carrie639 - 2011-07-08 12:32 PM WOW is darn right!!!  Wondering . . . how did you feel?  Dehydrated at all?

Once I started thinking about it, yeah.  I grew up with 2 a days in football and catching double headers in baseball.  It just feels normal to me.

I still feel like I need to hit something every augustI don't miss doubles, 100 degree heat and humidity with full pads, triples were even worse.

Uh yeah.  And while my Dad isn't stereotypical Texas football dad he did say the other day.  "Wow, if you dedicated yourself to football like you do triathlons you may still be playing."  Oh really??

Yeh, on that subject, I am amazed they can pee while riding (some of them anyway), but do these guys every stop for for #2?  Or is their diet such that it is out of the way before they start?

And why don't these guys pee on their bike like IM's do?  Is it cuz its not a big deal to stop off or peeing on themselves every day will create problems?

They stop for "nature breaks" early in the stage (if you're watching live that when the cameras pan to sun flower landscapes or the like).

Good Interview with Crowie on Slowtwitch.

I especially liked this part:

ST: How would you explain your tactics on the bike and run as the fields get deeper and faster, especially on the run?

Craig: Look at my record in Kona – I’ve had a 2nd, two wins and a 4th. I’ve also won the 70.3 world title and placed 4th there, which came four weeks after my first Kona appearance in ‘07. I’ve won Life Time Fitness and had a couple of other podium finishes there -- against the likes of Simon Whitfield, Hunter Kemper, Hamish Carter, Andy Potts Matt Reed, Craig Walton and Greg Bennett and Bevan Docherty. I’ve won Chicago a couple of times.

ST: What does that tell us?

Craig: That you don’t just win races with your run. You win because you are the freshest during the run. In Coeur d’Alene I could have ridden 6 or 7 minutes quicker. Say instead of 4:38, I ride a 4:32 – six minutes quicker. Do I then only run six minutes slower so the net result is the same?

ST: I doubt it.

Craig: That is exactly right. Triathlon is about the total time. That is the sport. So you have to calculate that foremost in a long distance race. Ironman Hawaii now is very competitive and very strategic and deep with the talent. But it is still an individual time trial. You want to stay as close as you can to threshold the whole day. If you look at the best marathons period, or the best marathons in an Ironman, or the best time trials in the Tour de France or the best time trials in any triathlon. they are even splits. They are not crazy fast in the first half and then a lot slower. That is a silly way to race.

That's why I don't understand the way Lieto races.  Love watching that guy on the bike, but he either needs to improve his run fitness or pull back and save some for the run.

jarvy01 - 2011-07-08 12:27 PMMy cold has moved into my chest and now I have a cough.  Grr.  I have an easy spin this afternoon, and then I need to do some bike cleaning.  Tomorrow a.m. I am going to swim easy, then it's a race on Sunday.  Woohoo!  Hope I feel better by Sunday morning.
4 kids including a 15 month old.... And you're doing tris. Wow

They are 6, 4, 2, and 15 months.  Popped out 4 babies in 5 years.  LOL  I think it's been good for them to see me doing something for me.  I try to include them whenever possible, too.  Only downside is that my house has fallen apart.  With training and running the kids around, I have dustballs the size of tumbleweeds rolling around in my house.  My bathroom looks like it belongs in a frat house.

How old are your LOs?

7 and 3 - cannot imagine all those babies, 2 is plenty

Scary thing is that I wanted 1 more.  Husband said hells no and got a vasectomy

Baby powder ALL OVER.  It was so hard to clean up.

[/QUOTEToo funny. It is those moment when you realize the kids are quiet that you go "OH SH*****t!"

Yes, I have lots of those moments   I love their guilty faces in this picture.  Madge looks like she wants to cry.  LOL

Todays stage is medium mountains.  Cavs should be able to get his "fat arse" over the Cat 4 climb to contest the intermediate sprint.  The climb to Super Besse should be interesting, I don't think Thor is going to be able to hang onto the yellow.

Did you see the split screen they showed this morning on the telecast? Cav had the SAME EXACT expression when he won at the same spot in 2001 for the first time. Looked like someone just put him in a different helmet and jersey!

ribs and potato's are cooking, volunteered at the mini mossman today, the kids have so much fun!!!!  Parents are mostly tools though, lol

Kell, if i could sprint like Cav, i would not be here, lol

There is no doubting he is THE man when it come to sprints, and i especially like the fact that he thanks ALL his teammates for the wins, it is never just one man, even in BS club races like i do, without the help of my teammates i would not have near the success i have had this year, and it speaks volumes about Cav as a racer and person in how he thanks all of them. You always just love to hate winners, it is the nature of man, look at Jeff Gordon for all those years in NASCAR.

But no, i would not hold Cav's wheel or the guy in 198th spot for more than 30 seconds, they are that incredible of athletes and bike riders. Their sprints are WAY WAY beyond what any normal person can comprehend, even me......

Yeah, I think he planned it.  Shaun gets mad because when we're doing easy rides I like to practice my Cav finish line poses (my favorite is the call me from Stage 3 in 2009) and Shaun yells that I'm going to fall off the bike.  I think he's just jealous that I can ride with no hands.

My grand daughter did great for her first Jr tri. She struggled on the swim, but she had a life jacket for river running, not swimming and came in last, but she kicked it on the bike and the run and took third in her ag. I wish I was that strong on my run off the bike. She is the one in the back in the swim photo in the big orange life jacket.

She is a natural athlete that loves competing as you can see by the grin on her face. SHe has bee practicing for a year since she watched me do mine. I watched her take off on her run off the bike and she looked so comfortable. SHe has a very natural running stride as well.

If only I would do as well next week
