LazyMarathoner - 2009-03-05 9:00 AM Morning. Ah, sleeping in until 7 was absolute bliss. I could get used to that, but better not. I have a big swim tonight, a little over 3,000. That will be my peach for the day!

What's the setup - yards or meters?

Either way, 3000 is a BIG swim! (At least, it is for me.) Very impressive.

You'll be more impressed as we swim the 4400 yards in Sept.

Define "we."

Lazy and I are doing IM Moo - her 1st time and my 2nd.

Cool! I think you should talk Beth into going with you.

Watcha mean?

She can swim, and bike and run. So I think she should join in on the masochism fun.

I was reading into the question some so needed the clarification.

Almost all the Ironman venues sellout on registration day.  Moo (WI) does for sure.  What helps is if you volunteer for the race, you can register ahead of all the other peeps waiting in line.  That year's participants can signup the day before the race, and if you helped volunteer that registration day, you can register, too, but not until after registration closes (which I did).  (Confused yet )

wait, can you explain it one more time -- a little slower -- how it works for volunteers?

... wait, can you explain it one more time -- a little slower -- how it works for volunteers?

If you are a volunteer Ironman Wisconsin 2009 (this year), then, if you wish to sign up for the following year's race:
1). Provide your name to your volunteer supervisor that you will be signing up for the following year's race.
2). That supervisor will provide the list to whoever is in charge of registration signup.
3). Arrive early on the day of registration (Mon. Sept. 14), AND wear your volunteer shirt (it helps).
4). Volunteers that are registering for the race are allowed to the front of the line and allowed in first to signup.

I volunteered last year.  I also volunteered to assist with the 2009 registration that was held the Sat. morning before the Sun. race.  Since I volunteered that Sat. morning, I also was allowed to signup that Sat. morn but after all the 2008 participants that were racing the next day got to sign up.

Make sense?

Offthegrid - 2009-03-05 2:53 PM I'm gonna be a bike handler at IMLP

That's a great job to have - bike handling.  Touchy touchy feely feely those magnificent bikes!

I volunteered for about 5 different things last year at Moo, and bike handling was one of them.  I've volunteered for about 3 years before doing IM Moo 2007.  I got to see both sides of the life, and enjoyed it all!

THE BEST TIME I EVER HAVE!!

EDITED UPDATE:  Oh, yeah, I did both bike handing off and receiving.  Great time.

You will have A GREAT DAY!  It's an unbelievable experience, but, then again, I really get into those kinds of things.  Some people are "blah" and are "there", and then there's the people that get you pumped.  I'm one of the latter.

Well reading the volunteer descriptions just made a hard decision easy for me...You see I was feeling torn between volunteering in an area that uses my medical training (I am a doctor for those who do not know) or something that would get me "closer" to the race...Well they require a Wisconsin Medical Lic. and I am licensed in the state of Illinois...So no medical duties for me    I am kind of happy about that

It is *tough* to be a bike handler at Lake PLacid! I've tried to get it for three years.

I volunteered at a run aid station for two years. And I accidentally hit Simon Lessig on my maiden volunteering mission! I felt so horrible! But he won.

oh, Katie, forgot to mention ... you may also have two trigger points in the muscle that runs on the inside of your foot, one near the heel and one kinda of in the middle of the arch. (I'm sure I sound dumb because you probably know what that muscle is called.) The one on my left foot doesn't really, but the right foot has two TPs there that I have been working on. Ouchie!

There is a chance that I will be around for IMWI.  I am hoping to do the lk geneva race on september 12.  If it works out I will be in nearby WI and available on the big day.
