I hadn't been keeping track but certainly will.  I have a big 'ole goose egg myself.

How about we report totals each Monday for the previous Sun-Sat?  This week let's do month to date totals.  Sound good?

Thanks for doing this...    it's a great help.  I hope it doesn't take much of your time....

March 1st-9th 4425 yards.   Don't forget March 1st was a Sat.  Might as well include March 1st with this total.

I have yet to even hit the water.  My coach has me doing some bike time trials next month and between prep for that and rehabbing the foot, the pool is elusive.

I'm going to talk to him about the next two weeks and see what I can do about creating at least a 2 week goal.  I hate missing out on a good competition!

Anyone have any races coming up.  Maybe a 5k, 10K something like that.  With all your training, i always found it fun to try a early spring 5k, just to get that race feeling back in me.

I have a half marathon coming up at the end of April.  I am planning on doing a 5k on April 19th.

My swim total for the month to date is 4500 yards.

I am thinking of a 5k sometime soon. I will let you guys know. I am also going to be taking swim lessons starting in a few weeks. I think my swimming technique is seriously dragging me down. My wife watched me for a while today and says that I rotate a lot. I have been watching instructional videos on youtube all afternoon so I will see if I can improve tomorrow. But I think I really need to get some professional help here. I have been working on bilateral breathing which I have found to be nearly impossible to do for more than a few strokes. My lung capacity has not yet improved but I am pushing them as far as I can. I am going to be making a serious push on the swim challenge for the remainder of the month. We'll see how things go.

Josh, nice work of the swim.  As you figured out swimming is all about technique, it takes a long time to get good technique, it's not something that comes over night.  It's took me years to improve my technique.  Using youtube is a great idea, i can remember watching people swim to help my stroke.  Rotating is a good thing, don't think it's a bad thing, cause remember you want to be as narrow as you can be when in the water. You don't want to swim with your shoulders facing straight ahead, cause you are creating to much resistant.  When you roatate, you are creating less resistace.  Does that make sense???  Don't worry about the bi-lat breating.  I would focus on breathing on one side until you feel you are a better swimming then work in some bi-lat breathing.  Your swimming will come around just stick with it, it just takes some time.  just my 2 cents.

My swim total is 4500 to this point in the month. I, too, will be seriously short of my goal this month.

Thanks for the advice about the swimming technique. My swim lessons start a week from today so I will be getting some personalized help soon. I thought that rotation wasn't terrible based on the water displacement issue but my wife thought it was a bit much. She may be right. But we'll see what my teacher has to say about that.

Are we doing a run challenge for April? I am planning a 5k late in the month so it would fit well with my plans, but I am up for whatever the group wants to do. I hope everyone has a great week!

I've got two things for you guys, first is a swim totals update.  Just a few days left in the month so I thought I'd prime the competitive pump:

John: Actual 9225, Goal 17000  % to goal 54%, Erin:  Actual 10700, Goal 14630 % to goal 73%, Josh: Actual 4500, Goal 15,000 % to goal 30%, Jess: Actual 80 minutes, Goal 5 hours 17%

Missing totals for Jennie and Marty.  I'll update next week.

Next, I'm in for a run challenge.  I've officially been discharged from PT.  Things are perfect but do seem to be in working order.  Are we thinking time or distance?

I am down for time of distance, whichever the group chooses. Hope everyone is having a good week.

My time goal will be 8 hours or my distance goal will be 60 miles.

Also, I would be willing to take on the challenge record keeping if Jess is tired of it. If you love it though, Jess, then have at it.

Josh, my friend, the tally tracking is all yours!  This month is shaping up to be a busy one here with my charity work so thanks!

As for the run, well, friends, it looks as if I have reinjured the paw breaking in a new pair of 2x4s, I mean shoes.  I got discharged from PT last week and strapped on my new Asic Gel Cumulous, went for 5.5 run/walk and have ended up back where I started.  I'm going to call the doc today to see what's what so until then, I won't be running.  Seriously discouraged but just need to find out what's wrong and how to fix it (again).

I'll be cheering from the sidelines!

Count me in for this month's challenge!! I'm going to have to take a look at things today to make a goal for myself.

Jess, I'm so sorry your foot is re-injured. I feel for you and hope you will recover quickly. Keep us posted!

Ok, so I'm going to challenge myself to 8 1/2 hours of running. I am going to be running in a 10 mile race the first weekend of May so I have to get the hours (and HILLS) in this month. Good luck everyone!!!

HA!  I should run for hours because I would rack up lots ... not many miles ... but lots of time out on the road

My goal will be 18 miles this month. not sure how realistic that is as I am having some foot issues and mental issues with getting out there and running
