I think, for me, skiing is somewhere between a violent core workout and making my fingernails hurt. I'm out there often enough, but often skiing with kids, slower skiers etc as more of a social thing, as it is in this town. Today was sunny and clear blue skies- the way you Colorado folks have it often, I think- we are usually in windy, cloudy dampness with icy slopes! Today felt great and I was trying to hold edges longer for the associated workout benefits- still, by noon I was cooked. Plan was to come back to town and get in the pool for a workout, but plans changed when my 8 year old crashed on the way back to the base lodge for lunch- -so instead we were doing nose xrays and head injury precaution checkup at urgent care! Thankfully, he appears to be fine (though his ego was mightly bruised) just a mild concussion and a bruised nose.  So glad we are helmet wearers!  LaughingNo pool for me now, as the others are still at the mountain and it's probably unwise to have your 8 year old swim alone while you do laps! I think tomorrow's day off just became a day on, and I will call today my day off. Can't swim tomorrow, but can do trainer VERY EARLY or after work and that's what it will have to be.....

Just read that a trainer ride is 1.5 worth of a ride over the road, due to no help from wind, no downhills, no momentum etc. If true, I will not be decreasing my rides accordingly, I will just use this fact to sustain myself to keep pedaling when I feel as though someone has thrown me into a trainer induced time warp where I am ready to ride it off a tall building just to end the winter misery.........

Good for you, man! Way to get it done. Very inspiring. I need to figure out my plan for this week- since I am still a few weeks out from my actual plan, I may hit the pool every day (if I can- I know I can't tomorrow, so that's out) as this is MY LAST WEEK with a pool at my gym. Sniff, sniff. I am dreading having to ride to the next town over to swim, not to mention that they have NO MORNING HOURS, which is my preferred workout time anyway. Mother Dearest sneaking away to swim in the evening is going to make for some unhappy people in this house.....

Hope you all had a good training week - I did. Even though I was a bit sick, and still is, I managed to fulfill my weekly goals in my training plan.

Yesterdays run were hard, but the weather was nice, so it was a good run after all. After a well deserved shower, I could relax on the couch in front of the TV, watching the final in the European championship in handball. Denmark - Croatia. Guess who won?

WE DID!

This weeks training as according to my plan:
Week 5:   Mon          Tue           Wed         Thu           Fri             Sat           Sun
Swim:       0:45          0:30          0:45
Bike:                         1:00                           0:30                                           2:00
Run:                                           0:30          1:00          0:30

But as I can only go to the pool at Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I have to switch the sessions around a bit. This Tuesday we (“we” are the local triclub) are running a Coopertest on a track. By this test our coach can put together an individual running program. I hope I can make it, as the test is scheduled to take place at 3 pm, so I have to get of work early.

Looks like a very do-able week Hans...Weird time to schedule a running test.  Hope you can make it though!  I hit *almost* all my workouts last week - missed one swim yesterday, but that's life.  All I have today is a swim as well.  Alarm went off at 5am, but after thinking over my schedule in my head, I determined I could go this afteroon so I went back to sleep.  It was 52 degrees outside

I can't really schedule days because a lot depends on weather. My plan is to do:

75 sorta-miles on the stationary bike (40 minutes = 14.0 sorta-miles)
3 swims of 1500 yds each
12+ miles running
3 skiing
2 snowshoe/hiking

drats...missed my swim today   too much going on, and I am wiped out at this point.  So, I will have to get up in the chilly am before work to swim.  I'm not being a very good role model

Got up, got the bike in and some lower body strength . Tonight I swim.  Probably a slim chance I may duck out of here to ski- but a lot of planets would have to align in order to pull that off and as of this hour, no planet aligning seems to be occuring.  Oh, well....plenty to do at my desk.

Hope everyone is having a lovely Tuesday!

What the heck are we doing on page 2?

And go read my bike fit posting. Essentially, I feared I was hosed for $200, now I just think I paid for more fit than maybe I was looking for, with the fancy bike and the weird measurement things and the pages of numbers and measurements.

The worst part was the assumption that because I'd paid $200 for fitting, I was going to drop $3000 on a bike. Maybe that's what people do, but I'm still thinking $2000 and I want the fitting price lopped off the top.

Unfortunately, the best fitting brands for me are Cannondale (no low end models) or Specialized (one low model). I'm looking used right now.

Also know that I am weak and spineless and if he said this will cost your first born and a limb AFTER the fitting I would have said no problem, because I hate to look phased by money. The whole time I was crying inside because I still haven't paid off Christmas and my divorce and my new car and my move to another state and my Ironman registration. I'm not one of those people, I've never had credit card debt until this year. I'm 37. See, I'm not that person.

