Ooo!Oooo! This is the ONE weekend where I need to ride on SATURDAY and not in the morning.  Any chance of switching?  If I have to bike alone on Saturday I am probably just going to do Usery as I feel a little safer with a little less traffic, and lots of other bikers around.

Doing the 5K DOG RACE with Chris, I mean Caboose, on Sat morning...sorry! I know you have a long day of training Sat...If it wasn't a DOG race I would have brought my bike to TTL and rode from there. HMMM...any other ideas?

I guess I could get rid of the dog somehow and then we could ride...its supposed to be an endurance ride though...no hills.

Well, I would prefer a flat, endurance ride. But if I have to go it alone, I will just suck it up and do usery.  Maybe just 2 loops then the run.

If I could get rid of my dog too, then I'd be up for a ride Saturday afternoon as well.

Well C if we carpool and then head back out east to dump the dogs then we could do a ride. What if we do part of El Tour De Gilbert and then head north up Greenfield and skirt along the bottom of the Usery ride and come down Ellsworth? Make a big rectangle. Tanya did you drive up Ellsworth? Is it okay? I will go google map it but I think the shoulder is nice all the way up now and I know Greenfield is good.

Noth Ellsworth goes through some pretty dicey neighborhoods.  People with no insurance who don't care if they hit you, and lots of old people. Snow birds are starting to flock back.  (I used to live up there and my mom still does).   Might be better to cruise back west on McKelleps or something until Greenfield  to some south down that instead.  Just a thought. Not trying to make it complicated.

How about this route (joke):

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/map.asp?routeid=34439

I actually do want to work out a route like this. I still need to scout some parts and iron out the wrinkles. How does one get from the Beeline to Usery without going up by Saguaro? The maps and sat pics make it look possible, but those roads may well be impassable for a road bike.

This sounds good. I would recommend continuing on McKellips over to Signal Butte though because Ellsworth is pretty crowded and while the road is good down to just before the trail, it is a huge mess at the trail there. Sig But is way less crowded, the road isn't super great but definitely fine for riding, I have commuted that way a bunch of times.

SURE HARRY!!! Didn't even see that post You know one of the Century plans calls for a 5 hour ride...133 miles should do it! How is the Beeline Harry? Have you ridden it?

I know we have driven up to Beeline from Greenfield or Val Vista before. Or was it Ellsworth? Josh would know.

We could always just drive out to Beeline and do an out and back on it...could be fun to pretend we are doing IRONMAN!

The only option to get to beeline from Ellsworth is past Saguaro lake which isn't really a viable option on the weekend, even though it may be calming down with the cooler temps. The other way to get to beeline from mesa is to go up Gilbert road, it goes through the rez and intersects with beeline at some landfill. Not sure if there is a bikelane or shoulder there though.

Didn't mean to get us off-topic. Harry was making a joke with that route (although he is looking for something like that in the future), and I was going along with the joke.

Anyway.....We're talking about THIS weekend right?  LOL!

There is a SOMA pre ride on Saturday with a run afterwards. Starts at 0615. Bikeis 19 miles and the run is 6.5.

Any interest?

The SOMA athlete guide is up on the site.

Hmm, interesting. I didn't pay to do a sprint race.

Am I getting some of my money back now?  And howcome they aren't changing the half-iron distance too?

The loop is 18.X miles. I think for the quarterman you do a loop plus a little to get to 24.

They go with 18.X so that 3 loops is 56 for the half.

Also, be warned about the run. Do it from the lake parking lot, not from the Red Rock office. That is 2 miles away, so your 6.5 would turn into 10.5. Might be good for the half people I guess.

That's why I said 18.X 18.66667.

I just read the athlete guide and it does say 1 lap for quarterman. How did we go from 28 miles to 18?

Also Priest is closer to the Red Rock office, so leaving from there only adds about a half mile each way.

The updated athlete guide says that the quarter athletes do 1 lap(= about 19 miles). The original plan was to do 1 lap plus a bit to get 28 miles. Its now like a sprint with a long run.

I might do the pre-ride on saturday.
