Sorry, I meant that for Gator, oops.

Good luck with your 5k.  I have a 4 miler on Sunday but it more of a beer run than a race.

Sounds like your 1/2 was a lot of fun Gator, how are you feeling today?

Good luck with the 5K Scout!

I did a yoga DVD last night (used to do Yoga fairly regulary, but haven't had time for about 4 months)  Boy did it feel awesome.  I didn't realize how tight my legs had gotten.

Love that you fit in Yoga! Always good for stretching the muscles.

Gator, congrats on completing the half.

Matt- good luck on your 5k this weekend. And Jo- I think a beer run sounds fantastic!

My computer is officially dead; until I get a new one, I have very limited access on Mike's when he is home.

I have hurt my knee- as much as I hound all of you about stretching, and not going too hard, I should have taken my own advice. I stupidly decided to do a 1 mile time trial on the Dreadmill, then got in the pool and did a bunch of kick drills. Then started in on a 5x200 free, timing each 200, and in the 4th lap of my second 200 I pushed off the wall and my left knee exploded. Lots of icing, lots of Ibuprofen, lots of stretching, and now lots of praying. I did an easy bike today but I am very upset with myself. I had several light weeks of training, due to kiddo illness and my own illness and vacation, and I feel like I should have KNOWN better. What makes me even more angry is that the weather is breaking and we are so close to outdoor training time...

Anne, take care of that knee.  Take some rest, lots of ice and ibuprofen.

Turns out my run on Sunday is turning out to be a run for beer and not a run with beer-$hit!  I am so not ready for a race.  I just wanted to have a fun run but all my peeps were just giving me lip service on the forum and they are all going for PR's.  What the H-E-L-L?   I would never have done this if I thought it was going to be intense.

Yoga is good however it screwed me up 2 weeks ago.  I am just recovering this week.  My hamstrings were so tight after all of the downward dogs that I couldn't stretch enough to loosen them.  Overstretching can be bad also.  Be careful!

Oh Anne, I'm so sorry to hear about your knee.  I hope it heals quickly.  I know how easy it is to just think I can jump right back in there.   In my mind I'm the same as I was at 25, unfortunately my body doesn't agree.

Jo thanks for the advice on yoga and overstretching.  I actually had an issue with my ankle last year and wondered if I could possibly be pushing too hard to do the down dogs, I really wanted to get my feet to the floor like those people in the video or my instructor.  When my ankle swelled up last year my doctor said that I had a small bone spur at the front of my foot that could have pinched the tendon that went across there.  (The down dog position would put my foot in the perfect spot to lean it forward enough to do that)  It wasn't really painful or anything just swollen.  That's when I cut back...and when I did it again the other day I decided to not worry about how far my feet went to the ground, just relax and enjoy the feeling of where it's comfortable.

good advice Jo and Ginny on yoga, and thanks for cautioning us all on the overstretching.

I am avoiding running until Sunday; that should give my knee some time out. Lots of stretching, lots of ice.

We are going to have great weather this weekend- hope it is good for everyone else, too!

Matt and Jo, let us know how your runs go. Jo, go ahead and make it fun. And keep us posted on the WW; I lost my ten and then got out. Too pricey for me to pay for an additional 6 weeks to do maintenance and become a lifetime member. All the training is maintenance enough for me.

Woo hoo!  New PR by almost 2 minutes!  The course was through the center of town in our little borough here in West Chester.  Two loops around a mostly flat course.  There are some inclines and declines, but nothing that I would call a hill.  I haven't looked at the splits on my garmin yet, but the clock at the mid way point was at 12 minutes, so I think that my pace was fairly steady the whole time.  I really wanted to break 25 minutes, and I think I cost myself some time at the end.  I started my kick a little too soon and had to stop and dry-heave about 100 yards short of the finish line.  Oh well...still a PR by 1:54!

After the race, I ran another 4 miles so that today would be a "long run" day.  All in all it was a great race for me, I got my miles in and a really cool new t-shirt!

Matt-way to go with a new PR!!!!  Awesome job and to still have enough left in you to grab another 4 miles, you rock!

I had the corktown 4 miler and had no goal except to finish and not walk.  I haven't run that distance since my Thanksgiving 10k.  I've been a very bad running girl.  My goal was to have fun and NOT let my competitive devil out (no putting myself down for my time, I'm good at finishing a race and then talking myself down about how bad I did).  My neighbor and I ran together the entire race.  It rocked to run with someone.  We had a blast.  Quite a few of our BT'ers ran as partners, a few went for their PR alone.  We all had personal goals.  We finished in 45 minutes, chip time.  Words of wisdom:  beer in a water bottle not too good, tends to froth out the top.

