I know I'm going to get swam over and knocked around like crazy. Crap! Me too. Just do as I do at every race...stay a little more out to the side. It may add a bit of distance to swim, but is more enjoyable than an elbow to the temple. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Don't know about everyone else, but I am excited about the race. The bulk of the training is behind us, a few days of work, a few more light workouts, and then we head to Florida. I don't really know what to expect of my performance. I had a job change and an accident while mountain biking during the back half of my training program that took me out of training for a few weeks. I feel good in general and hope I can have a PR, but won't be disappointed if not. I wish everyone a great race and hope everyone gets what they want out of it. BR, Megawatt |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well, I arrived in Florida (Jacksonville) this afternoon. Though I'm a couple hours north, my initial impression of the weather is "yeah, its warm and humid, but not enough to lose any sleep over it". The thing that worried me more is that it is seriously windy!!! Holy crap. Apparently this morning was a tornado watch, and though its probably worse up here than in Orlando, I've got to believe they are getting some good wind as well. I only brought my HED3/Renn disc wheelset, so I'll be on that no matter what. But if anyone is leaving later, and has an option for something more wind-friendly, I'd definitely recommend keeping an eye on the weather and keeping your options open. As another side note, first experience with transporting my bike in a hard case so far has been a success. Rented a Serfas bike box for $25 from the San Diego tri club, and then had to cough up an extra $100 for Continental airlines to accept it.... But it made it here just fine. So though we all hear nothing but horror stories of bikes being mangled in shipping, just wanted to add my pleasant story in order to hopefully help that other poor soul out there about to leave, worrying like mad. ![]() Edited by cgrout 2008-05-11 11:58 PM |

Member ![]() ![]() | ![]() Question for the men: - What underwear (if any) do you wear under your tri shorts? I was wondering if some people use speedo's or another lycra material to hold the goods in place. I can't wear the tri shorts without anything holding the goods tighter. I have been using cotton briefs without any issues, but I have always raced with a wetsuit. This is my first without a wetsuit and I am concerned with the amount of water/weight the cotton briefs will absorb coming out of the water. Thx. |

Once I hit the water no problems. (Think about the old Seinfeld episode) I wouldn't wear cottom breifs. A speedo may be ok though. Just thinking cotton may be like a sponge, not very comfy for the bike. Bryan |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm so glad to hear men suffer with similar problems that we have to deal with - bra or no bra? Does this top hold tight enough? I'm all packed and so ready to go! Just thinking back to 3 months ago when I was totally laid out with mono and couldn't get out of bed for 3 weeks, I am happy to be doing the race and am looking forward to a nice hot and humid training day for IMKY! It keeps getting cold here in Va, it's in the 50's & 60's today! |

Cotton briefs would likely cause a lot of chaffing. I had a buddy on a century that wore cotton briefs under his bike shorts and got really chaffed. Seems like a speedo or something lycra like that would glide freely would be the best choice if you don't want to go commando. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've heard some voice concerns over the wind...let me tell you, you will be very glad for that wind when you are running. It was hot as h.e. double toothpicks here over the weekend...and without the wind it would have been impossible. I did an hour fifteen min run and had to stop 2 times for 5 minutes to cool off and get a drink.... and then had to walk a few times to let my HR settle...and I *like* the heat!! It's gonna be hot!!! Can't wait

The thing that worried me more is that it is seriously windy!!! Holy crap. Just letting you know that this is how the wind has been here in Jax for a few weeks now, really crappy. You, however, are here on a pretty "cool" day. Don't get too comfy with this weather because the heat and humidity seem almost absent today. |

Member ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks for the commando tip. I just did my last 90min ride before race day changing all three of my different TRI shorts to see which one was most comfortable commando style. The Zoot won over the Orca and the TYR. See you guys and gals on Sunday! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() As this is my first Fl 70.3 I was wondering how accurate are the distances. Can anyone who has done this race before tell me? Is the swim really 1.2, ride 56 and run 13.1 or are they, as so many races are, a bit off either way? thx, FM http://www.myspace.com/fredtriguy65 |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My Garmin GPS said the ride last year was 55.48 miles which also jived with another person's Garmin on Motionbased. I can't say on the swim as the Garmin isn't water proof. Several posts from BT's suggested that the swim felt longer than 1.2 miles. Who knows for sure... As for the run. I left the Garmin on the bike so I can't say for sure. I checked Motionbased to see if there was a runner who posted there. The run distances I saw there were 13.36, 13.15, and 13.43 |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sorry to hijack this year's thread but can anyone tell me when registration normally opens up for the next year? It seems like it's not as crazy as it is for the full IM, but I'm curious if it will open up the day after or if it's normally a few months after once they regroup. |

It doesn't happen as quick as IM...a few months maybe? I think I signed up in december?? I got in just in the nick of time. You have some time. |
