Master 1792 | Subject: RE: Merry Christmas to Yourself Challenge Michelle - I totally agree with Sparkle. You need time for you, or the time you make for others doesn't offer them 100%. I still feel a little guilt when my husband puts something off for one of my workouts, be we each have our workout times and we understand that we both NEED those times. He and my son did most of their initial bonding when I was working out before work. The hub got him up and ready for baby school and dropped him off. It was great for the 2 of them to have time together without me around...Daddies definately have their own style of taking care of the kiddo. And I adored the time to myself. Hang in there, you'll feel less guilty as time goes by...b/c there is nothing to feel guilty about! About the bike: I don't know much. I ride a Specialized Dolce and they are about $800 new. Perfect for a starter bike |

Master 1915 Hamilton, Victoria | Subject: RE: Merry Christmas to Yourself Challenge Well it's been a few days since my last weigh-in and I have had a bit going on. Last week I had a kidney biopsy which saw me out of action until today. Today was my first day back on the bike - which was just a one hour 'cruise'. I had gone for a walk a couple of times but nothing demanding. Anyway, the frustrating thing is I jumped on the scales today and I am up 6lbs on last week! How does that happen? I was really careful about what I ate and although I wasn't exercising I wasn't slouching either. I don't understand how I can gain this much in such a short time. The strange thing is that my clothes are falling off me and I am getting comments from friends about how I have obviously lost weight, so this was quite a shock. I don't feel any different this week but 6lbs! Come on! How does that happen - and I don't accept 'water weight' as an excuse. Anyways, sorry for the rant, I needed to vent. I will maintain the program and hopefully the weight will come off. Summary: Last week: 285 This week: 291 Difference: +6lbs |

Extreme Veteran 416 Mercer Island, WA | Subject: RE: Merry Christmas to Yourself Challenge Is it too late for me to jump in? For a variety of reasons (medication, stress, time constraints, family issues, etc.), I have been very inconsistent in training during the past year. I went to the doctor yesterday and was up to 148 pounds from 137 in at the end of July. A year ago I weighed 125. So, my fiancee and I are starting our personal Biggest Loser tonight and I am looking to everyone here for motivation. I am hoping to lose 28-30 pounds over the next few months. |

Member 7 Camden, NJ | Subject: RE: Merry Christmas to Yourself Challenge I am entering this challenge late. I am new to this site and am going to follow through this year and what better way than with a challenge! My goal is 125 lbs. I currently weigh 180 lbs. I wnat to go to Florida and finish the Sprint in March. I am kind of scared, there is a fear on injury and the unknown that makes me just want to jump head long into this without thinking. Once I start thinking I talk myself out of things! Wish me luck and let me know the details of when to check back to give my progress. |

I find a weekly summery helps 'keep it real'. Try posting your starting weight, goal weight and weekly progress. Good luck for the sprint in Feb, and remember - Obstacles are those frightening things you see when you take your eyes off you goal! Stay focussed and you'll be fine. |

Master 1790 | Subject: RE: Merry Christmas to Yourself Challenge I personally am stuck. My big problem is the weekends. If we go away somewhere, it is so hard to find healthy, gluten-free food. And I usually end up eating potatoes, which are like instant weight-gainers for me. I have to get going and give myself a bike kick in the butt here. |

Veteran 104 greensboro, NC area | Subject: RE: Merry Christmas to Yourself Challenge Scared to weigh in for Monday. I had to fly to Dallas this week for a business training session. They had us captured in a big ballroom from 8 until 5 everyday. Even ate lunch at the training tables we all sat at. Needless to say we were prisoners of the catered breakfasts and lunches (Did I mention snacks too?). Don't get me wrong. The food was delicious and but not incredibly healthy. I tried to be good but I will be lucky if I have only gained 1 or 2 pounds from this trip! So, gotta get back on the wagon!

