wgraves7582 - 2010-03-26 5:34 AM I like sessions so much more than mileage when figuring goals!

Good Morning!

I'm the opposite.  I like putting my goals in mileage; it pushes me harder.  Otherwise, I might go out and slack through a session, but it still counts.  Does that make sense?

wgraves7582 - 2010-03-26 5:44 AM So question of the day?

What does Bill pack for a 112+ mile bike ride food wise.

I am making a mid way stop for personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut but will need some snackage along the way.

Oatmeal & Granola to start with and balance bars & bananas but I know I need some glamour food to pull me through!

Well, as you are probably aware, anything longer than two hours, you will need a protein-carb mixture.  I like to alterante this component with diluted gel to help with taste.  With this method, I consume a measured amount every half hour for the entire ride.  Since I'm deficit spending (the American way), it is very important to not fall behind.  I have been able to use this route for up to eight hours and still feel good.  You know my product preferences, so I'm not going to advertise.

Solid food is just a pain in the butt to pack.  However, if I'm on a loop course with a pit area, I like bananas, almonds, cashews, potatoes, english muffins, dried fruit, plain sliced turkey, chicken, or ham, CLIF builder bars....  I'm usually OK with anything plain-jane and stay away from fruits with skins, unless you want to be making pit stops.

Just my two cents.

I have a hard time figuring out how much mileage I am actually going to be riding or swimming or running in a month.  I don't run plans so that is most of the problem with that.

At the start of the month I figured 500 miles would be a good month and I am blowing by that.  I guess if I was on a "plan" I would pay closer attention.

500 miles is great!  I find that my run-bike mileage are inversely related.  I just can't seem to build these together.  When I was building for the marathon, my cycling miles became almost non-existent.  Also, it takes alot of time for me to build cycle miles since there 90 percent trail and 10 percent road.  Swimming is pretty much status quo around 25,000 yards for me.

Hey Bill, what do you think about this set up with the bags?  I want to keep things tight with the bike for handling.  I'm not sure about the frame bag though; my bike has less space inside the front triangle.

Have you heard of Carousel Design Works?  The guy is only a couple of hours from me.

wgraves7582 - 2010-03-26 5:32 AM I actually got 2 - 2 mile runs in last night and this morning with no leg problems!  Exciting news!

Onward and upward to steady 1-2 weeks of 2 milers and then up to 2.5 - babysteps!

Yeah!!  That is good news, Bill  Smile  Glad the leg is getting better!

wgraves7582 - 2010-03-25 1:48 PM I get to go listen to a 5th grade boys sex-ed talk - fun times!!! - LOL

My son didn't even want me coming but I have to - I told him we would go for pizza afterwards and I would correct all the bad stuff they said!

Just think it will be my first education in the subject and I am 43!  My parents did not do a real bang up job educating us

Is it just that generation or what?  My parents avoided that conversation as well.

x3 and i'm the only girl out of the 5 of us who didn't end up pregnant before marriage...is it wrong of me to make a correlation here?!?

I don't know.  I didn't get pregnant.  How about you Bill?

brick94513 - 2010-03-25 6:34 PM Another miserable swim.  Just haven't been feelin' good in the water lately.

On another note, I had the most unpleasant experience in the pool. So, I'm mid set and all of sudden I get this strong odor of perfume and I literally can't breathe.  I actually had to stop to catch my breath.  Well, in the lane next to me, an old lady got in and was doing this pseudo breast stroke to keep her hair dry as she swims.  Oh my god, the smell was so strong.  Why are people so inconsiderate?  ignorant?  Use your own adjective here!  Luckily I was able to move lanes.

I've heard other people complain about this, but never experienced it personally.

Funny thing, I also had the gagging on perfume experience at the pool this week.
We used to have a receptionist that was constantly putting on more perfume.  The boss finally had to pull her aside and explain that if you can smell your own perfume, ITS TOO STRONG! It got much better after that.

Happychick - 2010-03-25 5:35 PM Since there has been talk of facebook, can someone help me find where the hell to find a list of MY friends from my homepage? Since they revamped it I can't find how to get to someone's page who hasn't posted something recently. Now, I know I'm not the most computer/facebook savvy person but COME ON!!

No help here...  I'm still resisting Facebook, Twitter, etc.

I used to work in a DAs office so I resisted for a looooong time (after seeing the things that happen because of sites like that) but everyone I know is on facebook now so I succumbed to the peer pressure!

I resisted for a long time too.  I already wasted enough time on the computer,  I didn't need something else to waste time on. Then my wife got a note from one of my old high school friends.  I spent an hour on my wife's facebook account that evening catching up.  I signed up on facebook a week later.
