Ok so – it’s been about 70 or so minutes and now you are eyeing that final buoy and oh so happy that person slapping your foot every 20 seconds will be gone soon.

(I’m out for a couple of hours, I need to pick up my packet for tomorrows training 70.3, drop my Bike off at Disney, and rush back home to start my taper).

I would have agreed with you there Erin, about 3 weeks ago. Would definitely give good swimmers an edge. I will probably be the only person wearing one now. Ill see how things turn out during this last week. Stil fighting this hip issue. I have done nothing but swimming this week, and my hip flexor hurts when kicking. Not a whole lot, but it bangs. Slowed my speed down and causes my hips to drop. Legal or not, I think I am going to suit up and stick to a light flutter kick and pull like crazy. Don't think I'll be getting hardware or a Kona slot with this hip anyways. Actually, thinking about it, same would apply even if I was 100 percent!Can't wait for the race to come so I can stop obsessing and worrying.


How sure are you that it's bursitis? Like, really? 

A year and a month ago I thought I "pulled" or "tweaked" something in my flexor or quad. Less than 2 weeks later I was on crutches with a stress fracture, even after not running at all after it started hurting. 4 months on crutches, (VERY undertrained for this race), still going to PT a year later.

Whenever I read stories like yours (been following on the thread) I get really nervous. 

Good points from Comet. Another thing to consider - I was out for over a year with hip bursitis / tendonitis. I spent thousands on MRIs (yep, it shows severe inflammation), X-rays (nada), PT, etc. Turned out to be 2 of my vertebrae in my back were crushed together pinching a nerve. Some sports tape to separate them, sleep on an ice pack for a week to bring down the inflammation in the nerve and I was good to go. Now whenever my hip starts to hurt I take care of my back. I stretch it out and ice the area. When I'm running and I start to feel my hip I stretch the back out and really engage my core to keep it the back stretched and the pain goes away. Just telling you this as something else to look for (they found it accidentally when looking for something else) and ways of possibly rehabbing it.

Wow!  That's intense.  Thanks for the tips.  I am glad you got back into it, you can't tell you had  it that bad anymore.  I got an x-ray today with my doc, just to be on the safe side.  No stress fracture detected, and he said the inflammation has good down a "huge amount" from last time!!  Bursa sac is really down, no pain no more when touching it, or putting some serious pressure on it.  Just some hip flexor pain now, bearable though. He said some more ART should help with that.

He gave me the green light to race next weekend!  I am done beating myself up with this for now.  I am just busting with energy to go, I havent been able to do the light taper workouts like all you, so I am GOING NUTS, especially with a house full of women and the daily DRAMA!  Going to be some major stress relief come May 21st!!Yell

Glad the inflammation is down, keep resting it and be prepared for some pain post race! 

I was in the same boat, I told my Doc that I was "doing Boston no matter what, even if I walk" (it was the shadow race in Iraq), and still ended up on crutches not doing it. XRays showed nothing, it was an MRI that revealed the horrible news. 

Again, REST and glad it's progressing. No need to backpedal now, stay off it.

Just got back from the Woodlands with my wife.  We did a loop on the run course so she could be familiar with it.  The weather is absolutely fantastic right now!!!

We were over on Market Street and walked past the Lululemon and they had up some frosted glass by the store entrance with all of the IMTX participants on it.  My wife snapped a pic, it is pretty cool go check it out when you get into town:

Ok so – now you’ve been at it for about 8 hours and you at jumping off the bike after a ride (a little sore but you stuck to the plan) – hand your bike over to the volunteers (actually happy to be rid of the evil thing – at least for now) – grab your run bag, head for the tent – change out, throw some lube and sunscreen on, thank the volunteers – run out to the cheering crowd – find a pace and do it in automatic – look at this as a catered training run with support. A three-lap run means plenty of cheering and tons of support. The hard part is over –

Had my first IMTX dream last night.  Not nightmare because it was just funny.

Checked in and was then looking at the lake.  A bunch of people were swimming in it and the lake was very narrow and gross - lots of algae.  Then all of a sudden, WHOOSH, a huge 4 ft wave makes its way down the narrow lake.  A few minutes later, another wave.  We're all asking what's going on and the RD said that they put in a wave machine to make things more interesting for the swim.

Then I went to set my bike up in Transition.  It was inside a small convention center, which I was all "sweet - FREE A/C!"  I was lucky enough to be assigned an end row with my bike pointing out.... at least I thought this was lucky until I realized that my spot was immediately opposite a structural column (like the column was touching my bike wheel), which would mean that I had zero transition space to move in.  But the free air conditioning was just too appealing so I just went with it.

Also: did my final bike ride (38 degrees - BRRR!) and dropped my bike off for TriBike Transport.  I won't see my bike again until I check in at the race on Thurs.  !!!

Started packing for the race. It is nice knowing that the race will be hot regardless of any weather changes. Not having to pack arm warmers, long sleeved shirts etc., has really helped.

Ok – you are on lap 2 and feeling alright a little tight but alright here in a few minutes you’ll be on the last lap and everything you pass will be the last time you see it (at least for this race).

yeah it is a dream - I never had a race like this - and i'm positive it will be a couple hours from now that I would be walking on lap two - but still....
