Sorry you are still not feeling well. Drink lots of fluids, and get your rest. You should be enjoying this time away from the kids. Read, take a nice long bath...or if you really want to feel better - I have the perfect way - - - bake me some cookies :0) Hershey kisses are perfect! FEEL BETTER!

Does it count if I have already gotten my gifts. I got two Speedo swim suits and a Garmin 305.
I am pretty sure my hubby got me a new iPod, since mine recently decided to swim with the laundry.

Ummm, what else. He did ask me if I wanted a new bike. I graciously said no. I am new to the sport, and that is a huge investment. I need to have the bike I have fitted properly and see if it will work for 2008. Would it be silly to get a bike if I am never going to do anything longer than a sprint? Several sprints, but not longer. Atleast for a while.

A Garmin 305 is an Awsome piece of equipement!!!!!!!!!!  You will be amazed as how much that little thing will tell you.  I don't run or Cycle without it!  When I do my running notes, I will review how to use it.

I love my Garmin...I used it when I was half marathon training so I could go out of for a run and not really keep track of where and how far I was running...all I had to do was look down.  I am not sure if anything triathlon is coming my way...who knows with my parents...hopefully something good

As for food...coming home was a sentence to lots of eating.  Too many good things around and having to get use to training either outside or going into town to do it.  I also have to find a pool to get to!!

As for weight loss...starting triathlons and eating better, I lost 30 pounds and gained a ton of muscle about 3 years ago.  Now I have gained about 10 back but I am also not training as hard and I think the muscle is building up again.

Well catch you all later and have a great night!!

I usally do the baking but, since I have been training I don't want all those goodys around so have cheated and just bought some from the bakery here and there. I don't want to gain that 5lbs during the holidays to hard lose as it is. So just a little here and there.

You could always join a bike club, I know in our club we do some long rides and having a decent bike would be nice, but also I don't know what you have now.

Hey, Eric what do think the odds are that two guys from different parts of the country happen to be random members of this tri group have the same last name. Pretty odd. Mike

Taking Inventory:

It is clear that we have a very diverse set of experience among all of us.  Eric posted his strengths about 10 days ago. I just posted mine.

I suggest the following.  We should each post our strengths and weaknesses in our goal pages above our workout logs.  I did mine so you can see them any time you look at my training log.  That way, we can each know who to ask and where to best direct our own experiences.  As I noted from Eric, he is strong on the bike, I have noted several good swimmers and I am a good runner but a wreck in the pool.

Also, based on the PM questions I have had so far on running, if the group would like it, I will do a series of posts on running.  I don’t mind, but as it will take a lot of time, I want to make sure it is something the group would value.  Let me know.

I would love to share now because I will be bugging a lot of you for swimming help after I get back to AZ.

Food for thought,

Emerson

I like that idea...not sure what I have a huge amount of knowledge on but I will post or lead if I can.  I will post my goals in the goal thingy tomorrow.  I look forward to picking your brain, Emerson, about running and you can pick my brain about anything.  Good idea!!

I agree with Pam. Any running advice you would like to post would be greatly appreciated. Also, like Pam, I am new to this. I do not have much experience to offer but I am here to bounce things off of if needed. Maybe for a different perspective.

  • Hi Emerson!
This is a great idea. Running is definitely a weakness for me because 1) I haven't done much of it and 2) My technique is probably bad (which makes my knee and ankle hurt).

Also, I'd like to thank everyone for the inspires you left in my blog. Your well-wishes and comments were greatly appreciated.

Dad came home last night and is doing great.

Mike (Stilltri-ing) -- I think I read that you're still having trouble copying the list to your log. Let's try this:

    1) Put your mouse arrow just after these instructions.
    2) Press and HOLD DOWN the left mouse button. KEEP the button down and DRAG it all the way to the END of the code shown below. RELEASE the button. All of the code below should now be highlighted in BLUE.
    3) PRESS AND HOLD DOWN the "CTRL" button on your keyboard. While you're pressing the CTRL button, ALSO hit the "C" button. (So it looks like this: CTRL down, hit C, release CTRL.)
    4) Go to your Control Panel. Edit your training setttings, and click on Goals. Put the cursor where you want the list to be placed.
    5) Press and HOLD DOWN the "CTRL" button on your keyboard. While you're pressing the CTRL button, ALSO hit the "V" button. (So it looks like this: CTRL down, hit V, release CTRL.)
That should paste the code into your log.
    6) Save the changes by hitting the Apply button.
    7) If you end up with some links, and some code (like what's shown below), let me know. It just means we need to do some "clean up" work.

Ready? OK, put your mouse arrow here, and start with #1 of the instructions: -->

Keep plugging away guys. This is a tough time of year to accomplish anything not related to family or the holidays.  I know I'm looking forward to Jan 1 and getting back to a real plan.  We'll definitely have to help motivate each other to reach those January goals.  Getting back into the routine is the toughest part.

    Need motivation for January?

The Challenge announcement has been posted:
    http://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid...

I'll be running it with Beth (LastCall2003). She's away this week. She'll find out when she gets back... Hahahaha. (She knew it was coming actually. I'm evil - but not THAT evil.)

Emerson - what a GREAT pic! Can we get some more info about Peggy, Libby, Dan and Courtney? (Yes, I see it's a wedding photo. When did it occur? How is everyone related to you? Etc.)

Mike - hold on. Once I get up to speed with everything I've missed, I'll take a look at your site and try to give you some directions on adding "prettiness." LOL

    Dee,

The little girl in the center is our younger daughter who married the nice young man next to her on June 23rd.  They met in high school.  She is Courtney and that is Dan.  My wife, Peggy, the walking miricle, is on the left.   She survived a massive stroke 4 1/2 years ago and is the subject of my book project "Seeking Normal" and the short story "...lessons learned"  My older daughter Libby is on the right.  As you can guess, I am the old fart in the picture.  Thanks for asking....
