IMO, the more important aspect is not the detergent you use, but the fact of whether or not you use a dryer and or fabric softener sheets.  They will damage the wicking aspect faster than anything else I know of.

So this is turning into a Home Ec thread...

Yes, before I knew about that, I ruined a lot of shirts. I see that there is a Tide with Downy in it.  is it just the fabric softener sheets that wreck the wicking ability or would a liquid fabric softener in the washing machine accomplish the same?

I am very bad at these things.

 I think any fabric softener.

NUGs!  That made me chuckle!

I managed to get in an outdoors ride and got all muddy since it rained last night.  Now, I am NOT complaining ~ there's something about biking/running and sloshing thru the puddles and getting dirty...it makes it more fun!   I have no clue what the distance was since my training plan called for time (40 min) so I didn't map out an actual route.  My hubby is off today so I'm hoping I can talk him into going to the pool with me and videotaping me ~ if not today then hopefully sometime this weekend.

Oh FUN mud can be a lot of fun...as long as its not the first time you are wearing a new fairly expensive technical shirt (that happened to me this summer)  I was having a great time in the puddles until I realized what my back must look like   Thank goodness for Tide with bleach

BwaaaaHaaaaaaHaaaaaaa!  That is exactly what happened...I took off my WHITE underarmour shirt to find mud all over but like you said, thank goodness for bleach!

Just ran 3.1 miles and did my 145 crunches...bike ride and a swim tomorrow I hope ( I really need to get to the pool, but am kind of dreading it as I haven't been in many months because I have been focused on learning how to run)

Yes I know that sounds counterintuitive most people know how to run and need to learn how to swim, but I swam competitively for 10 years and up until a year ago thought of running as a form of punishment.

But that does not make the prospect of going back to the pool any less scary.  I know for my husband that good running fitness does not translate into good swimming fitness, but what I don't know is if that is because the two aren't related or if it is because he is not an effcient swimmer.  I am hopping that it is the latter.  In that case I should be good to go, because I just need to tune up my form and hopefully all of the riding and running that I have been doing will make the aerobic part easier, but I am skeptical that this is true and fear that this trip to the pool will be humbling.  End Rant continue with your regularly scheduled weekend!

The forum is pretty quiet today, but we can change that. My training for a half called for a 3 mile run today, so I did a short bike trainer ride  and followed up with the run.  The "noodle leg" sensation gave me trouble last year, but I guess that's pretty common. Don't know if that ever completely goes away.

I did nothing today and have no excuse.  It was gloomy outside so I spent the day inside with my Mom.  Also trying to prove to her that I can spend a day without the computer (very hard by the way).

I'm not lazy, really, just one of those days.

Tomorrow will be better.  I might try and outside ride if I can sneak my husband's windstopper riding gloves out.  Otherwise I'll do another walk with maybe a little running in it.

Hope everyone's having a good weekend.

Katie ~ That is awesome that you have a swimming background to fall back on.  I am still talking myself into getting that dang purple bar in my graph but weather and life just have not been cooperating with the outdoor pool hours!

Lara ~ I have to agree that a day without the computer is very hard!  My hubby calls me his little internet junky but it's only because once I get on at night I am on forever trying to read/update/search for all the things I thought about during the day.  Plus, I have to catch up on all my BT challenge forums ~ you know...the important things!!

32F, foggy, wet (slightly icy from some freezing rain last night) so not good for riding.  Instead I headed down to the Riverside trail for a walk/run.  It's a paved multi-purpose trail that mostly goes through a park.  The trail was wet and there was only ice in a couple of spots where there were pools of water so it was very do-able.

I can start by saying that my lungs are still not back to normal.  I have a bit of gunk still trying to get out of them and my sinuses.  So I didn't think I was gonna be able to do much running.  But once I warmed up and started going I felt surprisingly good.  So I kept going.  Ended up with 3 mi of mostly running (walked up the hills).  My HR was higher than normal.  I might hurt a little tomorrow but ibuprofen should take care of it.

So I think I'll return to the training plan at least for the times.  The intensity of workouts will still be determined by my HR and how it feels.

 Have a good one.

Well, I survived another Scouting weekend and actually got in a great workout with it.  It was way more than I expected since I plotted the route on my map maker. The hills were killer.  Good practice though I guess.  Tomorrow I have a double run planned along with a good long swim. Good to see everybody keeping busy this weekend.  Keep it up.Laughing

Keep those workout reports coming in.....good to see.  I'm back from a long ski day.  Did the crash and burn thing on a steep.  I'm feeling it today but did manage to get some trainer time in....Cry  Spring will be here soon, right?

John ~ can you believe I actually miss snow and skiing?  The grass is always greener, isn't it?!

Way to push it this weekend, everyone!

Guess what I did today?  Yup, I was in the pool. Can you believe it?  My hubby videotaped me and we just downloaded it to our computer...let's just say it's not pretty but I expected that.  Now I just need to keep going!   On that note, I have a question about training plans.  I am looking at starting a 12ish week tri focused training schedule mid Feb but all the training plans I've found start all 3 events out at a total beginners pace.  Does anyone have a suggestion since swimming is the only event that I'm truly a novice?  Is there a specific plan that would be more suited for where I am currently?  FYI...I just really do soooo much better when I have an actual plan to follow!

I've pretty much abandoned the training plan that I picked a few weeks ago, so I don't think that I'd be much help in that area.  Changed my expectations/goals of what I was really able to do in a workout. Maybe one of the others may have better advice.  Good luck.

I had the same thing when I started my current plan.  I just kept working at my level and eventually the plan caught up to me.  Not sure if it was the right way to do it but it felt better that way.  I also noticed that even though the times were less than I was able, there were sometimes drills or intervals or such that made it harder than I would have done on my own.

This sport can be about mental flexibility and changing on the fly.  Don't be afraid to make changes when you deem appropriate.  Just try to do something almost EVERY day...stay consistent.

The better you train, the luckier you'll get at race time

Which pointed out to me that I am NOT supposed to be using dryer sheets on some of my work out stuff!

I'm here now.  I was upgrading the OS on the computers today so they've been off & on.

I finally got in the pool today.  I think it's been a month or so.  My limiting factor here is just scheduling.  Most of the time I can only go on days my husband is off since there's no childcare.  But since my Mom's with us this month I can go more often.

I did a slow & easy 1350 yards.  It didn't feel good though.  I felt out of sync, awkward, jerky.  And the lady I was sharing the lane with couldn't seem to stay on her side.  We never collided but did brush a couple of times.  Anyway, I hoping Wednesday's swim is better.

Tomorrow's agenda is weights & ride.

Good job on the swim! I had a bizarre experience the other day with a guy who couldn't seem to stay on his side of the lane either...ick.
