Hey Team,

Hope everybody is doing well.

KC, I'm no swim coach but you seem reach into the middle of your path (and slightly over). My swim coach told me I was doing the same thing and it acts as a 'block'. she said I needed to create 'superman' arms instead of diving arms.    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFmnJnmahLw   this is a good example of what I mean. Not sure if that helps or not, but I found once I widened my arm, I was able to glide a bit more and was less rushed.

Good Morning Team.

Awesome Vid Deb - thanks- great to watch and imprint in the mind.

KC

Just found out this wedding is gonna be held at Monona Terrace -even better -haha

tmoran80 - 2011-11-03 11:07 AM So I had blocked off the weekend of August 18 from the band so I can do my IM planned bike ride of 6 hours.  We just got a request to play a wedding that weekend - in Madison, WI -hahah  How sweet is that if I can work that out and do a run on the course saturday morning, play a wedding on Saturday night and then get my 6 hour ride on the course - and come home with $800 in my pocket (until I hand to my wife of course)

Great video Deb - As I watc this I am realizing htat I think I kick too much.  I am not kicking hard but more flutter kicks but I feel like i am constantly kicking where as these guys are barely kicking at all.  It is almost like they are using a pull bouy.  I am wondering if this is why I have had issues in the past with leg cramping while getting wetsuit off and starting bike ride.  I am using my legs WAY TOO much!.

Deb - Did you lose power last week?

I got back Friday from vacation and missed the whole thing!!  Bad news is I put on 10 pounds while I was away.  It was fun and it all tasted good!  Back to excersising though.  4 miles in 31:22 on the treadmill.  Pretty good since I'm carrying extra weight.

Hey Team.

Keith - sounds like fun.

Scott - I know you have a big week ahead of you - good luck.

Team - has anyone figured out how to use the new messages system yet? I am confused. Can someone let me know if they are having any success with it and if so can you send me a PM - thanks.

KC

KC at 1:09 of deb's video stop it and look at the angle of their forearm.  Your hand would be behind your elbow instead of straight down (im the same way)  Very  hard to get correct but if you do you gain a ton of speed.

Thanks Coach - I will take a look.

PS - those guys are amazing. I watch how they kick (or should I say don't kick) and the timing is incredible.

PSS-wow they hold their catch for a long time. I am guessing that is what you mean.

Hey Team.

I hope everyone is well. Who got snow today? Several flakes on the way home from work today - unbelievable - oh well, was bound to get here sooner or later lol.

Scott I hope you are resting and recovering well.

I need some advice (don't worry it is not about swimming technique Wink). That will be next week again LOL.

I have not really decided when my full IM training will commence (probably by late December I am guessing) but in the meantime I have been struggling with motivation to even maintain my current level of fitness coming off a very active summer. I have been busy with work, golf team, curling has started blah,blah,blah................. but that is all a bunch of excuses so I am pushing past that. I have been active but not enough and after a lazy a$$ day yesterday where I actually put on the work out gear, filled the water bottle but just could not get myself to open my basement door and head to the weights, mill or trainer I decided today that I think I need to at least schedule my maintenance workouts for the next 5 weeks, put them on a calendar like I did during the season and that may help me get it together.

Just curious what everyone thinks of that as a strategy? So each week I want to schedule 2 real good swims, 3 runs and 2 trainer rides with some weights mixed in. I think that should be plenty for maintenance - agree/disagree?

Thanks Team.

KC

PS - did a ride on the trainer followed by a run on the mill tonight.

This is just what I do, but basically just wing it right now. If it's too structured I feel like I have to do things or I get upset. If you feel like doing 7 workouts per week your looking at 7-10hrs so that's your call.  But I would not feel bad about missing something at this point.  10hrs would be great but I tend to focus on harder workouts ( ie interval on bike, pyramid running, and you can swim Ill pass LOL)

How is everyone else doing?

Scott I hope all is!

Anyone doing any trail races?

I'm just working through my body issues right now so training alittle off doing more fun workouts (heavy bag, speed bag, insanity/p90)  Hope to heal up in the next few weeks.

Hey Team.

Thanks for the advice Coach and don't worry, I will swim for you LOL.

Today is Remembrance Day in Canada and Veterans Day in the USA - so I just wanted to say "Thanks" to all our service men and woman in both Canada and the USA. To commemorate the day, below is the poem "In Flanders Fields".

"In Flanders Fields" is one of the most notable poems written during World War I, created in the form of a French rondeau. It has been called "the most popular poem" produced during that period.[1] Canadian physician and Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae wrote it on 3 May 1915 (see 1915 in poetry), after he witnessed the death of his friend, Lieutenant Alexis Helmer, 22 years old, the day before.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
         In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
         In Flanders fields.

Have a great weekend everyone.

KC

I thought about this this morning while laying in bed trying to decide if I wanted to get up and go to the pool.  After long thought, I pulled the covers back over me and slept for another hour.  Thanks David -haha

I am gonna get a trainer ride in tonight and just do my swim tomorrow morning and I should be good.

Have a great weekend everybody!

motivated myself to go on a run this morning.  It was great, nice weather, 3.5 mile with my wife, then 1.1 with my 7 year old daughter.  Best part, as she was getting tired close to .75 mile she started saying "Ok. keep going. almost there.  RFP."  I love it!
