Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I love 2XU tri clothes! I love the tri shorts because they have hipster shorts. I hate things up around my waist! I don't swim in my tri clothes. I really don't feel a difference in swimming in my tri clothes or a 2 piece swim suit. I never swim in my wetsuit in the pool. The chlorine isn't good for it. About the saddles...I can't say enough about Adamo. My butt loves that seat! LOL The seat I had before that I swear was some kind of a torture device!! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Man it's great to see all the new posts every time I sign on. Great discussions about nutrition, equipment, etc. I too love my 2XU tri shorts. I tend to use bike shorts for most rides but always give the tri shorts a few goes prior to races. Got some great news from a friend yesterday. She lives out west in Edmonton - we "met" through an on-line forum prior to running NYC marathon in Nov 2006. She has shaved more than 45 minutes off her marathon time between then and now and in Phoenix last weekend she reached her Boston qualifying time (< 3:45). She'll have to wait though to register for April 2011. Finally have been getting on the bike in the last few days. Sebastian was feeling very lonely after months of being ignored but has welcomed me back. Off to see a neurologist today with Mrs FBP, hoping he might be able to help us understand what happened on Jan 1st. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Gary, I agree with you. I think you should cover the distance/time at least 3 times. This has worked well for me in running and was planning on doing that for swimming and biking. |

![]() | ![]() elcaminobill - 2010-01-19 10:49 PM What music is on your Ipod. Trying to find the right mix for the long rides. Please tell me you are NOT riding on the road with an ipod!!!!! On the trainer...not a problem. On the road , seriously dangerous! I do not even suggest that you ride on a bike path with an i pod. I have been known to sing on my long rides. During my HIM last summer I sang Oh Lord Wont Ya Buy Me A Mercedes Benz, and Here Comes The Sun. I am NOT a very good singer but many found it amusing I have lots of playlists for running and they are the same ones I use on the trainer. There is a BTer who teaches spin classes KOM ( from RI) and she has awesome playlists. She does theme classes...Woodstock, back to the 80's..... What kind of music do you like? |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Actually, I haven't on the road, but we have a 42 mile paved trail that I wouldn't think twice about riding. Should I? |

![]() | ![]() elcaminobill - 2010-01-19 11:03 PM Actually, I haven't on the road, but we have a 42 mile paved trail that I wouldn't think twice about riding. Should I? Bike trails around here are fairly crowded and I would not. There are often people with small children and dogs that come out of no where. There are people on bikes who are NOT cyclists and are a danger to themselves and others. The only time I ride bike paths is betwen 6-8 am or on rainy days. I am pretty strict about cycling rules on the road. I ride with traffic, on the shoulder when safe. I enter intersections with traffic and I ALWAYS stop for stop signs and red lights. When I do group rides we ride single file, only two abreast on large shoulders or deserted roads. I dont care how rude or obnoxious people are to me, I never do anything to provoke them. My bike weighs about 12 pounds vs their 2 ton vehicle...I will loose. I have taken license plates and reported people to the police. You can actually fill out a complaint in MA. I always wear my helmet( goes without saying), bright clothing and I have a road ID which I wear on my ankle that has my name and emergency phone#. It also has a website medical personnel can go to, to access health info about me. My husband made me buy this elaborate version after I had a serious accident last year. I think its a bit overboard but it makes him feel better. Cycling is a blast and I want to be able to do it for the rest of my life!!!! Sorry for the long rant...its something I take pretty seriously |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I never ride with my I-pod (actually I have a Zune). When I am on my trainer I'm watching the big screen with surround sound. I never ride on bike paths. I know I would end up running someone over. Too many kids and casual riders on the bike paths around here. I hear you Mav! You can never be too cautious or too safe. Just last year a local teacher was hit and killed by a drunk driver when she was out biking. Two days ago a friend of mine took a roll over the hood of a car. He has been biking for 12 years and this was a first for him. The driver said she just didn't see him. He is ok just bruised up. Billy I love music! I could give you lots of suggestions. I go to lots of concerts and love hearing bands in small venues and bars. I do music for my son's hockey games too! Gotta keep those boys fired up! lol In the next couple of days I'll send you some song/artist suggestions. Your musical taste may not be the same as mine but you might like some of the suggestions. Hoping all is well with Mrs. FBP! |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() +1 on not riding with music outside. Trainer yes, outside never. As for music, I have very wide range of music on my shuffle. Everything from Celtic woman to Justin Timberlake to AC/DC. I can plug it into my trucks stereo so that is pretty much all I listen to (last thing I need to hear in the morning is some talk radio bubble head or a DJ pulling another prank, yep I am a bit grumpy in the morning). |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I live by my Ipod on the treadmill and spinning bike and I will even wear it sometimes on a run but haven't worn it on my bike. I not that strict though at following the rules of the road but I have to admit, I have blown a few stop signs and lights in my time. |

