Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So, what's going on in Diane's world... I took Hoke out for a short spin last night (4 miles) before it got TOO dark... it's the tiniest bike you've ever seen, and it felt TOO BIG! The bike "fitting" that I had when I bought it was a complete JOKE... Now I'm faced with going back to the store who did an initial fitting to decide which bike to get - then I ignored his recommendation and went with the FELT - he used to sell FELTs, but had a falling out with that company, so I was forced to purchase the bike elsewhere. I had confidence in his fitting technique, but I'm too cheap to pay more money - or I can go back to the store where I purchased the bike... I think it's a WASTE OF TIME... or I can go where I had my Tri Bike Fitted... I think I got a great fitting there, but I was specifically looking for a Tri fit and they do those a bit better than at store #1. sorry I'm rambling... just trying to decide "out loud"... In other news, I got the Garmin Edge with my bike, so I've been having fun playing with the new toy ![]() 1 more newsworthy story - I went to a Team in Training meeting last night - a year ago, I was training with TnT for my first Tri, and ended up having to drop out of the program due to my shin splints... I had asked to transfer my money to the Tri for this year and they obliged... well, at the meeting last night, I told them I can't run (again, not still) and if they could to transfer my money to the Century ride... I'm HOPING they can/will do that! (she has to call CORP office) If they can't/won't... then I have to decide if I want to go on (I doubt it as I'm the worlds WORST Fundraiser, and $4000 is a TON of money to raise!) I'll shut-up now... Everyone's training looks AWESOME... I love this group ![]() |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm dreading being exhausted when I start following my plan. I'm trying to build up some base so that I'm not exhausted during it. I finally caved and took a nap today. Fred, sorry about your dog. That must be tough.I need to get in some running mileage over the next week. Last year most of my cardio was running, but now I think I need to step it up again. Wish me luck! Edited by swimmermama 2010-01-13 3:44 PM |

![]() | ![]() Pete, so sorry about your dog. We lost both of ours a few years ago. Its like losing a part of your family. Dianne, Congrats on your new bike. Hope you have many happy travels together. Gary...so normal to feel exhausted. Look at your plan and see when your"rest" week is ( less volume). It is probably coming up soon. Your body is learning to adapt to longer distances. Drink alot( of water) and make sure you are eating enough. Now is NOT the time to deprive yourself of calories.Hope this helps. |

Also dealing with one of our dogs who keeps barking in the middle of the night, waking everyone up. The one thing I should have done is stretched my 20 week program to 21. That way I would have had a week to handle for holidays, life stuff, or just a rest. Will look to see when my rest week is coming hopefully soon. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() FBP, my heart goes out to you and your family on your loss! Nice swim! You sure have come a long way in the last 2 years ![]() Diane, sorry, no real advice on the fitting. Just make sure you are comfortable and ride like the wind!!!!! Gary, I will be starting my HIM training in March, so again, I'm not a lot of help! I did get in a 3.1 mile treadmill run this morning and Achilles felt pretty good. Went to Chiropractor and it even felt better! BTW (non BT related), I bowled my best game in a long time last night (264 with a 651 series). I am bowling Saturday in a local tournament and hoping to qualify for a tournament in Cleveland 1st weekend in Feb. The only thing about bowling is it sure takes time away from training!!!!!!! Bryan, where are thou???? I hope Florida warmed-up some for you! |

