adamo - 2007-02-23 8:17 AM Hi Guys, I'm back from our Colorado ski trip. It was awesome and the sking was really great. It is such a fun workout. I am battling some chest congestion and haven't been able to work out the last couple of days. I am going to hop on the treadmill today and at least get a walk in. Sounds like everyone is doing great, keep up the good work. Buddah, any luck with adjusting your stride? Have you considered a gait analysis? I'm not sure that it would help, but it might be worth checking into.

Kim,

Where?  I was in Aspen for two night over this past weekend?

We'll see if this works. Here's my dream bike that I'm making my wife buy me after I get down to 190. If it doesn't work its a Quintana Roo Caliente.

Tyler,

We were in Frisco. We skied at Copper mountain the first day...tons of long lines. The second day we tried a little mom and pop place near Leadville called Ski Cooper. No lines and tons of powder, we had a blast.
It was also nice to get above freezing temps finally!

I have pics posted on my blog: www.the-road-to-tri.blogspot.com

Ran outside today for the first time in about 3 weeks. Ran 7.42 miles in 1:07, felt pretty good for the first 4 miles than started to get tired but had to finish to get back to the car. Hopefully will continue to warm up so I can get more runs outside. Swimming tomorrow to help loosen me up after the long run.

Thats awsome PGilger, it's amazing how much your attitude changes once you can get outside and run isn't it? Hopefully some day I can run at your pace.

Thanks Buddaaha. You know you are right with the weather. Little warmer and the sun shinning and it feels great to get outside.

I wish I could only run faster on shorter runs. My speed si the same if I run 3 miles or 7 miles. Would like to be able to go faster on shorter runs but not able to.

Heading to the pool for a relaxing swim and looking to soak in the whirlpool to help my sore muscles from running yesterday.

Everyone keep up the training.

Next Question.

I'm trying to put together a trainging schedule for an Ironman. The event I want to do is in June of 2008 so thats almost 16 months. Is it too soon to start so maybe I should just work on my base of which I basicly have none? Or can I follow the schedule of adding 10% per week to everything I do with every fourth week going back 40%?

By the way the funny thing about my screen name is I misspelled Buddha when I signed up for it and now I don't think anyone has spelled it the way I have, including me, in any message.

official weigh-in this morning. 226.8 Down 4.4 for the week. Finally seeing a good drop, hope I don't get any of that back this week.

George.

Edit: 226.8 not 236.8

Great jpb on the weight loss. As someone who is also losing weight, I know how hard it is.

Tyler and Buddah,
I got the DVD's this afternoon. Thanks! I will start watching tomorrow and then ship them to the next person in the next week or so.

Buddah, were you able to watch all of them? There are a lot. I can't wait to jump in and start watching them.

I am also working on losing some weight. Lately I've been staying pretty steady though. I need to get back into keeping a log. That seems to work really well for me....then I see what junk I am eating and how much I am struggling to eat all the vegetables that I should.

Thanks again Tyler for the dvd's.

50 mile ride two days ago. 25 miles yesterday.  TIRED!  Swam and ran today.  Ran to the YMCA that's 5 miles away from house.  Ran with my swim goggles and swim cap then went for a dip. 1700 yrds.  This IM is going to be HARD!

Got a college roomate I just connected with after 10 yrs of no contact.  Turns out he's in IM New Zealand next week.  SMALL world.  # 397.  Eric Reid.  Check him out.

Kim,

Your welcome for the dvd's.  Try the one titled EMILY on for size.  Grab a box of tissues.  You have been warned.

Purchased my first wetsuit, my head is spinning from all the research and choices. Did races last year without one and water was cold at a couple of them. My first race in May water temps were in the mid 60's last year so I thought I would get one to have. Hope it helps.

Hope everyone has a good week of working out.

Kim,

I watched about 8 of them then had a friend copy them so I could get them sent on the way. I didn't think to do that with the swimming one so thats the only copy of it.

Tyler

Which one was Emily? I don't remember seeing one marked that. I finished 2002 last night but I now have to be careful when I watch them they are starting to spook the wife. She's afraid I'm going to hurt my self. I guess my plan of wearing a shirt with "140.6 or die trying" on it is out.

