No, no, no, 10 8 oz bottles = 80 oz for 3 hr 45 min.  It still probably isn't enough, but I literally felt like I was topping off the tank every time I sipped (except maybe the first hour).

Nasty storms this am . ..  glad I got in early.  Sky is black and tress are being blown sideways!  We don't seem to get normal storms anymore, we get crazy storms!!!

I live in Houston and what is this rain you speak of?

30 minute tempo run this morning followed by some pool time.  Someone may have stolen my cell at the gym though.  Yell

carrie639 - 2011-07-10 9:07 PM And just wondering if you watched alot of races with Lieto, his "twig and berries" seem to get very hot (don't notice it with anyone else).  Is that the last stage of heat/overheat.  He seems to grab himself alot and pour ice/water down.  Seems like that is the last straw for Lieto before he starts walking.

I think he's just trying to pour ice someplace where it'll stay put to cool his core.  For women its easy because you pour the ince into the sports bra and it stays put.  For men, they don't have that extra piece of clothing to hold ice, so its stays in place better if its dumped down the shorts.  Think about Macca in Kona in 2007, his tri jersey was stuffed with sponges and when he crossed the line Greg Welch referred to him as "sponge boob square Macca."

It does make sense.  When I played baseball in cold weather that was the first place we were taught to put our hands to warm them up.  Insert baseball crotch joke here.  It makes sense that it would be his place of last resort for ice.

well, i am hung over, tired and sore, but it was a good weekend!!!

37th/575 overall, fastest bike split in field, ran a 5k PR after the bike (22:58),  broke 23mins for the first time ever.

Had a great BBQ and the last friends left at like 7pm, from 10:30 in the AM, Long long day.

volunteered for the kids race on Saturday, that is always a good time, although some of the parents are out of their minds.

Pretty much why I won't coach youth athletics.  Parents are waaaaaaaay to attached to their kids' athletic identities.

Ok I am a few days out from my race and I am mentally flat-lined. I was going to run and found myself letting all life's crap distract me and then began thinking of excuses not to do Saturday's race. I have never been a quitter, this is      p!ss!ing me off.  Anyone have any good motivators. I need them FAST.

i would say read the Maya Angelou quote in your sig line.

All the hard work is done, it is now time to eat cake and ice cream or in this case swim bike run.

Keep your head up, it will pass and you will have a great race day!!

Don't know when I'll get around to writing an offical race report.  My mom took 2 kids for the week, so I only have 2 at home.  Maybe later this week??

Anyway, I hate how this tri grouped T1 and T2 with my bike time.  Boo.  I would like to have those splits individually.  I must have sucked at transitions this time around.  I know I felt dizzy after the swim and had trouble getting my shoes on in T1.

Swim was 7:01 for 440 yds. (1:35/100) - no wetsuit - followed by a .20 run uphill to T1.  Don't know how long the run took me.  I was 1/10 in my age group for the swim.

Bike was 43:00 for 14.04 miles.  I think my Garmin said 19.5 mph.  Don't know my official bike time because it's lumped with my crappy transitions, so we'll go with my handy dandy Garmin.  Started off pretty slow on the bike but really picked up speed once I felt better.  2nd half of the course was flat, so definitely picked up speed here.  While my bike time isn't spectacular, it's better than when I started.  I've really only been riding a bike like this for 5 months.  LOL.  I came in 3/10 in my age group for the bike.

Run was 26:40.  I thought I ran it faster than that, but the clocks don't lie   My run is my weakest right now.  I'm just hoping it will keep getting better and better over time.  I left my Garmin on my bike, so I had no idea how fast I was running.  I actually liked it.  Sometimes I slow myself down because I think I can't make it the whole way if I'm going too fast in the beginning.  For a sprint, I probably ought to be sprinting it; right?!!  Anyway, I came in 4/10 in my age group for the run.

I was 3/10 for my age group; I was 10/88 for women; and I was 77/190 overall.

I'm pretty pleased.  I'm going to wear my wetsuit for the next race.  I'm also going to work on transitions a bit.

Final turn to the finish line:

Sounds like a great race to me.... Nice race pic, one day Kelly is going to show me how to upload pictures without it taking 5 hrs. Looks like you have some talent. Sell your a kid or 2 and use the proceeds for a new bike. Just kidding of couseGreat bike to run transition practice is 5x 5 mile bike/1 mile run all done at slightly slower than race effort. Do this a couple times and transition will be a breeze. Also make sure you're not over complicating your ts with buckets, chair, salves, clothing changes etc. Also in short course if you can run sock less and get a pair of Zoot or similar laceless entry shoes or use elastic laces so you don't have to tie the shoes. I use zoots and slather the inside with vasoline

Rudy and Jen - you guys are awesome!!! Congrats on great races!

I did a mock tri tonight put on by a local tri store - had a great time! It was actually my first triathlon and I am happy with the way everything went. I had a MUCH better OWS that I did over the weekend where I was convinced I was going to drown. My bike and run times were slow because I stayed with my training partner - I know I can do much better. Oh, and I can't forget the 30mph sustained winds that we fought out on the bike and in on the run! Fun times!

Thanks for the advice, Jeff!  Saturday my training plan calls for 6 x (4:00 run, 15:00 bike, 4:00 run).  Sounds like the transition practice you were suggesting.  Yes, I ordered some Yankz, pulled them out 3 days before the race, and found they were missing a piece (WTH!).  I'm going to my local running store to pick up some Lace Locks this weekend.  I think that will help.

Oh, yes, I ought to sell 3 kids.  Then I'll be able to buy a new bike, pedals (because I'm still in cages), a decent bike helmet, a powermeter, etc.  Haha   Nah, I'm good with what I've got.  Just need to keep at it.

Have you looked at the "pay it forward" thread in the classifieds section?  People give lots of stuff away for free (including a decent number of helmets and pedals).  You should check it out.
