Hi all! I heared from Bryan this am briefly. I believe it was snowing a bit at the start of the Half Mary in Disney....maybe thats why they call it the magic kingdom???? Mighty cold for this time of year.

Lena I am prone to shin splints as well and I use 2XU compression sleeves. I love them. ANy type of compression sock will help your circulation. I wear them at night after a long run. It really helps my legs the next day

Where are we supposed to log our training miles for the Ironman distance in January challenge?

I keep track of all my training in my log. AT the end of the month I will report my totals. BT keeps track of your totals by month and annually. I find it helpful to look back a year ago and see what I was doing ( or not) LOL.  Under each of our posts are little sub headings if you hit "logs" you can stalk view other peoples logs. If you need more help, let me know...I will do what I can.

One of the neat features of the BT log (I just discovered, okay I can be slow some times) is that you can export your logs to an excel spreadsheet.  I exported my 2009 logs and reviewed from day one.  Very cool to see how I progressed.  Do yourself a favor and don't just log your distances, also put comments, etc.  It will pay off later.

Swim class is sponsoring a swim video on the 23rd.  I have to be there, ready by 6:30 am on Saturday but it should be very helpful to see my stroke technique.

I too have been logging my workouts for 2 years, this is a GREAT service offered by BT. Gary, I did not know about the exporting feature. I am going to do this just in case BT ever closes down or something!!!!

I went running on the treadmill in my new wheels. I was truly excited to run, but then some pain in my Achilles ... not too bad, but enough for me to slow down from a 10 mph pace. This is so f'n frustrating. I really don't know what to do. I have been through the Orthopedic route and am still seeing a Chiropractor. I thought this was getting better, but it still lingers when I try to run. Anyone with any suggestions????? On Feb 4th it will be 1 year from the initial strain.

I regularly harass Dan about his training by visiting his log and "inspiring him" He does the same for me. If you dont log it...it doesnt count!!!!

Dan, sorry I cant help ya with the injury...I suck at being injured!!!!

Dan,

I don't know all the details about your injury but it sounds like an Achilles problem.  Have you tried a brace to support it?  Have you tried a yoga class that concentrates on your lower body?  A few years back, I was having a lot of calf issues and started doing Yoga because I couldn't run.  Yoga helped a lot.  I was trying everything and one day a friend of mine noticed my work shoes.  He asked me how often I changed my shoes.  I thought he was talking about my running shoes and told him I never go over 300 miles in a pair of shoes.  He then pointed down at my work shoes (that looked horrible and I had forever).  I'm in my work shoes around 10 hours a day.  They make a huge difference.  So I got a good pair of Rockports and I was slowly able to start running again.  I have been good since then.  I can't say for sure that the shoes did it but I don't think they hurt either.

Good Luck.

Congrats to Mrs LRR on finishing her HalfMary in sub-optimal weather conditions (at least insofar as Florida is concerned).

Took my bike to a professional to help set it up today.  Made a short 6 mile ride to see how the fit was and I cant believe how much difference it has made.  Sweet!

Billy - yep, a good fitting will pay off.  I am thinking about getting it done again in a few months.

Congrats to Mrs LRR!

Dan - BTW, you have to go into settings to find the Export feature.

Hit a distance PR today of 1620 meters continuous swim.  Very happy but between that and lack of sleep last night and I am ready for early bed.

Meet Hoke

My new bike

I haven't gotten a chance to ride yet... tomorrow after work... I can't wait

btw, Hoke is the chauffeur in the movie "Driving Miss Daisy" played by Morgan Freeman - An old Jewish woman and her African-American chauffeur in the American South have a relationship that grows and improves over the years.

I agree, nice bike, was thinking of naming mine hemoroid because it was causing a pain in the @#$, but now I will have to think of a new name.  I will post a picture soon.

Congratulations on the swim distance, makes you feel really good to see the improvements.

I still want to get together and ride.

Wow! nice bike!!!!

Congrats on the HM, Mrs LRR!!!

So, I have a logistical questions.. when someone posts a comment in your training log, are you supposed to just hit "reply" ... or, should you click on that person's name and reply in their log? Just trying to figure the PC way of doing things here

If you hit "reply" it will take you to that persons training log and their comment will be listed in the box...and you can write a comment or "inspire" If you just want to leave a comment in someones log...hit log and then hit inspire me in the right hand corner of their training log. Hope that helps. It took me a while to figure it out... I am anything but computer savy. I have been on BT 2 years and still cant figure out how to post pics!!!!

THanks... I guess I was asking more along the lines of etiquette when replying to somebody's comment in your log... somebody leaves you a comment, you want to comment back, what do you do?

Well I love the  "x new inspires" and if I see that I have inspires I click that link showing me the list of inspires left for me.  For each I click the Reply button next to the comment (not the Post Comment button).  This takes me to that persons log which I am always interested in seeing what others are doing in hopes of learning something new.  Usually like to say thanks and leave a message about their training back to inspire them.  I try to leave one or two a day if I can.  Not sure about how others feel about them but always like to get them and give them.  Probably a lot longer answer than what you were looking for but hopefully helpful!

Off to ride the trainer.

Very tough day - our beloved dog, Dusty, was put to sleep this morning. Fifteen year old pound puppy, thirteen years with us. Enjoyed the life of a king. Here he is on a recent visit to our cottage in PEI

Trying to be strong for the rest of the family - Mrs FBP, DD and DS are devastated . I'll do my crying at the pool while swimming laps over lunch hour. That way the red eyes will be explainable ...

Oh no. I'm so so so sorry.. I'm tearing up and that's not even my dog. I can't imagine how sad you are now. We had a cat back home in RUssia that I grew up with and we had her for a very long time, too, and she was a member of the family, so when she had to be put to sleep, I bawled for days...

That is a tough day indeed.  Making the decision to put a beloved pet to sleep is one of the hardest things to do.  They really are a member of the family.

FBP, so sorry to hear about Dusty... I lost my dog about 18 months ago, and I still miss him. I have a wonderful dog now, but it's just different...

Nice doggy paddle in memory of Dusty today...
