New user 1 | Subject: RE: Introduce yourself: Georgians Hello Fellow Georgians. Training for a sprint Triathlon in late October and found this site. I've been a runner for a couple years now and am ready to challenge myself with a triathlon. Moved to GA about 10 years ago. While I live in GA, I'm actually going to tackle my first triathlon back in my home town of St.Pete, FL. While I have a lot of training to do between now and then, I'm really looking forward to it. Master 2638 | Subject: RE: Introduce yourself: Georgians Welcome FL Natalie! Hope your training is going well. There are a lot of folks from the Kennesaw/Woodstock area here in the GA forum and many postings for group activities (open water swim on Sunday) so don't be afraid to join in. I didn't look to see if you are logging your workouts, but I've really enjoyed that aspect of BT (and the cool graphs) and it doesn't crap out on you like the Garmin software does sometimes. Steph |

Veteran 206 Canton, GA | Subject: RE: Introduce yourself: Georgians Name: Duane I was 246 pounds in August when I finallly decided to get in shape. That wouldn't be bad if I was 8'9", but coming in at a whopping 5'7" that's a problem! Was doing pretty well staying injury free for Emerald Pointe but wound up getting patellar tendonitis 4 weeks before the race. No running for a month prior to the race, but still managed to finish within the range I was hoping for. I only logged 107 miles on my bike before the race so I really should have expected to be blazing any trails out there. I made it down to 215 but would really like to crack back into the 100's. I haven't seen that in 14 years! I went out a little too fast -- probably because I was so excited to be doing my first triathlon. I was in the second wave 30-34 men, and got out of the water 6th. Then, BONK! There was this monster hill up to T1, but who am I kidding?!?! I was walking before I even got to the hill. I think I took this race out like the swimming was all I needed to do. I was a competitive swimmer growing up and swam all through high school and college. Then, lazy town. Four children later (two sets of twins no less), 70 pounds (all sympathy weight for my wife's pregnancies of course!) I finally did some soul searching this summer and took the plunge. I'm really excited to be a "triathlete" now, and I'm looking forward to training this winter to get ready for 2009! I'd love to chat with some fellow triathletes from the area and look forward to meeting many of you in the chute! Just look out, because with my horrible running, you'll be in serious danger if you're anywhere near me!!! Looking forward to the new lifestyle...... |

Member 5 Mount Berry | Subject: RE: Introduce yourself: Georgians Hi everyone! I'm a student in college right now and after running competitively in much of high school, I tried to compete at the college level. After suffering 5 stress fractures during my first 2 years and running maybe 10 races during both track and cross combined I gave up on running competitively in college. After I gaining 30 lbs over a 7 month span, I decided that I can't live like this or I'd become overweight and obese in no more than 10 years down the road. I have a couple of friends who would use cycling as a recreation or exercise when they couldn't run with the team, and it seemed like they were having lots of fun cycling. I've decided that maybe a triathlon program would be really cool to do. The mileage for running is much lower than collegiate runners train on, and the benefits with the cycling and swimming seem to be really beneficial to getting fit. I'm hoping to do a sprint triathlon next spring and possibly get up to the Half-Ironman distance late in the season next year (Sept.). Any advice on swimming is definitely welcome. I am getting help from my friends with the cycling aspect of the sport, but the swimming is by far the toughest discipline for me right now. I am tired after only 50 meters and I don't know the proper technique to come up to breathe while swimming forward and not stopping. CJ ReedEdited by creed 2008-10-13 8:06 PM |

2 | Subject: RE: Introduce yourself: Georgians Name: Tommy Chambers I did a training run (10.5 miles) this past weekend at a little known 50k event in Milledgeville called the Bartram Forest Winter Run. The downpours made it very difficult conditions on part of the trail but something about it sparked interest....thats all i will say about that (Forest Gump). |
