Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Colliewarrior - 2012-01-15 5:51 AM My running shoes and town shoes are the same size. I run in Clima cools by Addias and only run in those shoes. I don't use them for anything else. No disc problems at all. No pain at all today...but then again I did not run. Have a 30 min run tomorrow and I will see how that goes.SportzVision - 2012-01-15 5:30 AM Colliewarrior - 2012-01-13 4:34 PM SportzVision - 2012-01-13 8:29 PM This week's training has had some highs and lows. I have a pain deep inside my hip, almost like sciatica but not consistently in that spot. The run seems to irritate the pain so Tuesday was HORRIBLE! Walked most of it, and the hill I conquered the previous week killed me and I walked more than half. Wednesday was a bike day on the trainer and it worked out fine. Last night, on the treadmill and the pain reared its ugly head once again. Day off from training today and my weekend is filled with bike and swim. Hopefully, a full three days off the run will help. Pain is not normal. It's a signal something is wrong. The brain is then supposed to interpret that signal and make the body go to a doc to get checked out, or you could risk severe injury and no sport for a number of months getting into years. Yeah, I know...BLEH! No pain today during the swim so after a few days of no running I will see what happens on Monday's run. If it is still there then I will head over to medical. Thanks for the input though. Hey another thing, your description of snapping my wrist down and keeping my fingers pointed to my toes through the entire pull has really helped my swim. I am not working nearly as hard as previously! Thanks Hope your training is going well. What shoes are you running in, what size are your town shoes and what size are your running shoes? Do you stretch? Have you ever had disc problems or been assessed for gait? Had to climb some stairs today and the last time I did it hurt, but not today. Sooooo maybe my leg just needed rest. Yes, I stretch but I need to get back into yoga...I do feel all bound up. On that leg the foot has two broken bones with multiple bone spurs and arthritis so I may have hurt my leg making adjustments to my stride if my foot was bothering me. My training, in all areas has increased and I believe this may be it; the increase in running may have been a bit much. Have not had my gait assessed but like swimming I am working on form so things seem to always be changing. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have had a lot of trainers and coaches and people more experienced that I advocate a shoe size larger than normal when running...because we put our feet under pressure and they swell I think. Go to your local running store, and try get a size up from what you normally wear... |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Saturday- Bike 14 miles and ran 2 miles Sunday- Swam 35 minutes, did 21 laps on a pool that was 75 feet long. If my math is correct (and it usually is not) that would be 1050 yards. The swimming is improving but still has a long way to go. Ken Edited by kengood 2012-01-16 8:36 AM |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Also, I changed out the battery in my heart monitor. The last two times I rode my bike it says that my heart rate has hit 200 or higher both times. So I think the battery was going out. I was not even breathing hard the first time it said I hit 200. So either it is going out or I am dead and do not know it. Ha! Go to your local running store, and try get a size up from what you normally wear... I agree with Collie on this one. Before I started training, I always went to a sports store and bought a shoe that was either on sale, or that looked cool. After my training began, I was talking to a couple friends of mine and they all said the same thing, "Go get a proper running shoe!" I decided it was best to do that to help prevent any injuries. I went to Fleet Feet and we found a shoe that was very comfortable and it was a full size bigger than I normally wear. I love those shoes and the best part is that they weren't any more expensive than the ones in a regular sports store. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Me too...got fitted for the first time and tried on about 15 pairs of shoes. Ended up a 1/2 size larger than normal. Today, I had weight training in the am, swimming at lunch and will run this evening. When I start whining to myself about doing 3 workouts in a day, I just think for a sec and say...hey, you'll be doing back to back to back training without rest between on race day so suck it up and get used to it! I have been hungry for the last few days but have been eating very well. Not to make everyone hungry, but I am thinking a filet mignon, broccoli, and a small salad is in order this week. I need some beef! Jay |

Since I have been trying to lose weight, it is an weird feeling. Last night I was way behind on my calories for the day so I ate two complete dinners. But I will say that I am eating much healthier now than before. |

I tore my miniscus and damaged the ligament... from bad fitting shoes on the bike.. and lack of muscular strength.......that simple, but also very very complicated to get it fixed. |

Great job on the soda's! When you put your mind to it and if you want it bad enough, you can overcome almost any obstacle. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() great job on staying away from the sodas Ken Brian I ran across this today and thought about your tired legs
Know the difference between “good tired” and “bad tired.” If you want to run PRs, you’ll need to do some tough workouts and it’s normal to feel tired afterward. If you’re constantly tired for days at a time, you might be overtraining. Sprinkle in more easy days until you’re back on your game.

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() brenyer - 2012-01-16 11:04 AM Ok, I just realized my running shoes are a half size bigger than my normal shoes. Its tough because I wear an in-between size so every shoe is different on my feet. Another size up and I may just be able to ski the run routes!Colliewarrior - 2012-01-16 1:01 AM I have had a lot of trainers and coaches and people more experienced that I advocate a shoe size larger than normal when running...because we put our feet under pressure and they swell I think. Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Love the three day weekend and the ability to spread my swim training out instead of cramming three days of training into two days. However, I must push harder on that third day because I am exhausted! This week's plan: R: 40 minutes. 10 minute warm up, then do 20 second strides(see week R: easy pace, RPE 3 S: race-specific R: 60 minute long run, easy pace. Strides begin at the 40 minute mark. S: speed day B: 90 minutes long bike again this week. Edited by SportzVision 2012-01-17 3:57 PM |

I ended up taking the entire weekend off(we are moving at the end of the month and it's been superrrrr cold here) and by Sunday morning my body felt great. No soreness or stiffness of any kind, soooo I HAVE to learn to incorporate one day off per week. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Cynthia, Pretty heavy schedule you have there. I assume you have done this before since you have some longer distances in there. What length race are you training for? Also, stupid question...what does RPE stand for? Jay |