How is everyone doing for the month?

I hit my most time and miles running for a January.

Bike was a little below average, but the outside ride on Saturday helped.

Strength was seemed a little low for January, but more than I have done most months over the last 24.

Swim - well, I am waiting for Memorial Day for that Tongue out

Now to shake this junk that is attacking me and keep building in February. (may even try and join the push up brigade!

Kim - sad story. Gives me something to think about, as I'm getting a new tribike myself.

If I could only get a bike here in Denmark at your prices I would be happy. For the money you are paying for a complete bike, we can't get a frame set for.

Page two?  again?

We should be embarrassed. If you Florida and Arizona people could be here now- it is 15 degrees, the wind is howling and the snow is whipping around. Yuck yuck yuck. There is no upside to weather like this. Because it makes you do things like go to Bratwurst Night at your friend's hotel to ease your sadness. But, it was fun, and I stayed relatively in check.

Workouts today were okay- not terrible but not great. Got them done. One set of push ups to go. And now Mimi is throwing pull ups at me? Ok, Mimi. You're on. Bring it, baby. I'm not sure I can even do one, but I will start. Trying, that is. Will any of this make my chest bigger? Sweet Mother of God, I hope so. It's the only place I can't bear to lose. And really, I think I've just shared too much information. Must be the bratwurst. It's like a truth serum.

I cannot wait to pack pack pack up my bike and ship it to sunny Florida, which does not occur until March 28. Yikes- that is seeming very far away.

Have a lovely evening, all.

funny stuff!  I can only do 3 pullups in a row, after several months of practice it seems....start by doing reverse pullups - jump up with your chin over the bar and s.l.o.w.l.y lower yourself down...hanging from the bar will also build strength you never knew you had!  so bratwurst...did it come with beer, 'cause I can't imagine it any other way!

and yes, page 2 is despicable.  I have been swamped and it doesn't seem to let up.  I am not a good busy person.  I keep thinking it'll get better.  I think tomorrow will be good.  If only they had Wifi at the pool where my daughter has practice!!!

What about dips? Is that the right muscle group? Cause they have the machine that modifies the dips, cause you're standing on that little platform and it's counterbalanced with weights....Will they help a wanna be swimmer learn to have PULL?

And, YES, they had German beer (friend's husband is from Germany- the whole thing is the real deal) which my husband had, but I must admit I had red wine instead....as that is what I like when it is cold and blowy outside......Brats are not my fave but these were from an authentic German deli in NYC, and worth eating for a treat.

You will note, if you look at my journal, that I had no CHEESE today, despite some other possibly questionable food choices.

AND FINALLY, can I say that if this stomach flu I am trying so desperately to avoid hits me before I digest the brat night intake, I am doomed beyond all possible hope.  Pray for me.

dips are great too...for the triceps, which are used mainly in the latter part of the stroke, in the "snap"...just sit on a bench or chair, put your hands next to your hips, fingers facing forward, keep knees bent (or straight for more challenge) and keep your legs heavy, then lower so your arms are bent at a 90 degree angle, then push back up and squeeze the tricep at the top.  Poof, you are buff

mmmmm...yes, I think I would have picked the red wine in those weather conditions you have also!!  When I had the stomach thing recently, I puked up a spinach salad, which bums me out as I *used* to eat those frequently   So, puking up brats is good, as they aren't a staple   Hope it doesn't happen though.  Good luck Amy!!

Be Well all, and red wine with Brats, something just sounds inherently wrong with that (could be the cheesehead in me coming out).

I guess the good thing about slipping to page 2 is that means so many groups are active.

so lets see, pushups pullups and dips.  As well as core work, it will be a rippin' good time by Feb 29.

Ok everybody - needing a little advice/motivation .... I have only done 1 sprint race - an Xterra - though I have done the sprint distance 4 times now on my own - my training hasn't been that consistent however with the sprint distance I feel like a little bit of slackin doesn't kill me - probably doesn't help me get any faster but I can complete it -

fast forward - I signed up for an oly on April 12th - only about 10 weeks to go - I started out really motivated and sticking to my plan but due to work I missed pretty much a whole week - things kind of slacked back at work but the next 2 months are looking swamped - I am not as motivated as I was or would like to be at this point - but I so badly want to do this distance - the swim is really my concern - although I grew  up at the lake, water skiing-jet skiing and am comfortable in my ability to swim/tread water - there is a bit of a difference in swimming a MILE!

I realize I haven't been participating fully in this group but would really like some opinions/advice on motivations or suggestions to re-capture that drive.