Jo- it sounds like your 4miler was fun. And on the beer- duly noted.

Last week was my big week of training for that month, so this week is my recovery week and boy does my body need it. The run yesterday was rough and my knee is not happy.

I feel like I was really getting down on myself about my training this past month- first the kids got sick, then we had vacation....it just seemed like I got off track. But last week made me feel better- even with the knee injury.

I swam Saturday morning with a pool full of guys doing a Birthday Swim. They get together once a month and celebrate someone's birhtday and swim one lap (50 yards or meters) for each year. Each 50 was a sprint. I asked one of the guys why they were sprinting, and not going slower, and I guess it boils down to this- boys are competitive. Cool idea; I just do not have enough friends in the area to do something like that. But maybe some of you guys do!

Great job on the race Matt, you are speedy!

Jo, Beer in a water bottle, hmmm...never thought of that   Should have carbs if nothing else right?  Only problem is I hate to carry a bottle with me.  Got to get used to that before the half.

All of you guys racing is making me jealous, might have to see if I can get a 10K in before May.  Might be a good tune up before the half.  I did get my long run in for the week yesterday.  (On the last day of my training week, Monday - Sunday)  Supposed to normally do them on Tuesdays, but didn't happen this past week, I'm debating now on moving my long run this Tuesday back some just because I want to have some recovery time before doing another long run.   9 miles I felt fine went into 10th mile thinking I could go on forever, by the end of 10 I was like when will this be done!  But it is a distance PR for me, and a weekly mileage PR also.  Hoping to get an 11 miler in this week.  If the great weather continues I definitely should be ready for the half in about 6 weeks.

Whoops, I seem to always forgot to come check the group.  Sorry!  I put up a race report (don't know how to insert a link for it) for those that want more details.  My first half was so much fun and I'm just happy I finished. Congrats to everyone who has been racing and good luck to those that have one coming up!

Hey - If anyone is looking for something to watch while on a trainer, here's a link to a site that has older sporting events - like triathlons - available as streaming video.  I was able to use orbit downloader (google it - it's a great freeware tool!) to download the video and burn it to DVD.  I've downloaded all of the Kona Tris from 2004-2008.  Just click on the select sport button and pick tri....

Scubagrl, I didn't like carrying a water bottle either until I went to a race and they had no water until mile 2.5 on the 5k run of a sprint tri. I bought a nathan handheld and love it. I've tried running with fuel belt and found that annoying but I used it for my marathon. I don't go anywhere without my nathan handheld. It rocks! I use it for ALL of my runs, even 2 milers.

Thanks for the info and review on the waterbottle, Jo!

I'm toying with the idea of doing an Oly in August instead of a second sprint. Thoughts? I'm much better at endurance than speed and feel like the sprint was a nice place to start, but I should be going faster instead of just wanting to increased distance.

I love recovery weeks!!!!

I'm going to go check out that water bottle for sure.  I know I need to get used to carrying something, I've been struggling with what to do even on long runs.  Luckily it's not extremely warm yet so I haven't really had to deal with too much, just drink before and after, but I know that's not going to work much longer.

Still need to look for those new goggles too, I think a trip to Dick's is in order tonight.

Question about this site:

Can someone point me to an explanation of the different colors on my monthly calendar?  I know that when I have some type of exercise it turns a peach color, but some are darker, and one is yellow.

Okay- this is not official, as I am certain there is an official explanation somewhere, but here you go:

You do any of the 3 tri areas of exercise and record it under swim, bike, run and it turns the dark color. You do any form of exercise and record it under other, and it is the light color (this is why you see people do Peach Challenges, setting their goal to have a peach square each day meaning they have done some type of exercise). Yellow means all you did was blog/write in the comments; white means nothing is recorded for that day. And a red line around the box means you are sick/injured and recorded it (very important to track and a handy way to do so).

Just checkin' in.

Work schedule is a mess and I've been trying TOO hard to get my motor-bike going instead of my pedal-bike.

Matt, Nice job on the PR.

Jo, Anytime something mentions 'beer', my hearts skips a beat.  I (heart) beer.

Anne, Watch the knee.

Ginny, Hope your goggle search ends well.

Good Luck to all and stay healthy.
