That's awesome, I'm really looking forward to volunteering for the first time at TriGirl. Not sure what I'm doing yet but told them as long as I'm on the race course I don't care

Nothing like bike upgrades! I just finished buying all of mine for this year at least What bars are you looking at getting? Triontherun has a bunch of used aerobar/basebar sets that you can get on the cheap if you're alright with used.  If these aluminum aeropads don't work for me, they have the vision basebar/aero setup that they said they'd put on for $50...

evondo - 2009-07-13 9:23 AM Forgot to ask... How was volunteering at the race?

It was fun volunteering!  My wife and I had a good time cheering the riders on!  It may have motivated the wife too.  It wasn't miserably hot and so many of the riders seemed to really like all the cheers and well wishes!

Ready for the century?  I am just looking to log the miles and spend the time in the saddle.  It is more of a mental strength builder for me than a physical experience.  It will be tough, I am sure of that...but I am only looking to avg 17-18, and just build the confidence of being in the saddle for 6+ hours.  There will be other opportunities to push the pace over that distance for IMFL in the coming weeks.  For my first century, I thought it would be good to have a supported ride to go out with.

New cranks felt good... much smoother.  Now if I can get new bars & a new Adamo... I should be on track for better time on the bike.

I was eyeing the vision base/aero set up... Fattyfatfat has a brand new setup that came with the new bike (never mounted) used other bars I guess.  I am gonna look at those and see if that is what I want.  If not, then I WILL definitely be checking out the TOTR offer.  Maybe I could meet you up there one afternoon (you and Mike seem to have a much better raport with them then I do).

Phew....and hooray!!!  I wasn't quite clear about that....thanks.   Needless to say my RR was updated immediately!  Work is super busy, so hopefully photos sometime this afternoon.

evondo - 2009-07-14 9:02 AM Being the nosy person I am I looked at those results and you did come in 2nd in the AG... The girl that won your AG according to compuscore actually got 3rd overall, so she got that award not the AG award Congrats!

KelliD - 2009-07-13 2:47 PM RR is done - http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=169214

There were some pretty good photos from the day, so I'll add them in later.  At the awards ceremony I was announced as 2nd in the 30-34 AG, but Compuscore has me listed as 3rd.....I'm thinking there was a little error yesterday Surprised   Nonetheless I'm still really happy about yesterday's race.

Today started off with an event you hear about happening, but you're never there or never think you'd be around to witness this happen.  On the subway on my way to work this morning a guy jumped in front of our train.  I generally sit in one of the first few cars, and by the time the train stopped (pretty quickly) the guy was between the car I was in and the one behind.  Shockingly, he was still alive....but threatening to grab one of the rails that was still live.  I didn't stick around and the police were clearing out the station, so I don't know what ultimately happened.

When the humans have taken on the trains here in Houston, they go to pieces... I don't know that I have ever known someone to survive that experience.

Inconsiderate A-hole... throwing himself in front of the train and disrupting everyone else's schedule so he can attempt to off himself... some people are so damn stupid!

Sorry you had to deal with that crap...

Just found out there was a 2 min error between the swim and run time from the race on Sunday.  My total time is the same....phew   When I came out of the water I quickly glanced at my watch and could have sworn it was around 15 min, so I was a little surprised when I later saw it listed as 17 min & change.  Lo and behold I was right!  Instead of 17:11, my swim time was 15:11 (1:44/100!).....this also means that I was running an 8:24 pace, not 7:45....which I thought sounded insane to begin with.

Good pic, you sure don't look in pain there! That's a hauling swim and still moving for the run too only 10s/mi off your 5k alone!

Nice pic kelli!

After reading your insane subway story yesterday I heard this country song on the radio that made me think of you.

The chorus went something like:
"God is great, beer is good, people are crazy"

Hi everyone.

Hi Nicole.

Don't worry Todd.  It's not going to rain...only like 20% chance or something.

It's supposed to rain here as well!!  It's been so nice to far this month.  I just jumped on the bandwagon for a last minute girls weekend away which was supposed to include a day at the beach.  Our beach day now calls for a 70% chance of t-storms.
