evondo - 2009-07-16 3:03 PM All depends on what you call 'ready', see my friend's training log natron3... he's signed up for the race, it might hurt him a bit but I'm sure he'll get it done

KelliD - 2009-07-16 1:41 PM Guess who's headed to TX!!!!  Have been thinking about it for a while and finally pulled the trigger and registered for Longhorn 70.3!  Giddy-up!!

That is so awesome, I so wish I could be ready for a 70.3 to do with you guys it would be fun.

Well you are right I could "finish" but it would be ugly.

Plus my oly on the 11th will take me 2 weeks to recover from anyways. Also trying to come up with an inticement to get a rematch with my buddy.

It's more like "Howdy" here in TX.    I'm not a huge fan of BBQ but it something you should eat while you're here.  FAJITAS and MARGARITAS are much better though!

KelliD - 2009-07-16 2:20 PM Yee-haw, maybe?

So excited, this will be my first time to Texas!  And TX BBQ...mmmmm

evondo - 2009-07-16 2:56 PM You need to leave that kind of talk in NY

Woho! You'll love the race and hopefully the weather is nice for us.  Guess I should actually sign up for the race already, huh?

Well not everyone can look as good as Kelli in a race. Here is what a painfull run looks like. But at least the finish and the bike look better.

This would be awesome!!!!  Maybe you John Cusak 'Say Anything' style???  Could very well be the highlight of my race.  And for someone who loves his BT, I do believe it 'Holding Out For a Hero'.

I don't have the energy to updated my TL, and barely have the energy to be sitting at my desk.....started the day off with a 15 mile run.  Used calf sleeves for the first time.... LOVE them....huge thumbs up!  It was super, super humid this morning....I'm gonna guess in the 90-95% range.  By a mile in I was drenched already!  Thank god for Endurolytes, they saved the day.

What do you guys take for nutrition during long runs/bikes?  I know we've talked about this before but I forget.  I hit the gel wall!  I had a problem getting them down on my last long ride, and if I had tried them this morning I surely would have thrown up.  I like GU Chomps, but I could barely even get those down this morning.

For energy boost after long bike/run, I REQUIRE a coke (no diet crap either). You will feel tons better after some of that sugar hits ya!

During a long run, I'm pretty plain... no food just water

For long bike, I normally have 3-4 bottles... one gatorade and rest water. Food for race day (olympic/him) is shot bloks (1 pack for olympic, 2 for HIM), for training it's really whatever is in the pantry... granola bars, fig newtons, rice krispes, etc

That's cool about the calf sleeves, I haven't brought myself to wearing them during trianing/racing yet... Do you plan on wearing them for your races?

Come on kids, I don't even have time in my schedule right now to squeeze in a 45 minute bike ride.  Unfortuantely, a trip to TX just isn't a possibility.

*Whimpers*

Not happy about that.  It would be so awesome to be there to cheer everyone on!

Kelli, as far as nutrition goes, I can't do gels at all either.  Burping those babies up makes me gag.  I like the cliff shot blocks, and for long rides actually like the cherry lara bars.  I tend to like stuff that I have to chew and that feels more like real food.

It would be awesome if you guys could be there too!    Boombox huh?  Do they even make those things anymore?

For my marathon training, I used shot bloks and they never seemed to fail me.  I would take some every hour (even without water if I wasn't by an aid station).  Had no problems at all getting (and keeping) them down.  I stuck to the basic flavors - orange, lemon-lime, strawberry.

BTW - Nice AM run Kelli!

Aside from a diet coke here or there at work I'm not really a soda drinker.  BUT, the other week I had my first post-long run Coke.  I feel like my life was revolutionized!!!!  It was like a wonder drug.  when I was done this morning I ran/limped into the first bodega I could find to get a Coke.  Thinking about this now makes me giggle...I must have been a real sight walking home this morning....literally drenched in sweat, wearing calf sleeves (apparently these look silly to the general public) and drinking a Coke at 8am.  Hehe

Won't bother with the calf sleeves for the oly, not sure on HIM yet though.  I felt a noticeable difference wearing with them...and they're a lot faster to get on than I anticipated.

So the float trip was last weekend and I met up with Eric and Betsy and we floated the river and had a blast. Eric almost got me arrested and we found out he is a sneaky thief. Betsy even agreed to do a 70.3 next year and I agreed that if she signed up I would too. She does make some good margaritas. I cant wait to see some pics. I must say it was great to finally meet some of the group and it was even better on how much fun we had hanging out from just being online friends. Then we went and had dinner at Rudys BBQ. Here is a break down of what I ate.

1/2 lb Jalepeno Sausage
1/2 lb Brisket
1/2 lb pork ribs
1/4 lb prime rib (wife only ate part of hers so I had to eat the rest)
a few bites of a pecan pie

Total calaries = 2300ish
Well good thing I ran my 5 miles that morning. Longest run I have ever done btw.

Trip was a lot of fun, can't say the drive home was enjoyable so next time we need to crash in NB after the river.

Hey now, it's not my fault you started chugging the beer when the officer said to drop it. I might have said "chug it or drop it" but you picked chug it

Sounds like a great time guys... Sorry I missed the fun!  I think I would have rather done that, rather than ride a frickin' bike for 4.5 hrs the next day.  I guess I could have picked both ~ but the suck level for Sunday would have been off the charts!  Given the consumption of food and adult beverage on Saturday.

I am planning on the meet and greet ~ cheer session in Austin for the Longhorn!  That should be a good time!

I was away from the computer for the better part of three days... and when I logged on last night to check the marathon registration... it frickin' sold out!  22K runners in 3 days!!!  WTF?  It wasn't 3-4 years ago, you could register up to the day before the race.  Unreal!  I have one other avenue of trying to get into the race - we will see how that works out... if not Austin will serve as my new course for PR and BQ!  But damn, I really like the local race!

Woo hoo!!!  Booked my plane ticket this morning.  Now I just need to figure out whether I'm going to ship my bike or rent a case, have it packed up and carry it with me.

Happy Monday all!!  I've been swamped and finally logging on now.  Sounds like you all had a blast floating down the river.  Love the pics!

Sorry to hear you missed out on Houston.  I cannot believe it filled up that fast.  It has to be some sort of record.  I registered on Friday.

YEAH Kelli!  Now you need to get Eric to register.

LOL!  Sorry, life & work were getting in the way of my BT time...  Ebbs & flows!  Glad to hear you got in.  Are you doing the full again?  I may be able to get in through the company spots, but if not, then I'll be going for my BQ'er in Austin.  I ran that course (half) in '02 and loved it.  The course has changed some now, but it has always received great reviews.
