brick94513 - 2009-12-09 11:39 AM How is everyone doing with their goals as the weather turns sour on us?  I know the cold, well cold for me, weather as definately affected my motivation adversely.   I'm trying to push myself out the door right now, but I'm quite warm sitting here on the couch with my dog at my feet.

This cold weather is definately a factor.  I had to make myself swim yesterday, but got out extra early so I would have time for a hot shower...priorities!!

Yep it was hard for me too, Sunday it was 26F when I ran, but for us in MS we get the frigid temps here and there. Unfortunately that doesn't go the same for the rain, cold rain for days, for me that's worse than freezing temps alone. But I adjusted and did a gym workout on Monday with a bit of TM and track running. Here's the real kicker today it is sunny, 70 with hardly any humidity?!

Got in 14.6 miles today, it was a perfect run and my longest ever! I am getting much better with pace so I have nice LSD runs and can get in the distance. My friend Ginny (she's Boston bound) met me for the second half of my run, she needed a slow easy run. Her slow easy is my LSD pace so occasionally she'll switch up her routine to get in a run with me. Having her support has been immeasurable in my growth as a runner. I love my running friends. They are so willing to take time to run with me, be supportive, and offer tidbits of great training advice. It made the toughest miles of today's run much more bearable. I am so blessed!

Great job! 14.6 miles is a looong run... It's awesome having friends who can join in for bits and pieces, makes the run so much better. Thanks for being so positive in your posts too! It really makes me want to grab a friend and get out there.

Congrats on breaking the 5k mark! That's exciting.

And, I'm sending this quote to my friends. It's hilarious. Laughing
"Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings."

Me too! I got a long run in for me. I ran 10K this morning since I didn't get to run this past Sunday Joe Kleinerman 10K race due to a oncoming cold that I successfully fought off. It's the longest I've run in over 20 years. Cheers Frosties!

Wow, that's great.  Congatulations It's very nice to see people out there pushing themselves!

Jen, as always, nice run.  You're so lucky to have some nice weather today.

I finally got off my butt and did a small psuedo-brick session today.  It took me about 15 minutes to transition since my feet and hands were numb from the ride.  So, I just took my time in the nice warm house, changing clothes, and willing myself to get out there and run.  For God sakes, I live in an area of pretty mild temperatures, but this morning there was ice all over the place.  Crazy storm.  I really feel for Steve (Baowolf) to the North of me where it is really cold!

Oh, btw, a little milestone for me today too:  first ride ever on a tri bike.  I was a little unsteady at first, but caught on.  Rode in and out of aero position only for a short amount of time.

To this point, all my experience-mileage has been on mountain bikes.  This year was my first doing Xterra triathlons.  While I still plan to do Xterra and endurance mountain bike races, I wanted to make the transition to traditional triathlons so I can do the longer distances (HIM,IM).

Have mostly runs scheduled for the month and getting them done during midday at work so I can avoid the early morning and late evening colder times of the day.

Great run! How'd you come up with 14.6 miles to finish at? I'd have to keep going until something like 14.75 or 15, or have stopped at 14.5.

Nice runs folks.

I got in a recovery slow paced 6 mile run today.  Most of my weekday runs are during lunch.  I can go 60 to 90 minutes with my schedule, so keep weekday runs at 10 miles or less typically.  That way I get the best temps and daylight.  Otherwise it is treadmill land like lastnight.  As a comparison, it was -6F this am and got all the way up to 24F for my noon run, nice and snuggly warm.  Not quite cold enough to wear my my warm hat.

Roads are still icy, snowy and bare depending on where you are.

I could make up some exotic explanation but 14.6 was where my truck was parked and I was pretty tired by then!

Congrats on the milestone!  It's like entering a whole new world.  I started out as a mountain biker, but now my real love is road riding.  They'd have to pry Bianca out of my cold, dead hands!

O.k.  Second core session down - 11 to go!  I got off to a late start for the challenge, at least as far as core is concerned, so I'm going to have to make up for lost time.  Oh well.  Maybe I'll have abs of steel by the end of the month - oh, if only it were that easy!

Todd I'm running in Las Vegas this week. Mornings have been brisk but not too bad with two top layers an ear band and light gloves.

Hi everyone!  sorry I have been delinquent from the forum, but I am training.......it is just such a busy time of year.

I have a track workout scheduled today, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 800, 400, 200 at LT, ugh!  I am trying to talk myself into it...  It just seems too coldSurprised

Hope everyone is doing well, training hard, and staying injury free.

Good morning team!  What's everyone have planned for the day?

It looks like the weather will warm a little here, but forecasted for three days of rain Cry  I don't mind running in the rain, but just forgot about the bike.  I think I'm going to take the day off  though and get some Christmas decorating done around the house; maybe address some other projects that I've been neglecting too.  Happy wife means happy husband!

The month seems to be moving fast.  I feel like I'm always just a little behind in my goals this month.

Hi Frosties,
Still teetering on the migraine. It was 3 degrees Fahrenheit when I left the house this morning, but tomorrow we should hit a plateau of 30s for the next few days which hopefully will allow me to snap out of it. I'm at work today though, so I guess that's a small victory. If this lifts enough, I'll go to swimming tonight. If not, then I'll hit it during the plateau of 30s.

Go force go!