Tyler,

You know now that I thought about it I remember seeing "For Emily" but it's not marked on the disk. It just happened to be the first one I put in and like a lot of them was a real tear jerker.

I need to figure out why I overeat. Was doing good until dinner tonight and was uncomfortably full most of the night. I wish I knew why I do that, I guess it'll be my eternal struggle and I'll have to be more consious of it. On my way to VA. for three days< I've decided I'm going to eat healthy the entire trip be my first test of will.

5K PR

Old one 00:24:58

NEW PR

00:24:25

WAHOO!

Ran with my fiance' Kelley at 6am.  She had to work at 7:30 so she came for an hour.  I kept going and was planning on 9 miles.  At Mile 6.5 I was just tooling along with HR of 135.  Then I just kinda figured I felt pretty good.  Me and an old friend have a little comptetion between each other.  So I decided to see if I could bust his PR of 00:24:18.

So I reset the Garmin 305 and took off.  HR right up to 160 and holding.  My LT limit is 178.  So I settle in at about a 7:45 pace.  I figure I can do it.  I'm hauling down Starkey Blvd where Budda and I ran.  Just before mile 2 hits my right shoe lace comes flying loose.  OH CRAP.  I keep truckin and the HR is about 170 now.  The shoe lace is flying all over the place and I figure I have to fix it.  I stop and tie the shoe lace faster PDQ.  I hit mile 2 with an 8:07.  Crud...

So I kick it up to a 7:30 pace.  HR now climbing to red line.  175 and holding.  I know I can maintain but can I beat 24:18?  I hit the stop button and there I am 7 secs shy of claming King of the 5K between me and my buddy.  DAMN SHOELACE  @!#*&#@  !!

Nice run Jetpack. Congrats on the PR that's hauling, when I grow up I want to be able to run that fast.

51 minute run along the Elizabeth River in Portsmouth VA. tonight. Felt good held mid to high 130's for a heart rate. More importantly I may be on to a fix for my feet. Left the shoes loose, at around 20 min. they felt like they should. At 30 the left one started going numb, so I purposly over flexed the ankle and the feeling started coming back. I think I've been holding my ankles stiff and not moving them causing the blood to not flow as effectivly. I'll test the theory again in two weeks when I hit a long run again. Tomorrow starts a recovery week with total times reduced by 40%.

George.

Hope everyone is doing well. This week's training for me wasn't so good. Craziness going on around here! But headed to a triathlon seminar at 10:30 this morning and am certain it'll help with questions that I have. Really anxious to get outside and both run and try out my newest addition bike!

Cheers,
Steve

Was on the road this week so traing also wasn't so good either. Looks like I gained a couple of my pounds back, will find out on Monday for sure. I was only able to run no biking or swimming, that hurt my calorie burns quite a bit.

Ran outside today. Very windy and very tough. Legs felt like connected to cement blocks.

Very windy today here in NC, we have 40 mph gusts. It was a little tough on the bike.

Came down with a serious head cold today. Knocked me on my butt. Didn't have enough strength to do anything. Will hopefully get back into it tomorrow.

Down one pound today. Thought I would be up, so I'm very happy about that. The gym is putting on a swim clinic starting next week that I'm signing up for. Maybe I can get my swim times down. Off day today.

Ok Tyler I have one for you. This is refering to the bike legs of IM Wisconsin and Coeur D'Alene.

Remember when we were talking about my choice of IM's for my first and I said I felt that Wisconsin would be the same or worse? Well, according to the Triathlete magazine road to Kona guide.

IMCDA - "The first half of each loop includes plenty of rolling hills and one sustained climb."

IMWI - "The loop sections are extremely hilly, with three tough climbs on each lap."

I think any IM would be a challenge, even Fl usually has high winds to make it tough. I just found these in the mag and tought I would share.

Ok, triathlon has officially driven me insane. I just signed up for a 10 mile race at the end of May. I guess after running that I can stop calling myself a couch potato. Looking for a finish under 2 hours. The cool thing is the finish line is on the 50 yard line of Soldiers Field, all the finishers come in through the Bears tunnel and are on the Jumbotron.
