Hey folks,
I'm going to be out of touch for a couple weeks.  I've been selected for a jury on a criminal case that could last 2 weeks or more.  We're not sequestered, but the trial is in Philadelphia which is an hour and a half away.  Workouts will be spotty at best and I don't know how much time I'll have to jump online.  Keep up the training and I'll catch up with you all soon.
Bill

Good luck Bill.  We'll be here when you get back.  Do what you can and don't feel bad about it.

Stay impartial!  I was on a super high profile case up here a long time ago - it's amazing and a little horrifying to see the inner workings of the American criminal justice system.  Not much like TV court room dramas, at least the case I was on was not.

We'll wait for a recap of the trial when you get back Bill. Truly - the judicial system is nothing like it appears on T.V.

Poked around a bit for another couple of events earlier in the season...now I'm thinking I might do a half marathon in May (tied to a trip to DC to visit my sister)...do I have enough time to be ready for it? The longest I have ever run is about 7 miles. Would training for a half hurt my normal Olympic training (for later in the summer)?

yes - I loved getting the USAT sticker/shwag...now to decide which car to put it on - the minivan just to tweak people or the crappy car that won't pass inspection next year.

How many weeks is the Oly plan you are going to follow?  I think if there's enough weeks and the half isn't in the way of the training, why not?  That should give you something like 16+ weeks until Lobsterman, which sounds like plenty.  It may not be ideal if training for a HM lowers the biking too much, but you're getting in a tremendous amount of training right now so I think you'd be ready.

One concern would be that running is the hardest on your body and a half requires a fair amount of mileage, so be sure to build it up slowly.  Injuries are the enemy!

Plenty of time. 7 to 13.1 is not that big of a jump, it all depends on how fast you want to be.

Oh, and a bit of good news... the judge told us today that closing arguements could be done by lunch tomorrow.  Only 2 more witnesses to go!  So this may end up being a 1 week trial instead of two.  YEAH!  It's been interesting to say the least.  But I did get a 5k in on the treadmill this morning.  Thanks for all the kind words... Check back in soon!

A few weeks in to the group - I've enjoyed it! Nice to be able to make a few friends on the site and watch everyone's training. One thing I've liked to see is the swimming distances done by some of you and the running pace by others! Definitely inspiring! And Aaron, thanks for the articles you post throughout the week. good to read.

I'm waiting for it to warm up a bit before I head out for a run. We are visiting my wife's family and it's 26* and foggy right now. Not really what I like to run in!

hope you guys have a good weekend

26!!!!  That's a heat wave!  Actually, it's going to be 40 here in NH today.  I can't wait - I'll be in shorts and a t-shirt.

I agree that's it's been great to bounce things off others and read how dedicated everyone is in their logs.  Let's me know I have a long way to go, but I look forward to this journey and it's great to see other "normal" people are doing it.  And I can't wait to "watch" some of the races you guys run this year.

And of course Aaron, it's  great to have someone who's done this to really moderate, and I loved those nutrition and other links.

hahah! I guess I should keep it in context! ha, but that's an arctic blast for me! it is now 30* and foggy. still cold now I really know I wouldn't survive the winters you guys have! this week, numerous people ask "how did your face get so tan?" my reply - I went on a 3 hour bike ride on Saturday!

I remember that from living in ABQ - much easier to get color when you are that much closer to the sun. All us here in the frozen north start to take on the hue of veal right about now.

Thanks to all for the inspires - I am enjoying this quite a bit. It has given me hope that I won't always be in the back of the pack...and it makes me feel better about the amount I am doing. The links to articles from Aaron is also really appreciated.

So - what do you all have in store this weekend? I've got a long run left today (already did Week 11 Q3 of Jorge's program and some weight lifting) and a LONG ride tomorrow. Not supposed to snow until tomorrow night, so I might try to ride outside.

Have a great one!

With the amazing NE weather today, I debated an outdoor ride, but opted for my planned long run.  Wow is all I can say!  I think I hit the runner's high today.

After a nice extended warm-up with my wife, I went the next 8 miles at an 8:30 pace, which is significantly faster than I've ever gone on my long run!  I'm not sure what happened, since I wasn't planning to push too hard and didn't even feel like I was doing anything out of the ordinary.

Get out there tomorrow Jennifer, it may be the last chance until April!

Today was actually a great day - 40 and no wind at all.

The wind is what typically kills me.  It seems like every Sat. for my long run the winds are 15-20 mph, and it sure seems like every time I turn the wind changes direction so it's always right in my face!
