My wife has been very nervous the last couple of times I've been out on my bike. I seem to be doing better on the bike I am averaging about 17-18 mph now which is up from 16 mph. I could not break the 16mph for a long time. I am looking forward to St. George! Ive been debating doing that as well. Im a paramedic and think they are a great idea to have. I highly recommend everyone gets a road ID. It will bring peace of mind to you and your family. When I crashed during RAGBRAI last some people on the scene used it to contact my family and let them know what had happened |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() mikoy - 2011-01-20 6:04 PM So quick question. I am starting to feel sick. I have been really tired lately and now I have a sore throat. I do not want this to get worse. This is very typical for me right before I get really sick. Do I continue to train hard or should I back off, rest so that I can get over this more quickly, or just train through it? I mean today had a good run this morning but I am not feeling up to a swim tonite. Any suggestions thanks My vote's for backing off and getting some more rest than usual. That's typically what I try and do and figure that my body is going to be stressed enough fighting the sickness that the extra stress that comes with the workout will be too much for it to handle. If your symptoms are all above the neck you can still get away with a workout, but just lower the intensity and/or duration. Sometimes those short workouts make me feel better for a little while. |

Thanks Neal, Unfortunately I am now developing some GI issues, and a low grade fever. So I'm going to rest today and tomorrow. If I'm feeling better I will go out on Sat. but I while cut back some. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I just wanted to let you guys know that I am heading out to San Diego in the morning. I'll try and check in periodically, but I may be a little slower to respond than normal. It should be an interesting half marathon considering my lack of run training. Everyone have a great weekend! |

New user ![]() | ![]() mikoy - 2011-01-16 12:05 AM Well I had a very interesting day today. I went out for a 2 hour ride, to be followed by a 30 min run. All was going well I was about 1 1/2 hours into the ride and riding better than ever. I was coming up my last big hill, and I was trying to catch these two guys ahead of me. I keep looking up to see if I was catching them. When I look up and one guy is on the ground and his friend is jumping off his bike and waving his arms to stop a big truck before it runs over his friend. I got up on the pedals and got up there as fast as I could. The man down (Mark) was totally non responsive. So I get someone in the car to call 911 and start CPR. Marks friend and I kept trading positions with compressions, they really wear you out. Mark seemed like he was coming around about 3 times but each time he slipped back out of it. We were finally joined by an of duty firefighter about 15 minutes into it. We could not figure out were the ambulance was. Finally it shows up but we were doing CPR for 25 mins before they got there. At one point he started vomiting blood. It was horrible. They brought in a life flight heli to get him out. We had to shock him once but I don't think it worked. It has really freaked me out. This guys ride all the time, they we also about 1 1/2 hrs into their ride. Mark had said he wasn't feeling 100% so they were taking it easy, and then he just goes down. So everyone just be careful and stay safe! OMG! That is horrible! Please let us know if you hear anything. |

New user ![]() | ![]() Hey everyone! I'm still out here. Been following the post, just not very motivated. The winter always deflates my motivation balloon. ![]() Thanks - Christine |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sadly I did get the news that Mark did not make it. He had a aortic aneurysm, or aortic dissection. Basically he never really had a chance. They ER doc said it was amazing that we were about to keep him with a (albeit bad) rhythm for so long. At least I know that I do chest compressions correctly. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well I haven't had a good week of training. My border collie, Holly, got sick again after being home for 4 days, so I had to make the hardest decision of my life and put her to sleep. I have been feeling very sad and sorry for myself and can't find the motivation to start training again. I did go for a run today, I had to, I hopped on the scales and had put on 2 kilos. I can't let myself go backwards plus I still have Charlie, my other border collie to keep fit. So we did go for a 35 min run. Does anyone have a Timex Ironman GPS watch? |

![]() ![]() | ![]() Made it home from Reno last night. Went out today for my first bike ride in 2 weeks. Did 39 miles and it felt great to be back on the bike despite being 31 degrees with 15-20 mph sustained winds. |

Sorry to hear about the doggie, I can't imagine doing. As for the watch, I am also considering getting one myself. Either the timex or a Garmen. Let me know how it goes. |

![]() ![]() | ![]() Had a great chest/tricep workout this morning. Took a late lunch this afternoon at work and went out for a run. Run felt great for the first ~ 8 minutes and then started getting serious cramping in the right calf. Ended up doing the run/walk thing after that until I hit two miles. I know I wasn't especially hydrated but wasn't expecting that kind of cramping in that short of a time frame at an easy pace in nice 50 degree weather. Guess I need to get a little water in me. Maybe a little sports drink to get the electrolytes balanced out. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So what's everyone up to this weekend? I just realized I am sitting 32 weeks out from IMWI. That means the official training starts on Sunday. That also means I need to get next month's training plan written up! |
