I would agree that a slow jog or a nice 10 minute spin does work better than stretching. haha cant wait for those late 20s;-) to its one of those things like lifting, not really proof one way or the other, but if you enjoy it do it, it may help, i just dont know for sure |

Subject: RE: Newbz'z summer mentor group is FULL!!!! Had another solid run yesterday, avg'ing 8:28 for the middle 7 miles of an 11 miler. It was tough...but doable. Another 10 miler on Friday...and a 19+ miler on Sunday. |

Subject: RE: Newbz'z summer mentor group is FULL!!!! took my first off day in about a month today. I consider my Monday's a rest day...where I just swim and do a 3 mile recovery run...but today was a full blown "off" day. It's too dark to ride out after work these days...and I was too lazy to set the bike up on the trainer. I use a trainer tire because my trainer shreds normal tires...and was didn't feel like changing it out just for a 1 hour spin. Would have had to change it right back for my saturday ride too. oh well...a little rest never hurt. |

Here is my RR http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=231855 Sounds to me like a really solid race Jackie. That swim is a great time to start with. Seriously!! The bike will come with time. You're just going to have to be patient there. As far as the run goes...good luck. I have zero luck on my feet, so it's all you! |

How do you have the time!? I'm very jealous....sort of. I wouldn't want to put my body through the stress of that much training with no rest. Edited by jgerbodegrant 2010-10-29 6:04 AM |

I have zero luck on my feet, so it's all you! Thanks. My goal was just to finish and get a time to beat next year. I'm hoping I can see an improvement like I did with my sprints. I think I just need to get more comfortable with the distance. My goals for this tri next year: swim: under 30 mins run: under 60 (maybe too ambitious, but why not?) bike: average 2 mph faster tri808- Also jealous of your training time I'm still trying to cope with the fact that I am no longer on summer vacation and cannot train everyday like I used to. Halloween has been happening all week for us. I've taken the kids to a couple different parties/trick-or-treat events. Coincidentally, Nevada also became a state on Oct 31, so we have the day off for Nevada Day. |

Subject: RE: Newbz'z summer mentor group is FULL!!!! LOL... Being single, with no kids...training time becomes a little easier. And not all my days are hard training days. But honestly...I love training. I'll sacrifice sleep for training. I remember going to a friends house, getting drunk and then waking up on their couch the next morning with a major headache at 7 am. You know what my first thought was..."oh crap...I missed my group ride". And I wasn't concerned about missing the ride because of an upcoming race...I honestly felt like a kid who overslept and missed the bus to disneyland. |

Please hypnotize me to be this way too When you eat as fast as I do (which I'm told is borderline disgusting)...you don't taste food too much. I do like the taste of brown rice...but if I actually had to chew it in my mouth for 20+ seconds like you should...I can see how it would be kind of gross. |

Anyone have plans for halloween? My plans are to dress up like a runner and try to complete a marathon. I am in DC right now and really getting anxious to start the race. I have to say I am nervous though. I usually don't get nervous until right before a race but not this time. I have only been able to get 5 miles of running in this week and that was on Monday. I feel like I need to get more in but with one day left before the race I obviously won't be doing anything big. I think I am going to get a couple of miles in tomorrow. I hope to run the last 2 miles of the race tomorrow to get a feel for those last couple. Come on Sunday morning!!!!!!!!! I wanna get this thing goin!!!!!!!!! |

Master 3486 Fort Wayne | Subject: RE: Newbz'z summer mentor group is FULL!!!! The weather is perfect! It is looking like what I was hoping for for the race day. the overnight ow is supposed to be 49 with the high tomorrow of 59. There are supposed to be some 10mph winds but I don't think that will affect my running to much. I ran the last .5 to .75 miles of the course this morning and it doesn't look bad, except about 50-75 yards up a pretty steep hill, then it flattens back out for he most part. My 2 miles this morning was slightly faster than race pace but felt pretty good. Now its time to rest, relax and carb up. I have been carb loading for a few days now so I should be in good shape there too. ............Is it tomorrow yet? LOL |

My girlfriend just left to drive to cape cod to run the cape cod marathon tomorrow morning. She's also excited. I really have no plans for tonight. A bunch of my friends are doing the costume party thing, but I still have the sinus infection and the muscle spasms in my upper back have taken away the ability to move my head at all. I could go as a robot I guess!! |

I accomplished my primary goal. I'll let you all read the RR, which is posted, to read about my primary goal. As you said I didn't BQ, but I was close. A BQ was a goal but it was a long shot goal too. I was close but no cigar. This was the first race I have ever run to this point of fatigue. But it wasn't for me. Support our troops! Master 3486 Fort Wayne | Subject: RE: Newbz'z summer mentor group is FULL!!!! Thanks everyone for your encouragement during my training and in the days leading up to this race. I thought about this group of people while running (all you guys) and pulled from the encouragement and tips you have provided. David and J, you guys provided the input for my training to help me, either figure out how much to do or not do. All the paces and distances I ran to get this far were, in part, provide through input from me to you two. Thanks for the training advice. Again, all of the participants in this group provided so much encouragement to me throughout my training and racing and you all need a little pat on the back. Thanks again! This was my dream race!