Member![]() ![]() | ![]() I need to vent. I get up early to workout. the alarm goes off at 4:40 AM generally. enough time to get to the gym, grab a bike, and start warming up for spin class by 5:15. this morning I get there at my normal time to find that all 35 bikes are occupied. I was mad beyond belief. Does this happen to anyone else? |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Home from the doctor visit, not good. Stress fracture in my right foot. NO running for 4 to 6 weeks. I am already in pretty good running shape so that doesn't really worry me. I will have to miss the Rock n Roll marathon in New Orleans. Thats a tough one to swallow. I actually teared up when he said that to me. Hard to believe I even care about my goals that much, am I sick? Must remain focused on the bigger picture! HIM in June and the Louisville in August. Doctor said he would have me ready for June race. My plans are to substitute my running with doubling up on the bike. Any ideas? Does this sound ok? Billy Roll |

![]() | ![]() SO sorry to hear about your stress fracture. In order for it to heal they usually dont want you to weight bear. Did he put you in any type of air cast? ANy physical therapy? I feel your disappointment I had to drop out of Boston this year. DO what you need to do to get better. Not worth risking your long term health. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Said I could ride and swim, no therapy and no cast. Go back to be reevaluated in 4 weeks. I will do exactly what he said........No Running! |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Billy - ouch! Bummer about the foot but could be worse. Surprised that biking is still okay but if the Dr says so then you are set. Good chance to work on the other two sports. Once your set we will need to meet to ride. Walker - Ran into that a couple of times with the pool and the New Years resolutionists. MarmaDaddy had a great post on this. Main things to remember is that it will not last long, we can only hope that people remain committed (always love to see people succeed), and the ones that don't their year membership fees help keep your membership fees down. Good swim today and decent ride tonight. I am pretty sure my cadence sensor is crediting me with slightly faster speeds. Did anyone see the video on Tri Talk forum about the TI clinic? Interesting part to me was the change in the angle of her stroke. Spearing downwards, is this part of the TI swim downhill concept? Anyone here swim like that? |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've found our cycling classes fill up about 20-25 minutes before class this time of year. Luckily my schedule is pretty flexible, so I go to the less popular classes (as long as I can stomach the instructor)... |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Billy - so sorry about your stress fracture, I've had too many DNS's to count due to shin splints & stress fractures... give your foot time to heal... deep water running is a good substitute for running, you can find info here:http://sportsmedicine.about.com/cs/conditioning/a/aa032002a.htm or just google "deep water running" the trick is to have deep enough water so that your feet do not touch the bottom of the pool - easy for me at 5'0" but challenging for most taller people... doubling up on the bike may cause other muscles issues, but I'll let Bryan chime in on that. Gary - I didn't see that TI clinic thing, but I know in my swimming lessons, they have us dig deep on entry. ended up with unscheduled rest day yesterday - Swim after work today... it's raining all week here - something different in Las Vegas. |