Regular 68 Washington County, PA | Subject: RE: Merry Christmas to Yourself Challenge Weight loss is a complete mystery to me. In a moment of weakness the other day, I went to Pizza Hut and ate 6 slices of pizza + bread sticks. The next morning I weighed in only to discover I had lost a pound. What!? Perhaps I should incorporate Pizza Hut into my weight loss program! |

Regular 68 Washington County, PA | Subject: RE: Merry Christmas to Yourself Challenge I've heard that the fit of your clothes is sometimes a better indicator of weight loss than the bathroom scale. If thats the case, then I must be moving in the right direction. Last night I had to tighten my wrist watch band! |

Expert 1202 Montana | Subject: RE: Merry Christmas to Yourself Challenge I'm jumping in, too. My goal is to be 165 by Christmas. I am at 175 right now. I am 5'10" and have been led to believe that 175 is a good weight for me, but I'm just not ready to accept that. The biggest trouble I have with weekends is hydration. Missing out on my water can mess up everything. |

I made sure to eat lots of fruit and veggies so I didn't go crazy with it but still....can you believe I was actually looking forward to pork chops! P.S. Master 1790 | Subject: RE: Merry Christmas to Yourself Challenge Look what the scale said this morning: (In case you can't see, it finally says 199.5) I've been hovering a hair above 200 for weeks, so I am so glad to have broken through! I know I only got to that weight because I did NOT pig out this weekend. Friday night I did have some wine with friends, but I didn't eat potato chips or anything like that. And yesterday we went out to eat with friends, and I did not get my usual nachos or massive amounts of potatoes. That puts *totally* within striking distance of my goal to lose 10 more pounds!!! We can do it everyone... Edited by Offthegrid 2008-10-26 10:00 AM |

Member 12 Modesto, CA | Subject: RE: Merry Christmas to Yourself Challenge Hey, I'm really late about jumping in but I think that this challenge, in conjunction with the US Marine Corps challenge, will just about guarantee success.(if I don't bail). I just don't know what my goal weight should be. Hmmm. I'm 175 now. I have seven or eight weeks until the Monday before Christmas so, how about, a goal weight of 159? I should really be 110-120 but ya' gotta start somewhere, right? Plan: At least 30 min. workout per day - five days a week I'm already signed up for the San Francisco Triathlon at Treasure Island on Nov. 9 (Brrrrr)! Less candy, more veggies Go to Wal Mart and buy a bunch of reward stickers that I can put on a progress chart so my whole family can laugh at me Good luck to all and congratulations to those who have been in this for a month already! Push-aways worked OK... 10/13 - 220.0 - Good week. Keep on going everyone.... 10/20 - 216.5 - Good week, however I am feeling tired and sluggish. Business trip this week, so lets see how I do away from home. 10/27 - 219.5 - Wrong direction for week, good workouts bad food choices. Still a slight chance of 205 by Christmas. |

Master 1726 Sacramento, California | Subject: RE: Merry Christmas to Yourself Challenge ugghh... Last week 206.2 This week 207.6 Up 1.4 I guess I can't complain because: 1) I did not behave myself this weekend. 2) I lost 3 lbs the week before and knew that my "real" weight loss is closer to a pound a week so last week monday was likely dehydration. |

Veteran 104 greensboro, NC area | Subject: RE: Merry Christmas to Yourself Challenge Last week 193.5 Today 194.5 I knew it! My business trip sabatoged me. Ok, Ok, it's mostly my fault. However, we were held hostage by training classes from 8 to 5 everyday with breafast and lunch served in the class. Not the healthiest things to eat. Well, breakfast wasn't bad but lunches were a challenge and then of course the eating out at dinner time...I had to try some good Texas food! So I am up 1 pound. It's not as bad as I thought. I really thought it would be more like 2 to 3 pounds. So I am officially back on the wagon this week. Renewed and energized. Already made it to the gym this morning by 6am and I am NOT a morning person. |
