I scheduled my bike fitting for next week.  I excited and nervous at the same time because I am clueless in that arena.  I hope my local bike shop is not to judgmental lol.  He told me to bring my shorts / shoes but I dont have shoes.  Should I get there early and find a pair to buy ya think?

I would appreciate any other advice, things to ask etc. for my first trip there.

you might be able to jump on performancebikes.com and get a pair of shoes for a bit cheaper.   What is the name of the shop I would like to look them up.   Since you are going to a true shop  I would not worry about it and they can get you fit and then do adjustments down the road if you get shoes later.

MOAB ... They have a shop in Murfreesboro, TN and Franklin, TN ... I will be going to the boro.

I have some pretty exciting news today.  I did 4.28 miles in 54:10 today and only stopped for two 30 second walk sessions (1 @  0815, 2 @ 1130).  So from 12 min's on I ran non stop.  The pace sucked but it should be noted I was running my favorite route by my house which has the continuous increase in elevation with 3 major hills.

What I did different today.  I walked / jogged for 5 minutes, static stretching, 5 minute light jog warmup, 1 minute break then started my run.  Believe it or not I had more trouble out of my feet than my shins today and about 3/4 through my shoulders were killing me (thoughts on this?).  I am having some aching in my left foot near the arch while running and when I swim this same area tends to cramp (thoughts on this?).

First thought   Great run.  that is some great news to figure out on the warm up to get to running.

sometime I get tense in the neck and shoulders,  I just have to work on relaxing.    I have not figured out what fully triggers it besides just running tense and not comfortable.

On the foot cramps, get a good warm up and watch water intake,  most cramps come from dehydration.

OMG lake swim today.  About 2 years ago I freaked out in this lake and had to be resuced back to the shore by a mate, so today was a hugh hurdle for me.

My mates did it first and then I joined in.  I must say I am so proud of myself and the others for getting out of the pool and into our uncomfort zone.  I can't believe how relaxing swimming is in a lake, once I got over the initial mind set of what had happened and got into my relax take it easy and nice and slow.

Next week we are gonna try an ocean swim, actually where our tri is being held.

I also get my bike back next week, had to buy a new derailer.

Happy training all.

Awsome swim.   that is a huge jump to be swimming in open water.    Glad to hear it and keep it up.

I get to change my race plan for this year now.   Just found out they are postponing my fire academy a full year.    Now back to the Lubbock HIM and looking into doing the Louisville FuLL in august.     I will also have to retest for the fire department because my active time for my application will expire before the next academy.    That is disappointing.

OH well,   everyone have a great weekend.

I had a very strenuous workout today and through it all I really tried to push past my threshold.

I was worried last night because the pain in my arch lasted until bed time.  I iced the feet three times and this morning when I woke up the pain was all gone and other than a couple of foot cramps while swimming I had no trouble training.

On a super positive note ... I finally surpassed my next weight loss goal and am now halfway to my main weight loss goal.  I have lost 51 pounds now!  Only 49 pounds left to go!!!

Dumb question ... Your supposed to get fitted for a bike before you buy one right?  I seen someone talking about taking their bike for a fit so I just dont want to look like an idiot showing up to get fitted and not have a bike already.

I think you definitely want to get fitted before buying because its the only way to know if the bike you want to buy will fit you. Our local bike shop has a guru fit system where you are actually fit on a machine that adjusts itself until you are at the optimal position. Once its finished a report prints out listing all the bikes that you can buy that will fit you. Its really cool.

Whole grain pasta+, sausage meat sauce

I normally prepare this meal after a heavy strength training session.   1 cup of sauce prepared and 2 oz. of pasta yield 600 calories, 29g fat, 25.7g protein, 56.6g carbs, 15.9g sugar, and 4g of fiber.  I like the healthier turkey sausage version myself but the family will not eat it lol.  The bread is 160ish calories and I only have a piece of that if I have room in my calorie budget for the day.

If you cut out the pasta and bread then you don't need to worry about calorie budgetting. I started eating no sugar/ no grains while increasing my healthy fats about 2 months ago and literally became a fat burning machine.

I have pictures on photobucket.  Then I use the "Insert image" button and put the "direct link" address in that.

Over the past week I have had some challenging workouts and pushing through those inspired me to try and put those gut checks in writing.  I hope they can provide everyone with a little boost and I hope it doesnt sound to corny.

Inner Strength

Determination; when you think you can't run another mile you stare down the upcoming hill and dig out that pit in your stomach and push on for another two.

Drive; while swimming sprints you push through the feeling of your muscles burning, lungs gasping, and your bones aching just because you know you can be better.

Willpower; climbing that monstrous hill with everything you have left only to see a bigger hill as you crest.  Your legs are about to explode, the sweat burns your eyes, and your lungs are on fire.  The pain tells you to stop but instead you welcome it and pedal harder.

Heart; training every day like its your last.  Laughing at the pain because it won't stop you from being better than you were yesterday.  Pushing that extra distance just to feel alive.

Do you have the determination, drive, willpower, and heart to dig deep and find yourself in those moments?  You'll never know if you don't tri.

-M. Taylor

I think that sums up what it takes to complete triathlons.   I like all aspects of your motivation.

One of my motivators is to be a strong example for my children.

2nd is "the compitition thanks you for taking the day off."

Gotta say I really like the lake swimming and perfer it to the pool.....at the moment.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Well the bike shop talked me out of a tri bike.  They made the good point of me needing to learn to crawl and walk before run.  It has been a long time since I road a bicycle so I am taking there advice and going back friday to test ride some road bikes.

As far as training goes I had a really great swim today; I combined some distance with some sprinting.
