I'll be in the 12:30 sportmens race. it's about 18 miles through some great woods, mostly single track but plently of room to pass. I had no clue on what to expect on my 1st race last year. This year I'm 15 lbs thinner and have been training for 1st marathon for the last 28 weeks. So I'm in much better shape. I'll still be taking it alittle easy to avoid injury, this marathon thing has been going on forever it seems. I raced last year and really had a ball, they gave us a beer after the race, wow that really went to my head fast.... good times. Where are you headed? Good luck and have a great weekend Mine is outside of Stevens Point WI. Cat 2 Male (Sports Class). 15-18 miles. This will be my 11th year racing here. Good luck and have fun........ Good luck! I'm a Wisconsin native (grew up in Milwaukee and went to UW-Madison). What race is this? This weekend is in Iola (Stevens Point). This is the start of a 15 Race season. 12 series MTB Races, a 12 hr Solo Race, a 40 mile Epic Race........and 1 dreaded Tri.....LOL. Sounds like a lot of fun!! I think it's funny that you're dreading the tri after you are excited about a 12 hour solo race. If you can do that, you can TOTALLY do a tri!!! |

Science Nerd 28760 Redwood City, California | Subject: RE: Artemis' "WE CAN DO IT!" Mentor Group - FULL spaceyg02 - 2011-04-30 5:12 PM I am back from my two week vacation to the beach and feel relatively proud of myself that there were only four days in which I did not intentionally workout. I jogged on the beach (a first for me), jogged with a marathon-competing friend (first time jogging with another person), biked around an island twice, etc. Today was day one of back to my routine of stationary bike, running at the gym, and swimming at the school I work at. I had said that I wasn't going to weigh myself until two weeks from now, but I just couldn't wait. I wanted to see what kind of damage I did while on a two week vacation of drinking and eating way too much. There was about a four pound difference. Overall, however, I was pretty proud of myself. These four pounds could be from a number of different reasons; water retention, traveling, etc. I know that I'll get back to normal and losing soon. All in all, I had a wonderful vacation and am looking forward to my first sprint triathlon in 69 days! Those sound like wonderful workouts during a vacation!! Don't worry about 4 pounds. It could be from so many different reasons and it will go away once you get back into it. |

I already do all the distances, if not farther, back-to-back-to-back at the gym now. My own little indoor triathlon. My "Problem" is that I am too competitive and will not be happy unless I have the same results as my goals. Unfortunately my goal is more than just finishing. I know, I know, this is my first tri and I should be happy to finish, but I want to be in the top 33% of my age group. I need to swim, swim and swim some more........... |

Keep up with the swimming and you will get there. Plus, the swim is relatively shortest distance compared to the other legs, so you can make up some lost time there. |

Regular 182 Bartow County, GA | Subject: RE: Artemis' "WE CAN DO IT!" Mentor Group - FULL Sorry for being MIA this week. We had a new attending start and it's be rocky with his ability to computer chart and guess who gets the honor to help him train? I could be seeing patients of my own, but I'm stuck with him right now. So I've been having a little pity party for myself on a lot of things. I'm back in the saddle. Tomorrow I'll likely sign up with the LA Fitness nearby and get some extra training in before my Tri. I'll print out the training schedule for the August Sprint and start that soon. My first Olympic Triathlon is in exactly 2 weeks!!! The good news from today is all my teammates finished the St. Anthony's Tri, even my training partner, so if she can do it, I can do it! Swim practice tomorrow night and I start my taper of both food and exercise this week. Hope you all had a great weekend! |

Regular 182 Bartow County, GA | Subject: RE: Artemis' "WE CAN DO IT!" Mentor Group - FULL Artemis... I just looked at the custom training plan and have come across the same problem as someone else did earlier last month... it's telling me to swim 1600 yards in 32 mins!!! It takes me an hour to go that distance! So do I swim 32 minutes or 1600 yards? I'm thinking I'm supposed to swim 1600 yards to have the distance down. Edit: Nevermind... I found the place to adjust my settings as to pace and made it a little more realistic. What's sad is I'm training for this Sprint in August, but it'll around the time of my surgery, so I may not be able to participate. Unless I put off the surgery until after the Tri... now that's an idea! Edited by goofee girl 2011-05-01 8:10 PM |

Monsterman - how did your MTB race go? I did much better then last year, but..... i did crash - or tip over twice. No major injuries but I will have a nice dark bruse in a few days dead center in my chest, lol. I had so much fun and plans for next year are already marked in my wifes outlook calendar! Have a great week everyone - 6 days till my 1st marathon! |

Yep, that sounds like a reason I don't do MTB races. I'm seriously impressed with people who do. |

Member 333 Marshall Michigan | Subject: RE: Artemis' "WE CAN DO IT!" Mentor Group - FULL Yes there are impressive people who MTB, I however am a back of the packer, my crashes where very un-impressive. More like me running out of steam on a steep hill - bump a root and then....timmmmmber crash. i really do love the trails, roots, woods, streams, hills (kind of) and when the bugs come out in summer they keep you moving evan faster. I wish i could hang w/ the pack but honestly, on my 2nd 9 mile loop I road alone in the woods for so long I thought I was on the wrong trail! Until the next wave caught me. lol i had alot of fun! Love riding the trails, and will never stop. Never stop being passed as well which is fine by me. Yes alittle worried about Kalamazoo Marathon, but i did my miles in training, so I'll finish. In no way I should be considered a runner, I'm a jogger. My goal is to finish this marathon. Sure i have a pace in mind (10:30 mile) but I will in no way be put off if I finish much slower. I have to keep reminding myself, this is a test, my test for a long term goal of IM in 2015. |

Science Nerd 28760 Redwood City, California | Subject: RE: Artemis' "WE CAN DO IT!" Mentor Group - FULL I still find anyone who mountain bikes impressive. The last time I did, I was 9. My front tire hit a root, I flew over the handlebars and scraped up my face. That was it for me!! You have a great attitude about the marathon. Go out there, stick with your plan, and you'll finish strong. Don't worry about "just" being a jogger! You'll be a marathoner!!!! |

Well, I was hoping to get back to my regular schedule at work, but it looks like it is going to stay hectic. Unfortunately I had to fire one of my cooks, which means I have to pick up the slack and get only one day off work a week till I get another. I told myself I would do whatever it takes to reach my goals. I did get my butt up and ran a mile today and some exercises. Also walked to work and will walk home. Not much, but it's better than nothing.

Because of the weather around here lately, the pre-ride was the first time this year my son & I rode trail. Sunday's race turned out good. My son moved up to Cat 2 (Sport) this year with me. He placed 1st in his age group. I pounded out a 9th in my age group. This is one place better but 3 mins slower than last year. Not shabby since the 1st two weeks in April I was in bed with Influenza B. Glad to hear you had a great time. Goodluck this weekend on your marathon. We have 3 weeks off until our next race. |
