I haven't been cross-training recently due to fundage issues but there was a groupon last week for 24 basic sessions at a local Crossfit studio, so I start that tomorrow. Looking forward to it! I think I'll be going 2x a week for 8-9 weeks (it's only good for 60 days after activation). I'm going to be doing a local half marathon on 3/17 so the timing is perfect. I'd like to drop a good 5-10 pounds by then. |

They do LOTS of squats and similar movement - I often have trouble running for a week afterwards! The instructors should help you scale the workouts properly, and your body will adjust. Just be ready for some soreness in the beginning |

What motivates you?? doing something that many think can't be done is one thing that motivates me. Another is never going back to a point in my life when my waist was creeping up to a 38. Now I am a size 33 and that is where I would like to be. |

If you check my log you can see the workout I did. Good luck and have fun with it! It makes you feel like once you get through it you can do anything!! |

It's mostly been building distance (first OLY in 2010, first 70.3 in 2011) but this year, I want to learn to rock the Olympic distance. I'll do a 70.3 or two, probably, but I want to focus on FAST! |

On the other hand, most dept. stores don't carrry pants in a 32 or 33 waist with 34 length I would like to win a race someday, not sure if that will happen at 45 but if I keep at it, the Tri gods may shine upon me one day at a small local race. Setting a good example for my kids also motivates me. They don't know what the letters HTFU stand for but they understand the concept. |

You've only gotta race who shows up that day!! I found out that NO ONE in their 20s did the half iron distance at the HITS race in Naples - I should have gone and claimed the overall win in my age group |

It makes you feel like once you get through it you can do anything!! I did a few crossfit workouts last year with another groupon I had purchased for a different location, so I have a good idea of what I'm in for. Before I moved to GA, I strength-trained at a gym that was only about 3 miles from my apartment.. and there were plenty of days I had to put the cruise control on to drive home because my leg was shaking so bad I couldn't hold down the gas pedal. Then there was the issue of shampooing my hair the next day, amongst other things..lol I'll let you know how it goes! |

I will continue them till about April when I really need to start adding miles on. It is a great workout to do some reps in with your swimming too. Everyone looks at me funny but I think they are getting use to seeing us jump out of the pool and do some squats and situps. |

Regular 72 | Subject: RE: Elaine's Awesome Start to 2012 Group! - Closed! The workout was quite basic last night - just as many reps as possible of 5/10/15 pushups/situps/squats, I guess to get a baseline for most people. I think the instructors were at the number of people who showed up last night - there were probably about 30 for the one class, 99% of whom bought the groupon and had never been to the location before. I'm hoping they will let us advance to the regular crossfit workouts after a while... the groupon is for the "basics" class but I'm pretty sure (and hoping) that to thin out some of the herd, they'll let us advance to the regular crossfit WODs before the 60 days are up. I feel fine today. |

And winning every now and then doesn't hurtOk... let's get some discussion going... What motivates you?? |

Pro 6191 | Subject: RE: Elaine's Awesome Start to 2012 Group! - Closed! You guys are a fun bunch! Such a varied group of athletes! This is a HUGE motivator for me: my first podium! ...and that's me on TOP! It sort of made me realize that anything is possible. The race was one of a series of 5 races. Had it been any other of the 5, I wouldn't have been in the top 5 - not even top 10 for most of them! That's one of the beauties of this sport - you race who shows up. |
