I just got the new road bike this year. Most likely I'll slap some aero bars on. Would love hear your guys' thoughts...is a TT bike worth the investment? Are aeros on a road bike just as good? I guess I see road bikes as being more versatile. You're position is not as aggressive as on a TT bike but when climbing and descending, you're not going to be in aeros anyway, right? IDK, I've heard both sides. Just trying to figure out what I should do for IMWI, and all my other races. Tim - you are a genius! Your website is such a great idea! I like the Drudge Report format. It's clean and simple, very easy to follow. Scott - you are a machine Deb - how was the course? I'm the same way...not knowing causes unnecessary anxiety for me. I already plan on being in Madison as much as I can next year riding the bike course! Oh, so I have another question for everyone: has anyone done a cycling vacation? I saw a great deal on Living Social the other day and it's for a week long cycling vacation in Rimini, Italy. The itinerary looks amazing and the LS deal is for about $1000 off the regular trip price. You get full support, 3 meals a day, nice hotel, AND you get to ride on the same route as the Giro d'Italia! Jason has a couple monster mountain bike races in CO next year so we're seriously considering it. It'll be a nice get away and we'll still be able to get in some great training. Here's a link to the trip overview and itinerary: http://www.battaglin-usa.com/road/travel_overview.php |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I LOVE Tim's triathlonreport. I've been with a coach 3 years. We are separated now after IM for a couple of months of easy recovery and my operation...but I plan to get him back to build toward racing next year. I'm thinking about going to a USAT triathlon level 1 coaching course myself this year.

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi Team. I hope everyone had a great weekend. I really enjoyed Canadian Thanks Giving - good times with family. Coach - nothing wrong with coughing up a cigar now and again. I went to the Monday night game last night here in Detroit and managed to smoke a gar at a tailgate party before the game while watching the Tigers get beat - enjoyed the gar, have not had one in a while. Tonight - off to the Tigers game - (wow I have been busy lol). Sarah - I train on my own but have been thinking about some group stuff for next year - what kind of drama did you encounter so I can try to stay away from the crap next year? As far as bikes go - this is a want not a need lol. I have a busy week ahead of me - class, lectures and prep for taking the Girl's Golf team to Prince Edward Island next week for the Canadain College Championsips. I am hoping to get a few nice runs in on the island when I am out there. Have a great day everyone and GO TIGERS! kc Edited by kcgolf 2011-10-11 12:37 PM |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So last weekend I was at a small festival in the parking lot of some businesses on SR 40 going through my town. I noticed a couple of guys go running by at about 1:30 pm with reflective vests and lights flashing. About 10 minutes later I saw them come back and grab some of the free burgers and chicken from the festival. So I asked how long they had run today, you know - small talk amogst runners. They told me they had done 22 miles and still had 13 to go to get to their stopping point for the day. "WTF?" I thought. They then proceeded to tell me they started in San Francisco and will end up in Connecticut sometime in mid November. Trying to raise awareness of health and fitness. therun.org So after a few more minutes of chat and food they were off, and I was re-motivated to run... |