MSUDan Good job on the treadmill! Congrats on your bowling!! Good luck Saturday! Nancy---Wishing you luck! Diane I hope you get your bike fitting how you want. Gary make sure you take care of yourself...get your rest and eat when you are hungry! ![]() |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Gary, I understand what you are saying about being tired. I crave naps on the weekends but that doesn't happen during the week. I wish I had a great answer for you but am dealing with the same issues as you. Good Luck. Misery loves company ![]() |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Great workout today! I'm glad I opted for the nap yesterday instead of trying to squeeze in a workout. I posted yesterday from my phone while I was waiting to pick up my daughter from preschool. Unfortunately, somewhere in the process all the line breaks disappear and my posts show up as one big paragraph. How odd... Do any of you buy gels, bars, etc. on-line or from a catalog? I've been doing some price checking and I was just wondering what you've found to be a great deal. I'm still figuring out what my stomach can handle, so I won't be ordering in bulk for a little while. I'm pretty lucky that I can exercise with food in my stomach without any ill effects, so I can usually eat right before I go out and do OK. Hope you're workout goes as well as mine did this morning! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I got a bike fitting last night - and I'm happy to say that Hoke feels like a totally different bike! I'm excited to take him out on the road again! Maybe this afternoon, but I also have 1-2 long rides planned for this weekend ![]() |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Diane - fantastic news on the bike, have fun this weekend. SwimmerMama - Not too long ago I ordered Infinit based upon LRR's recommentation. Worked well for me but you have to order it from them (using it as a Gu/calorie replacement for my HIM). I also like Gu energy gels and bought some online (I believe from Amazon). Orange burst is my favorite. Moved my run from last night to tonight. Just needed the rest. Mav - looks like I do a longish run tonight, swim tomorrow, 2hr bike+swim Sat, 1hr bike +run Sunday then next week is cut back. Longest workout next week is 1 hr ride with 2 (yes two!) rest days. Thanks for help! |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Oh my gosh....I'm back....sorry it has been so long...I have some reading to do and will be back with my thoughts....I just wanted you all to know I was okay.... Bryan |
![]() ![]() |
Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have caught up on the reading....I have finally thawed out....Florida is supposed to be nice this time of year and it was frickin' cold.....sleet and snow....and some ice. I would also like to thank all of you for your thoughts about Debbie's half marathon....we had a great time.... FBP - in honor of Dusty I will be dog paddling 25 this weekend and I will ask each one of you to do the same on your next swim.... Gary - sleep, sleep, sleep.....when was the last time you evaluated how much you have ramped up your sleep in connection with your increase in training??? Yep, that's what I figured. So go get some rest....and as Mav said - lot's of drinking (water) and plenty of healthy calories (although you can get away with eating bad a few times). Be sure you take care of yourself - you are in a great build phase right now and that last week of a build is always tough. Hang in there. Everybody - I love reading about all you are doing....you all rock....and I love how you are all helping one another...keep it up. Nutrition - Gary is right, I do use Infinit - I have found the customization to be great for me to use for concentrated bottles and also to add sodium and electrolyte to keep up with my sweat rate and high temps and humidity. I do supplement from time to time with Hammer gel - my favorite is apple cinnamon - it tastes like apple pie. I would even consider eating it on ice cream...it tastes that good. I also use a salt tablet called Miracle Salt when needed. If you check out Infinit and want to try it, let me know and I will send you a referral, they often do a special and you could get a discount...or maybe I could....now there's a thought....LOL. Bike porn - I love the looks of that bike....Diane it looks super hot fast.....go Hoke go....Mav, have you weighed in on the color analysis????? For you newbies, Mav is our colorist....if you have any questions about bike color, racing kit color, helmet color, etc, just ask Mav - she will have an opinion on the speed relationship of the color. FYI, when were on a bus at Disney going to the Expo and this 4 year old little girl looked at Debbie and said, "I think you are going to win the race because you have fast shoes." It was a classic. I also got a chance to meet Dick and Rick Hoyt. They spoke at the Expo and then hung around for a while....I was the jerk who monopolized ALL their time - I had a great time....if you haven't seen the video or don't know who they are - search on YouTube for TeamHoyt I Can Only Imagine - and get a kleenex before you push play.... Keep up the great work......finish lines....here we come....be sure you report all finish lines.....you, spouse and kids count in our group....if your parents do a race, we will count them too....that would be coool. Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() How cool to meet Team Hoyt and great pic from Disney. Awesome bike!! Named yet? Red bike, christmas gift - there has to be something there ... My DS, Christopher, turns 19 today. Big deal 'cause that is the legal drinking age here so you can imagine what he has on his mind for tonight. He'll suffer through dinner at a local establishment with ma and pa first. Sticka |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Everyone's workouts look so great!!! It is beyond encouraging to be a part of this group-thank you, everybody! I'm so glad I jumped into this group ![]() Bryan, I'm amazed that you and Mrs LRR got to meet team Hoyt! How cool ![]() Was not able to do a short run yesterday and today is rest day before my long run tomorrow. I was hoping to do a mile swim, but the infant room is full at Lifetime Fitness-what with all the people still holding on to New Year's resolutions LOL ..hopefully, in a couple of weeks it'll be easier to get in.. is that mean to say? ![]() If I don't get to swim today, that's ok. My poor legs have been aching all over-a pretty quick start from doing nothing in the last two weeks, so I'm sure a little rest will only be good. Plus, my shin is starting to rear its ugly head again, don't like that one bit. I think i'll wear my Zensah sleeves all day today. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() LRR - sweet bike. Having a hard time with the really good boy ;> ![]() Freddy - Happy Bday to your DS! Lena - Ran into that today at the pool, things calm down but I always wish good luck and hope some of them make it. Had a great run last night 5.6 miles, great pace, great temps (in the 50's), only downer was it was not a full moon. Love running during a full moon. At this rate I will have a new 10k PR next month. Swam today but masters class was full and I didn't want to deal with that so I swam on the other side of the bulkhead and got in 1080 meter continuous swim. Felt good. Long ride tomorrow morning on the trainer (rain predicted). |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hopefully the weekend clears up here....I gotta ride.....as you might imagine.... Gary - I am always a "good boy" hahahahaha There is nothing wrong with a day off. Remember, you gotta rest to recover. That is where growth occurs. The stress breaks down the muscle and the rest allows it to grow - bigger than it had been. I cannot believe no one had a comment about my Rashtafarian Hair Hat....I really needed the warmth but you cannot believe how many comments a 50 year old man wearing a silly hat gets....it was really fun.... FBP - safe karma going out to your son tonight...be safe son, be safe Gary - how many weeks are you out from NOLA right now? Have a great training weekend - this year is ON!!!
