Thanks for the info about how to get cadence. I was given a new wireless cat eye computer but it goes on my front tire so I can't get any readings while in my trainer. I bought a cheap wired bell computer just so I can keep track of distance while in my trainer. Not sure if it'll do cadence but I'll look. My half ironman is on June 23rd. I just finished week 5 of my training plan. So far so good!!

Sal Hontiveros - 2013-03-05 4:34 PM
reverend5150 - 2013-03-05 4:26 PMI was just starting to look for wetsuits. Does anyone have recommendations about brand or where to get a good price??
I bought an Xterra sleeveless with discount code "C-NSTC" for $120.Regular price $300

Thanks, I'll check that out.

I wanted too see what types of supplements, if any, you all are taking. I have a friend who owns a local shop and he told me to stick with a basic protein shake with a scoop of creatine and glutamine and that's really all.

Wanted to see all your thoughts.

I'm not a big supplement guy, myself. With that being said, I do use hammer products during warm weather training. I use anti fatigue caps, as well as endourolytes, and often during race season I use Hammer REM caps to help me sleep when I'm doing really heavy training. Everyone has their preference, and different things work better for different people. A well balanced diet is pretty important either way.
Ive had those rem tablets recommended too me by a few other people as well. How often did you take them?? Any side effects like not being able to sleep when you didn't take them. My concern was just that if I took something like that it might affect my ability to sleep naturally.

I don't use them all the time.  When my training gets really, really heavy (like 20 hours per week) sometimes I just cant stay asleep all night.  It helps me to not wake up every 2 hours all night long.  One of my close friends that trains with me uses them also, he says they make him have some crazy dreams, but I have not had any side effects at all.  It is all herbal, I believe.  Nothing too strong.  It's not like Ambien

I'm computer illiterate and can't figure out the quote thingy so

Regards to the sleeping statements:

My wife and I started having some sleeping problems/restlessness and we both started taking magnesium and it's really helped. I only take 1/2 a teaspoon a night and it gets me to sleep and stay asleep. last night is the first night in a month I didn't use it and didn't have any trouble.

We use http://www.amazon.com/Natural-Vitality-Magnesium-Calm---/dp/B000WVY...

Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement. The race has finally arrived and I believe I am ready. I can't believe how far I have come but it really is a great feeling to have accomplished the things I have already. I've lost 58lbs since I started this trek. I'll let you all know how I fare tomorrow.  "No stopping! Just finish!" will be my motto. By the way, what do you all do to sleep the night before a race?

Drink some water, lay head on my pillow, toss and turn, check the clock till its time to get up, smile, get dressed, then race and enjoy the day. Don't worry if you don't sleep well cause you'll be fine.

I survived it everyone. Actually I did great. I finished 3rd amongst about 12 beginners. I finished around 54th out of the 150. The results I photographed only showed 4 beginners at the time. The water really got me. It was very cold. I had to stop a few times to gather myself. Will have to work on that more. Not bad for only practicing once in the open water prior to the race.

my splits from yesterdays Duathlon - 3.2km - 17km - 3.2km

Run 1 - 13.04

T1 - 1.18

Bike - 37.02

T2 - 1.02

Run 2 - 14.14

Total 1.06.38

Overall about 3.30 slower than the first race - putting it down to the 2wks of flu prior to the race and a windier (and much colder!) day!

Awesome job on your races, Sal and Graham!

I just got back from an 8 night cruise last night, which I wasn't able to keep up with my regular training plan (no surprise there).

It's tough trying to get back into the swing of things!

Graham,

Remind to never do a triathlon in Ireland. It looks so cold all of you are... smiling!
Great job! Totally impressed.

Totally jealous of the cruise. I wonder how many laps around the deck would be considered a mile.... Slipping off the edge might be exciting though.

I was on the Carnival Breeze, and it was 7 laps around their jogging track for a mile. The first day at sea I ran a little over 6 miles ... which was what my training plan called for (1hr), thankfully, as it started to get really crowded on deck.

I had hoped to do laps in the pool, but there was just no way. Those pools are way too small and always filled with kids. I hate swimming anyway, so a week off wasn't anything I was too upset about

Sounds like a lot of fun. And on a better note you didn't get stranded out to sea for an extended vacation. Glad you aren't taking the training delay badly or being tough on yourself. A little fun is always good.

Hello all, I've been away camping with the Family since Saturday morning and broke free long enough to check Sal's results that evening, Again Great Job.

Grahm nice race and some impressive times.

Y'all (Texas thing) are making me jealous with the times you are putting up.

All of my workouts have been updated now, Got in a Ride before leaving and after returning, and was able to mix in some hikes with the family and a couple runs.
