Im running 3hrs week and on the trainer about 3hrs a week right now just to stay in shape. Will probably start Jorges cycling plan in Nov, and do finks plan again starting 1/1. But im kind of a slacker and although Id like to take 20-30min off last years time I wont sacrifice enjoying myself to do it. Im doing this to stay in shape, challenge myself, and have fun.

Accomodation

Hi - I`m doing IMLP 2013.  It`ll be my third, after 2011 and 2012.  It is a great course, great event and great people do it :-)

I have rented a 4BD house with a mate and someone he works with.  All live in NYC.  It is $4,600 for the week (Thur to Thur).

?The house is oposite the Marriot.  On the run and bike course.

Anyone interested?  We are all between 30-37yrs old.  My wife, mate girlfriend and the other girls husband are making up the numbers.  Shoot me an email  [email protected]

Good luck with the training.

I am self coached...I have done 2 HIM, and various other events that way and plan to do my IM that way also(would like a coach but need a lot of flexibility with time/money), but following a plan as close as my lifes schedule allows me....but I do have a background in sports medicine and exercise physiology so I guess that gives me a little advantage to understanding performance etc.

I have pretty much started an informal , unstructured bike focussed plan right now on the trainer....I am trying to build and maintain my long runs around 13-15 for the time being and work on swim technique and do 1-2 times a month a 1.75-2.4 continuous swim...but this is unstrucuted right now and my weekly hours are down due to wedding, bachelor parties and life which I knew was coming this time of the year.

good luck everyone!

I'm run focused right now,  and will remain so until I complete the Philly marathon. After that, I'll hang in the 45-55 miles per week (to include a 15-17 mile long run each week) arena until I begin training again for my pacing gig at my spring marathon. On top of that, I've been swimming 2 days per week and will be moving to 3 days per week this week. That'll will ideally move to 4 days per week with the new year.

I have not been biking too much as of late due to the run training. I'll work in the bike again after the marathon, and then won't back off during my spring marathon training, as it won't be a goal race. I'll be biking at least 3 days per week, but hopefully 4, to include a long trainer ride each Saturday. Mondays and another non-running day to be determined will be interval and threshold work.

I haven't picked a formal plan yet, so my goal now is to be able to pick up any plan I choose by having a solid base. My logs are current, but I've had evening scheduling issues that kept me out of the pool last week.

This is a long way to say I'll be self coached. I'm looking forward to choosing and nailing down a formal training plan, as I work best with a definite schedule.

Working on my bike for the now (I already started Jorge's cycling prog). Little bit of swim, and a little bit of run.

My goal for now is to get thru the holidays happy and in good shape

I hired a coach a couple months ago and so far so good!

Things are going to really kick in around January-Feb for me

I plan on hiring a coach with a formal plan starting Jan 1.  I've been self-coached through 3 half-distance seim/bike events, and a HIM, but I think I would feel better getting a coach for a full IM.  My run is definitely the weak point as I've had a whole string of injuries over the past few years that have kept me out of running.  If I can make it to the start line in one piece, it may be a miracle.  For that reason, my run training will not be ramping up too much, and I will be putting a heavy focus on the bike starting in December.

Currently, I'm following a plan done by the same coach for a friend of mine last year, which started Oct 1, so I'm swimming 3-4 times per week, biking 3 times per week and running 3 times per week, along with 2 strength workouts each week.

I am following Fink's plan (competitive) this year, and will start Jan 1 or so with it.  For the off season, I have been doing some light running and a bit on the bike.  Not a lot of heavy workouts, more light maintenance.  This is starting to build a bit, though.  I did not do a 1/2 or full in 2012, so it was a generally light year, so I keep telling myself I have to ease into training and really be careful to avoid injuries.

Prior to the plan start, I want to do the following (more concrete):

1)  Get some swim form instruction; get in the pool to practice 2-3x a week

2)  Get my bike position dialed in; I have had a less aggressive position on my tri bike for about a year and a half, and I am ready to get more aggressive

3)  Keep doing 2-3 runs per week, really low intensity, but increasing time duration (get used to the impact more than anything else)

4)  Jorge's plan when I get my bike back (got a power meter installed, really excited!); 3x week (perhaps no long weekend)

In general, just get to the number of sessions required for IM per week by December or so, but all shorter, more intensity in swim and bike than run, and be healthy and happy!

How is everyone feeling?  These dark mornings start take hold this time of year up here...

Where are you jsenc2002?  It's dark here in the mornings now.  I'm in Ontario.  It really puts a damper on getting up for an early session.

Finished the 2012 season on Saturday with the Waterman's Half in Maryland on Saturday.  Was not expecting the conditions that we encountered - 60 degree water and approx 40 degree bike ride. Everything went well except I need to make some adjustments to my nutrition - energy level was fading near the end of the run.  This was a good learning experience on the road to LP next summer.

For the Lake Placid Vetrans,

How do you find out exactly which manufactures products will be available on the course for fueling?  I'm a die-hard Hammer Nutrition fan and so if it's something else, like it has been in the past, I want to convert over as soon as possible.

Also, anyone here usingwww.trainerroad.com?

This is from the FAQ section on the website (http://ironmanlakeplacid.com/athletes/faq/):

What nutrition will be available on course?
Bike course aid stations will offer the following:

There will be aid stations approximately every mile on the run course offering:

Hands down, TrainerRoad is the best thing to happen to my biking. I don't use it much during the outdoor riding season, but I'm VERY excited to get back to it now that I'm moving back onto the trainer. I'm run focused right now, but I'll probably add one of there more mellow workouts here and there over the next few weeks before my marathon taper starts.

I`m sure you have all heard the rule - do not try something new on race day!!!!!!!

Well, my stomach is pretty tough - being Scottish, I eat haggis.   But the ??Ironman Perform stuff got me a bit last year.  I was stupidly taking that every aid station on the bike when i should have been taking water and adding Nuun etc..    Just a word of warning......   Wish they would just provide Gatorade...

Agree, the IM Perform is nasty stuff!  I plan to carry what I can and have a refill waiting in bike special needs.

Sorry, just back from a couple business trips.  I live around the Boston area, so far enough north to really start to feel it about now.   At least it isn't snowing ... yet!

I don't mind the Perform as much, but I try to dilute it with water to about 1/2 Perform and 1/2 water; I try to get more calories from Gu and Rocbloks.  Not that any of it tastes great after about five hours!

I've been using it religiously in training for the past month.  I like Accelerade better...but would really like simplicity of living off the course.  I've been tinkering with intake, but hope to have it dialed in to a "T" come July.

When is everyones training going into effect? Are you going with a coach? online or in person? Self coach athletes speak up to!

Im starting up in Nov and Im getting a coach for my first ironman.

Anyone have experience with EN (Endurance Nation)?  I signed up there...figured I would see if I like their philosophy.  Does anyone have experience comparing their Outseason Plan to Jorge's Winter Plan?

I did the trial and i didn't like it; no point to pay $100 monthly if they are providing individual feedback. Plus IMHO that ton of intensity on the run is a perfect formula to get injured.

The bike is about the same as jorge's plan; tons of FTP/Sweet Spot/Short Intervals (at the beginning)

For the past two years I have used Hammer Perpeteum for my two HIM's todate.  Perpeteum has worked well for me, and looks very different from what I have seen of the Ironman Perform.  Hard to imagine they'd function in similar ways.  Has anyone trained with both?

I may carry all my nutrition for one half of the bike and leave a refill in the special needs????  I guess I have time to figure it all out.
