lesleyann - 2010-04-05 9:20 PM does the trainer count or does it have to be road miles???

600 this month would be awesome, I'll be a bit short.  I get to try the trainer this weekend.  X-ray shows the bone is healing but not fully healed.

i still have plenty of time, i still have plenty of time, i still have plenty of time, i still have plenty of time, i still have plenty of time

Gosh, this thread moves fast - lots to catch up on!

Maybe next month I'll come in for a bike mileage challenge but in a few days time I start tapering for NOLA 70.3 and then after that hopefully a week off or easy so there's no way I'll come close this month (it sure is nice looking forward to a break though)

And on the goggle front I have big problems with goggle marks.  Womens vanquishers are what I wear because I can wear them really loose and they are better than the others and I still get huge marks.  (to the extent other mothers comment who are sitting on the opposite side of a kids size baseball field!)
I recently bought some speedo air seal tri mirror - cos they looked cool but they are so much bigger than my vanquishers that I haven't tried them out in the pool yet.

Fred

I had a mentor group last April - although I aimed at complete newbies.  It was a lot of fun being able to motivate people and answer questions.  Ron will approve you I'm sure

Damn straight the Drainer counts!!!

Does this mean you are going to set the resistance low and average 26 mph on your trainer rides ? Lol

No, it means I'll just put my bike on a treadmill to rack up some mileage

PennState - 2010-04-06 8:15 AM I should be over 200 mules by the end of tomorrow, but the rest if my week will have no more cycling due to work and travel. Still, 600 is a reasonably attainable goal.

That's a lot of mules, Fred.

Just remember James, it's not who Rides the most miles --  Get to 600 and you instantly become a 600-Miles in the Month of April 'LP Thread' Bike Challenge Winner!!  Even if you get to 650, 700+ miles doesn't matter... as long as you get to 600.00 you are a winner, winner chicken dinner!!  And the goal is to help motivate one another.  It's not a head to head competition.

Kudos to all who have taken on the challenge!!  And let's try to keep our Swim and Run numbers respectable while we're at it.

Hell no! No point in putting in junk miles. I have a computrainer and keep it calibrated. If anything I will underestimate.

I'm IN!!! And I only have about 20 miles this month

You’re even pretty much starting off from scratch, when most of us will have over 200 mile by the end of the week.

Is some of the hate coming from the fact that you don't know how to use a GPS monitor?

Hey Jenn you have a Garmin?  305 Edge?

I can give you a crash course on it.

When you are you coming down?  Bring it and the manual.

And your bike and running shoes.

I use them. They are an aquired taste. Don't know if I have any fewer racoon eye episodes as a result though.  They used to make 'em with a little rubber edge, but I haven't found those ones in a while.

swishyskirt - 2010-04-05 12:07 AM No coach. Combination BT Beginner IM Plan and common-sense-and-other-races-I'm-doing-and-trying-to-incorporate-into-IM-training plan.

Hey, has anyone ever used Swedes instead of "regular" goggles? I'm so sick of the raccoon eyes look I've got going after every flipping swim workout now.  (I swim before work and I'm getting a little tired of the "Are you ok? You look like you haven't slept at all" comments). Someone recommended them to me. Anyone have any experience using them for swimming workouts and/or races?

Thanks for the comment!  I'm surprised I haven't been sicker since I work in a hospital and at senior centers... guess I have the immune system of a... jeez, not sure!

WittyCityGirl - 2010-04-04 8:06 PM This has been a pretty terrible recovery week.  I don't feel like I've recovered at all...my measly 4 mile run today felt like hell.  I just need a good P90X yoga workout I think. =) Some stretching, breathing and focusing would do me good.

p.s. Am I the only vegetarian on here??

I have the likely answer to why you are so tired. My guess is that since your body is not used to the high volume you are doing training for the IM (I'm comparing your training to last year's volume) that it is a little bit worn down.

Be smart, take an extra rest day if you need to.

My first couple of big training volume years resulted in me being run down and sick a lot.

Just my experience/opinion
