It's okay...haha...I need all the nagging I can get. Jan. 5th I started posting my work outs in my training log.  You guys can see that right?  I hope so. That's why I did it. So you all could look at and tell me what I'm doing wrong/right and give me some pointers. I decided to start alternating running/biking days with Sunday being my off day. Partly because the Y is closed on Sundays anyway and my husband is a pastor so our Sundays are SUPER busy Laughing However, I got an infected hair follicle in my left arm pit about a week ago and Saturday night I had to go to the ER to get it lanced Cry the pain was just so severe I couldn't take it anymore. So now I've got all this packing in my armpit which is just as painful as the abscess was, but with the benefit of not dying from the infection.  Not sure how the workout is going to go this week with all the pain. Hopefully, when I get the packing out I can get back on track.

I hope you all have a great day!

It always seems like something is trying to derail us. Glad you got it taken care of and hope it heals up quick.  I guess stuff like that is why they say the hard part is getting to the start line not the finish line...

Well, I wont hold being a "tide fan" against you.  Though I should.  Tongue out  I have been a tiger since I was 10 years old.  I learned how to fish on Lake Martin in Alex City.  I have spent a bunch of days in that part of the world..

I will set up the training log.  I need to check into that today.  I usually do something every morning before I go to work.  Weather its a ride on my stationary bike or run on the treadmill at the gym but I like the morning cardio workouts.  It was a big part of my weight losing strategy last year.   Looks like the Ga weather will give me a break later this week and I can get in some outside runs/rides.   I am getting a little stir crazy being here all the time.

I second the GPS watch...I got the 405 about a year or so ago and it's one of the bests 'tools' I've ever had. I've logged so much time and courses...the newer model you can actually swim with if you train in open water...(not sure what laps in the pool would really do for you...)

I also invested in a GARMIN 705 for the bike which I use to get all my key data...I don't have a power tap yet so I don't use that function....but it's prepped for it if I ever decide to add something that advanced.

So after parking as far away from the front door of the gym as possible without crossing a bridge, and waiting for 20 minutes for a locker to open up, I swam.

I did a 400, then another, then 300 as planned, but towards the end I was feeling really good.  The next 300 I kept going.  Did 1500 meters straight!  Kept my form pretty good the whole way through, but I probably couldn't have gone much further.

Now I'm really tired, but at least all the time in the pool is starting to pay off.

Just think in about another 4 to 6 weeks all them newyears resolutionist will have fallen off the wagon and youll be able to get right in and do that swim.  I cant wait to start doing some swiming & see how that goes.

Hey guys, I don't know if I am officially accepted in this program but it's my first time too! In April of last year I weighed 210, I started running again and eventually got up to around 6 miles. That started to bore me, so I needed an alternate outlet for my workouts. I have a couple friends training for an Ironman, and while I'm not training for a full one, they have motivated me and believed in me beyond belief to where now I'm going to attempt a half-ironman. I couldn't even swim 25 meters or take a breath in July of last year. I'm happy to say now, I've had swims as long as 2700 meters total and my confidence is way up! I'm currently around 175 lbs and have noticed great improvements in my speed in all 3 sports. I've yet to get a road bike yet but I do spend a lot of time on the gym bikes. Happy Training to you all! Feel free to check out my nutrition and training trials and tribulations in my training log. I'll try to figure out how to add you guys.

Morning folks,

Work got in the way yesterday. By the time I had finished, too late.

Hopefully, today will be better.

Bike Computer: I have a Garmin as well. had a 305, it broke & replaced it with a 310XT. All the comments, I agree with. Indispensible in running & great for cycling. These are pricey though. If you are looking for a cheaper alternative, I have a bike spedometer on my roadie. It is made by trek & I bought at LBS for about $40-50 as compared to >$150 for Garmin. It is bike specific & limited features. It basically has time, distance travelled & speed. It is attached to near my handlebars & easy to see. I like it because I check it on the fly. If I am flying down road, Nice to see that I am going 40mph!! Anyway, another choice, depending on what you are looking for.

Have a good day folks,

R

Morning everyone. Its just about 7:00 am here in north Georgia and a balmy 25 deg. Today is going to be our last day of this Arctic cold so i am looking forward to getting outside. Did a 60 min bike ride this morning on my stationary bike at 4:30am and now off to work..I appreciate the recommendations on the GPS. I am going to check into it today... Anyone now want to recommend a comfy saddle for a big guy? And a good pair of bike shorts...Thanks and have a great day

Well, another busy day for me. Did get a 10 min exercise bike ride, followed by 40 min dreadmill, progression run. With my tight schedule today, glad to have gotten it done.

How is everyone else?

Well, I talk a good game, but I also don't listen to myself.  I just could not drag myself out of bed this morning.  And it was warm - 28F!

In 15 minutes I head out to the gym for a swim and a shortish treadmill run.

My arm is healing up so I headed out to the gym this morning, on my birthday too! I did my usual walk/run...about 2.5 miles. I did some strength training for my core and hips/glutes.  And then came home to a made-from-scratch, 3-layer red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting made by a wonderful woman in our church.....ugh...so good. I've only had one piece though....and I'm about to send it with my husband to a meeting.  I'm going to hit the bike tomorrow I hope everyone is doing well!

Out to the gym tonight for a run on the treadmill.  I am in that "gotta make myself go" right now.  I need a week under my belt then I will have no motivation issues.  I have done my morning cardio the past three mornings and added a run tonight.  I plan on swimming in the morning then some strength training tomorrow night.  The strength training sessions help me get motivated.

.

Good to hear your arm is getting better.  If you had a staph infection, it is nothing to mess with.  My wife is a pharmacist at our local hospital and you would not believe the people who die of staph every year.  Take care of it first.

OK, I have worked on my training log and profile some. I will put a real picture up there soon. Just need to find one. If you guys take a look at it, let me know what I need to add on there.

Hey, you are TOTALLY in! The more the merrier....and seriously, that is some great improvement in just a year. I always find that the friends I made in Tri push me to better myself and keep me focused even when I'm lacking in motivation.Phil

So, compliment of the day...After spin class today my friend Denise said..."Hey Phil, do you mind if I tell you something and I hope you'll take this the right way..."So, I'm like, sure (being the ever friendly and really thick skinned happy guy I am...I mean, what could possibly offend me???)She said, "Well, me and a girl friend were walking into the gym past the pool and she said.."Wow, look at that guy, his a** is smaller than mine!" She said, Phil it was you she was talking about. So I guess all my working out is going well if strange women think I have a nice small rear end......I'll take it. (and I haven't had a compliment like that since, ah, high school...I think)LOL.Keep working everyone! You too can have a small a**.Phil

Phil - That story is hysterical!  Glad everything is paying off even in the form of compliments from opposite sex.  I've never had that problem as I've pretty much never had an ...lol.  I've been getting made fun of by friends and even my wife for years.  THey all say I just have a really long back ; )

We this WP&G class I've been taking really incorporates a lot of sqwats and lunges.  After 2 months, what do you know.  I think I've found my backside!  I get a big kick out it.  Now we just need to tell the ladies to keep the hands off!  lol
