sesh - 2008-12-29 9:25 AM I think I ate my weight in sweets over the past few days.  Looks like we're ready to get training again, though.  I actually get to start racing this weekend!  Good way to kick the new year off.
i feel ya sesh- i got my COOOOKIE on this past weekend-prob put away around two-dozen, oh well, i neveer stopped training so my bodyfat willl have to stay the same for an extra week.... What race you got this weekend? I got one also(my first one ever!!!!!) this coming sunday, January 4th,2009. Its a tri-new-year race, so itll be newbs like me who will also seriously mess the transition up hehe

That's awesome you have a tri so early in the season.  What's it like?  Pool swim?  I'm assuming you get to bike and run outdoors in Florida still.

I'm doing the Mississippi Blues Half Marathon.  Last year they took a half marathon that was run on the Natchez Trace, moved it to downtown Jackson, got some big sponsors, and added prize money and a BQ eligible full marathon course to go with the half.  Participation went from 250 to 1500.  This year they have 3000 open slots and it's almost sold out.  There is music on the course, it starts and finishes in a revitalized arts district, and there is some damn good pizza from a local place and beer at the finish line along with a blues concert.

Next year, I'm going for the full

damn that sounds awesome!!!!!! have a few extra slices and brews for us!! Actually the race im doing is a lake swim-only 400M, try not to get killed by alligators, then a 10 mile bike ride looping twice, and a 5K to finish. itll be a good first one for me, and im hoping that since ive been training i hopefully will finish top 10 in the under-39 cateogry(theres only four cats-below 39 and above, male and female) but its just to get my "race" feet. I do bike and run outside when i can, but sometimes i gotta use the staionary at the gym or the trainer if its too dark-wife doesn't want me getting killed-and since im not training for an IM yet, i give in. ill post a short recap for the group when i get done on sunday. just treating it as an extended training day on my plan.

Are you sure that alligators are a bad thing...it seems to me that they would motivate athletes to swim their fastest.

Heh... for some reason, "Gators don't like to be around humans" just doesn't really fly with my wife either.  They especially wouldn't like to be around a few hundred humans.  She still gets scared for me, though.

I saw that...it is perfectly logical reasoning. I just can't understand why your wife doesn't see it that way.

Besides-the odds of a gator getting involved in a triathlon are about as high as piranhas attacking...and the whole piranha threat to humans is mostly bark- they very rarely bite humans.  Hey-if you did get attacked you would have some awesome stories and great scars to back them up.  Pirahna scars are awesome!  I would much prefer to be mauled by a pirahna(or several) than by a dog.

very true. Thats why i never worry, plus if the thing is gonna attack me-its gonna attack me. You enter the food chain when you enter a lake(in florida) or ocean. people don't understand that. Actually, funny story, my dad when he was scuba diving years back in Bonair(carribean-i believe) he had an ENTIRE school of pirhana follow him for about 1 mile, he said it was pretty cool but concering, he got some real nice pics of them tho.

Another random piranha story:

When Katrina was bearing down on the MS/LA border on the coast, rumor has it that the Aquarium in New Orleans actually zapped the piranha tank and killed them.  They were able to save things like the sea turtles, the white gator, and the penguins, but most of the fish died when power was lost for so long that they couldn't pump oxygen into the water.  Supposedly, they zapped the piranha ahead of time just in case the building took a catostrophic hit and they were released into the river basin.  No idea if that's true or not.

I have a new avatar! Laughing

We were reminiscing in Nibbs about the Little Mr and Little Miss book series and decided that the characters would make great avatars.  I wasn't ready to give up my last avatar so I compromised and edited in Little Miss Chatterbox.

Anyone have special plans for New Years Eve/Day?

Hope everyone had a great Christmas.  I am also keeping it low key for New Years and will probably try to make a run on New Year's Day, if my knee gets better (I think I twisted it loading up all of our luggage for our trip to visit our family).

I completed day 2 of the 100 Pushup Challenge today (with my kids cheering me on) and I am suprisingly not that sore right now.  I can feel it, which is good, but it is not that bad.

Hope everyone had a great 2008.  I myself am looking forward to an injury free 2009 so that I can actually run a race or two.

 Eric

We are (hopefully) having a quiet one this year, which I'm happy about.

I will go for a run on New Year's Day too.

By the way Sesh, great work on the 10 hours of pushups on Saturday!  That must have been quite a workout Laughing.

Happy New Year!

I am probably the only one awake this early, but I have an awful cold and I was sleeping at 9 last night.  I've spent most of the last few days in bed or on the couch.  I can't seem to kick this thing.  Oh well, time to get back to life cold or no cold.

Should be a quiet day today.  My only workout will be the initial test for the push-ups challenge.  Since I haven't been out of the house for two days, a walk might be nice.

I hope you all have a great day today, and aren't suffering too badly if you were partying last night.

Happy New Year Everyone!

I did my initial push up test and added in the sit up test.  I was level 3 for the pushups (barely - eeked out 16) but excellent w/ the situps (woo hoo - 90).  So my plan is to do a weekend day and T/Th.

I hope everyone has recovered from the holidays and New Year's Eve.  We had friends over and had a low key evening.  My son made it until midnight w/ one of his friends.  He was out as soon as his head hit the pillow though.  My husband and I got in a 5 mile tempo run to start the new year on the right foot.  Less than 3 weeks til I start my half ironman plan and only 4 days until I head back to the pool for Master's practice.  :-(

For my initial push-up test I only got 8!  I'm giving myself a bit of a break because I'm sick, but I have a lot of work to do.  Oh well, it gives me something to work on for awhile.  I start the program Monday.  I've got my whole family doing it, even my 5-year-old!  (He does the knees down version.)

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!

Well, I ended up having a really good time a tthat party i was being dragged too, and because i had such a good time, i took yesterday off with my "good time" still hanging around i.e. hangover.
Sat on couch, watched tv, ate chinese food-life was good.
Was right back at it today with a nice hour swim this morning.
I am giving myself a self-taper for my race on Sunday so im not trying to push too too hard on my training from this past wednesday till sunday-im getting the minutes in but just going "softer" than i normally do, might leave the run i skipped yesterday out all together.
Anywhooo, it was good to go back today and i got a 2 hour bike this afternoon i may turn into a 1.5 hour leisurly bikeride around town.
gotta get ready for sunday, sunday, sunday!!!
