kcarroll - 2010-09-07 11:32 AM Morning everyone! Hope the weekend activities were entertaining or relaxing, whichever you were aiming for.

Howdy Kim

Thanks for the Camelback recommendation.

I did Charro Trail the first night.  The 2nd day I went up Echo Canyon, came down Charro, and ran 3.0 miles back to the trail head.  Friday I hauled butt up and back down Echo.  Man what a workout!!!

Good thing it was only 115 last week!!!

Hi Bill, glad you enjoyed it.  I don't think it was ever that hot when I climbed it. We usually went early in the morning.  You are definitely The Most.

wgraves7582 - 2010-09-07 12:01 PM Mad props to the older gentleman that passed me carrying a 1 gallon jug of water and in his VFF

For all you in Arizona that feel you can just leave an empty water bottle where ever you finish it off - I know it is real heavy to carry a 1 oz bottle back down with you but maybe some strength training will help you develop upper body strength to handle it in the future.  I packed out 4-5 bottles and that is just wrong in my mind.

And for you youngsters that think you can climb a mountain in 115+ heat without any water - ummm God gave you a brain for a reason - to use!!!!  That is about the dumbest thing I have ever seen and you should be thankful for the trail angel that let you have some of his and then drenched your shirt for you so you would stay cool.

Ok I feel better now!

There was an old guy that ran Echo every morning and always passed me. He was a local legend. As for the dumb young 'uns, you are way too nice. I'm inclined to help animals, babies and old people. Dumb teenager tourists are on their own.

While we are in a bit of minor ranting mode:  I was in the park for a good bit of my long run this weekend. Nice shade and a MUP that sees a lot of activity. My best estimate is that at least 50% of the bikers were not wearing helmets, including the kids.  I wanted to smack some adults.

I think I'm coming down with something.

Last week my daughter said she had a sore throat and didn't feel well a few days. I'm sitting here at my desk with a sore throat, feeling funny in the head, thinking I haven't eaten since breakfast yesterday. I woke up this morning with a little bit of a bloody nose, now I've got a bunch of junk running down the back of my throat.

I need to run tonight, I can't go any slower without going backwards.

It is easier to help them than to listen to the echos of their whining or their death throes while I am hiking.  I haven't yet had to stomp one to put one out of its misery yet, but maybe someday.

One of my pet peeves. Especially parents who have their kids with helmets but not themselves. I always wonder if they think it would be nice for their kid to watch them die of a closed head injury.

This alone is a signal that you need Ghoulie Ju Ju.  Start the echinacea and vitamin C now.  And put some food in you, even if you're not hungry. Chicken soup or something easy to digest. And LOTS of water.

Want me to come to the park with you and we can knock them off of their bikes?

Sunday morning my son needed to go down to his grandparents to look for something he left down there. I told him to take a 4-wheeler, but he felt confident enough to try the road bike. I took it off of the trainer for him and took it upstairs. I followed him down the road on a 4-wheeler and I'm glad he did. Coming back up the hill he decided to try to go down on the aerobars. I saw him lose control, I thought he had gotten it back but nope, faceplant in the neighbors driveway. I jumped off the 4-wheeler quick and ran over to him. He scuffed up his hands and his chin, but nothing else was wrong with him. He wears one of the mountain biking helmets with the little rim in the front. Without the helmet, and possibly the rim, he'd have eaten stones.

Wear your helmets!

Robin, your example is the most typical. Do as I say, not as I do. The one that REALLY frosted me was the dad who did have a helmet on but had his toddler in the bucket behind his seat with nada. Grrrrr.

I know he was nervous so I had no problem going. He did take the 4-wheeler the rest of the way home and I rode the bike. When we went to my sisters later he took his bike and he went out riding around the neighborhood with my nephew. He told me he used the aerobars again. I did remind him after his accident to not go down on them when you are going up a hill.

He didn't have the best weekend.

I did let him stay up a little late last night to watch a show he likes, so his weekend wasn't a total bust.

I think you should be very thoughtful of your co-workers and head home now, so as not to pass your illness on to others. Pick up the chicken (is astronaut chicken something that NASA developed?) and get into your jams with a cup of hot tea with lemon and honey.
