furiousferret - 2010-07-28 5:19 PM Anyone here have experience with kinesio (sp?) tape?  specifically Spidertech?

My Chiro is ordering some for my achilles and neither of us are sure how well it will hold up in the pool.

I found out my coworker will be out with a torn rotator cuff, so I'm on call indefinately;  lets just say despite the inconvenience the money will be nice, very nice ($$ cha ching $$)....we may be able to make it out to see the Giro de Italia next year    I may even try to do a Gran Fondo, but they are hard to get in.

I signed up as a volunteer for IMAZ, as a wetsuit stipper, bodymarking, or spotter.   Basically anything during race morning.  Under the special skills section I put in my nunchucks expertise, but I don't think they'll need it.  Who knows?

Ooooh, lookee there, 1000 posts.  Do I get a bt power poster medal?

I've used kinesio tape on the back before. It stays on, but not sure about the pool. I am actually considering IMAZ 2011. Sort of

I wish I could give my volunteer spot to someone else that wants to do it. IMAZ is suppose to be one of the easier IM's because it is basically flat. There is a slight climb on the bike up to Fountain Hills but I've ridden it myself and it wasn't that difficult. If I ever decide to do an IM it would be IMAZ. This year should be good because they'll have that fresh Tempe Town Lake water to swim in.

Curious how fast the IMLP peeps are in the pool; my IM swim time was 30-45 minutes slower and translating the times may help to see where I'm at right now.

Right now I can do a 10:20 for 500y and a 1:40 for 100y (SCY),  How does this compare?

Hmm... I can sprint 100 yds in 1:17 on a super wicked good day, but I typically do 100s in the 1:20 area and my IM pace was 1:30 per 100 yards.  I think it's nice to be able to figure out a swim time because triathletes are numbers driven... but no way could I replicate the chaos in the water.  Typically, in a 100 yd swim, 500 yd swim, 1,000 yd swim, or whatever, I'm NOT doing breaststroke at all!  In the IM I HAD to breaststroke so I could see around people.  That wasn't just a one time thing, either.

BTW, interesting bit... "cusetri" swim on top of the cable at Lake Placid and I *think* he swam UNDER the buoys and he rocked a 1:02. I thought that was a smart idea.

Going to do some swimming.  To be honest, I'm trying to depressurize from the training for a few weeks.  I'll still swim, but I think a few weeks out of the year you really need to step away to let things heal and prevent burnout.  Not a total shutdown but a change in your mental focus.

Whenever I get hurt and have to recover I feel like a lion in a cage, waiting to get out, and I always come back too soon.   I'm going to try to relax about it this time.

I'm also going to a few areas to look for a new pool to swim at; I'm looking for something with a more competitive and positive environment.  The local family gym just doesn't cut it anymore.

Would you agree with this philosophy or do you think it would have a negative effect?

I just learned that there will be de-fizzed Coke and bananas on the run course next weekend. What is the deal with Coke?  I am not usually a Coke drinker but there has got to be a good reason that they have it out there. I like bananas  but haven't trained with them.  I assume they are serving bananas for the potassium and they are easy to eat?
I am open to trying anything to make the run/walk more bearable.
Thanks!

Sara swam about a min faster than me at LP.

My logs are open to this group so you can see what I can do in the pool. Generally my fastest 500s are 7:00 and fast 100s are in the 1:15 range.

As Sara said, there is breaststroking, panting and zig-zagging going on in thes swim at LP, so hard to compare. But regardless Sara and I guessed we would swim about the same and we did

ie; pool times usually translate reasonably closely with swim times.

My pool time for 500Y is usually around 9:20.
Whenever i swim i swim nice and easy...im never doing any sprints. i spent the whole IM training just building a solid base..so that i could get out of the water in the MOP or even FOBOP...but not waste much energy. I learned to swim efficiently...so i could easily do the 2.4 at an easy pace and be fresh as could be getting on the bike.
I went 1 hour 15 min at LP in the water

PennState - 2010-07-30 6:53 PM Hey what is the group planning on for training this weekend?

This morning I am heading up to a bike path that runs from the Ontario area to somewhere near the ocean with the Saturday group I ride with.  Should be about 70 miles round trip and hopefully I can sneak in some intervals.  Tomorrow I have a 15 mile long run for the week.  I swam last night, but may again tomorrow after the run depending on what the wife wants to do.  Our 14th anniversery is Tuesday, so I better behave a bit if I want to see the 15th!   She is a trooper about all this training though!!

Have a good weekend all!

Thanks!

I beleive you are right about the bananas, and besides that some people just like them I guess.  De-fizzed coke helps some people with GI issues.  Others like the little shot of caffeine and sugar it provides.  I used it a bit at LP, but more just to have a different taste after a long day of gatorade and gels!  the de-fizzing makes it easier to settle in the tummy with out the carbonation gas!

BTW, I tried to do a 2,500 yd swim yesterday and only lasted 10 minutes before my left side started bothering me (I'm thinking I'm actually going to let this thing heal for once and for all!) and then today I tried to jump on the drainer. I was thinking about a 45 min spin and just couldn't get the legs to go around, it was a rough 10 minutes!

Now... I'm fighting off shin splints. WEIRD!

Tomorrow I'm bringing our chocolate lab furbaby, Halligan, to Ithaca to cheer on some tri club friends.  Who wants to take bets on whether I suffocate the little guy after an hour alone in the car?! He's a WHINER! What am I thinking?! =)

PennState - 2010-07-30 5:53 PM Hey what is the group planning on for training this weekend?

Getting ready to go on vacation to Vancouver WA/Portland OR.  With this in mind I have Tuesday wide open prior to leaving on Wed.  Think I am going to ride the whole IM WI course, all 112.  Good test of the fitness.  I have aleady rented a bike for the week in WA, hooking up with a multiple IM finisher for some training while there.  Turns out my mother in law has some good connections.

Wanted to get a longer swim in tonight, but the beach closed sooner than I expected, only got in about 20 minutes.  I have had one of my better run weeks this past week though. Looking forward to a build cycle prior to IMWI.
