Quiet indeed.  I swung through logs today and it seems that there's a few people who haven't logged in in quite some time.

It's good to hear from you guys. I'm still here, but I'm actually going away for a little while. I'm going on vacation to an internet-free location for a week, and then on a business trip for a few dates. I'll be back around June 4th.

But you should all be proud of me. I have been looking into fitness while on both trips and already called the YMCA down the street from my hotel during the business portion to ensure I'll have a pass. Woot!

Enjoy your vacation!  Way to scope out the fitness options ahead of time!

On a similar note, I leave for Germany on business tomorrow.  I'm not sure what my workout options will be.  I'm sure I can still run, but biking and swimming are up in the air.  The really fun part is that I have a race the day after I get back.  Jet lagged racing!  Woohoo!

I'm not sure what my internet access will be like either.  Hopefully I won't have to leave you all hanging for a week, but that may be the case.  Continue to post and ask questions and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

I am still here too. Went jogging 10K this morning before work. Wouououou, I can't remember the last time I did that.....
Will go for a swim at lunch. I am planning a long bike ride this weekend or maybe 2. No, no Neal, not the kind of rides you are doing, a little shorter....

Nicki and Neal, good trip for both of you.

I've been having some great workouts.  This is my "peak" training week before I start tapering for the June 6 event.  I am nervous and excited about my first triathlon!

AND... DRUM ROLL...I just won a mountain bike. Yeah!  It was our Mayor's Fitness Challenge:  ninety days of who can lose the most weight, body fat %, inches, etc.  And I WON the grand prize, so I'm feeling pretty good about that! :D    (I lost 11 pounds, 3.5% body fat and about 5 inches off my waist, plus inches off chest, legs, arms, hips)

So not only did I get the bike, but also a one-year free pass to our City Rec Center, worth $360.
Cool, huh?  Even better, the mayor wants to keep doing this and also he and I talked about more bike lanes and promoting bike-to-work week.  A bit of advocacy is always a good thing...

Congrats on the bike and the pass to the rec center!  That's some great progress you've made too.

First tri in 2 weeks, that's exciting!  Hope your training and taper goes well.  Let me know if you have any questions.  I can't wait to hear how it goes!

Well, my flight leaves in a few hours.  Everyone have a great weekend and week of training.  Keep up the good work.  I'll check in if I can.  If not I'll catch up next Saturday.

Later!

All right folks - I'm in need of a helping hand...
I'm really struggling with motivation.  I feel heavy, slow and, well, like I have a complete lack of inertia. It's odd because I weigh less than when I started training 3 months ago, the weather is nicer (I started to run - 30 seconds at a time in icy streets in negative 19 degrees weather - FREEZING!!!), and I have friends rooting me on. And other stuff in life is going well also - hubby and i just celebrated 10 years! I really don't know what's up.  It's like I have to fight against myself to get moving.  I even feel angst to think of training next week. I don't want to.  And yet I do.  I want to want to, and I want to push myself. Geesh. I do need help. Any idea of what I am talking about here????

I know the feeling if you need time off take a few days and don't feel bad about it. Just enjoy and relax. Just do not let the break turn into 3 weeks or a month, just take some time regroup and then go at it. Don't sweat it everyone goes through it, I have yet to go through it in my tri training but have experienced it in powerlifting and wrestling and know it will come in my tri training but I will take time off and feel good about it, take the time you deserve it. keep it a s short as you can, refocus and drive on.

Short swim in this morning worked on stroke and left side breathing. Legs are tired so I am going to not do anything else today. My daughter has a big soccer tournament out of town this weekend but I will squeeze what I can in hope to do a long bike tomorrow if the weather holds out

Got back from a business trip late last night. Training is going well. Managed to run and bike Wednesday and I had a swim today. Will focus more on running and biking next week for my duathlon next weekend.

Hi guys!  I hope everyone had a great week.  I got back from Germany and am now working on unpacking and packing for tomorrow's sprint tri.  I will try and catch up afterwards!

How was the Sprint?

I ran 7 k for the first time! (okay, I took walk breaks... several of them) but it felt great.  My right hamstring is really sore and tight, and I was totally tired the whole day - even though I went so slowly.  I hope to run again tomorrow for 3k.

QUESTION:
Is it okay to keep increasing my training (I'm following a really conservative run plan) even though it makes me feel so pooped? Should I be feeling better energy wise? I've been training now for 5 months, and have lost 15 lbs - but still find it hard to muster energy throughout the day... any thoughts

This is normal.  Sometimes its easy to get stuck on a schedule and just wear yourself down.  It's okay to take a few days to relax and regroup.  Those few days won't hurt you in the long run.  Do something you enjoy besides the training and in a few days its likely that the motivation will return.

This usually happens to me a couple of times a year.  I like to sit back and remember just why I am doing this.  I'll take a couple of days off and then when I do get the motivation to workout I go and do it not according to some plan or timing myself or anything like that.  I'll go and try to remember why I enjoy doing it and that is usually enough to get me back on track.

That's probably a sign that your body needs to recover a little bit.  Is your plan incorporating a recovery week, with reduced volume every 3-4 weeks?
