More so then i ever thought it would be, so thanks for the additional info. OK.... As someone who doesn't stretch at all.... Why stretch? Does it help with post workout soreness? (That's the only thing I can think of. So maybe I've never worked out hard enough to need to do this. LOL)
Stretching: When you work out and muscles get put under stress one of their reactions is to tigthen... after awhile they dont loosen up as much and stay tight.... This will pull body parts out of alignment and cause injuries.... because other muscles will start to compensate for the tight muscles and it will affect how you move. Also if muscles are held in a certain position (ie high heels) over time they will tighten to fit the position they are used to... Stretching keeps the muscles supple and your body in good alignement (among other things) and Im sure someone who understands all this better than me will explain it beter That's an excellent explanation Cat. One thing I will add is to be careful not to overstretch. Overstretching is just as bad as not stretching at all. I had to skip two workouts this week because I was trying to stretch my body to places it's never been and made my muscles VERY unhappy. Stretching is important, but it's supposed to feel good, not hurt. I know. duh. |

Oh! You look DARLING, dah-ling! Although I'm still getting you a purse that matches the kilt, not the hat. This seems a might crazy. But I think I can do it. First 3k Run: The initial 3k takes place at Rattlesnake Bar Park, the site of the swim venue. The 3k run will start at 7:15am. The course will proceed for .5-mile on the nearly flat main paved park road towards park exit, then fork left at the stop sign Y intersection (bikes turn right to leave park) onto a dirt road that follows the lakeshore, also nearly flat but with curvy. At the far end of the course (.9 mi), you will turn onto the Pony Express Trail and head back towards the finish line. This is a single to double track trail where passing is simple for most of the way. This trail features numerous ups and downs, eventually reaching some 60 feet higher than the starting line near lake level. The footing is good at all times. With a quarter-mile to go, you will pop out into the large horse staging parking lot, descend to the park road and complete the final .1 mi to the transition area. Take your time and enjoy a good warmup for the next two events. If the winner of the initial 3k fails to finish in the top-10 overall, he will receive a special award of a white dunce cap and a stack of temporary tatoos that say, "poser". Note: This is a two-transition race - you will need two pairs of shoes! Click Here for a satellite map of the 3k run course. 56-Mile Bike Ride: You will follow the World's Toughest Half route from Rattlesnake Bar to T2 at the Auburn Overlook in Auburn. From Rattlesnake Bar at elev. 466', you will top out at elev. 2,200' by mile 31, then losing elevation for the final 25 miles to reach the Overlook at elev. 1,350'. This is an incredibly scenic and challenging course that will test all aspects of your cycling ability. Total climbing is ~6,000'. Click Here for extensive details about the 56-mile bike course. 13.1 Mile Run: You will proceed on the World's Toughest Half 13.1 mile run course - a scenic and challenging 50/50 trail&pavement mix in the Auburn State Park. Note: loops will be reversed from past years in 2008. Enjoy the tranquility of a course completely closed to auto traffic and affording stunning canyon views at seemingly every turn. There are two tough climbs - the Cardiac Bypass (mile 3 to 4.2) and the epic finish up the notorious Dam Wall (mile 11.6 to 13.1). The rest of the course consists of sustained gradual paved descent from mile 0-3, dead flat shaded canal trail (mile 4.2 to 6.2) or single track/fire road with mild rolling hills or gradual ascent/descent (mile 6.2 to 11) or steep trail descent (11 to 11.6). About 1.5 miles of the trail can be considered technical, with the rest smooth wide fire road or very old paved road. This spectator-friendly course passes through finish area at mile 6.2. Total climbing is 1,325'. Click here for complete 13.1 mile run course details, including written description, one of the coolest BK hand-drawn maps of all time and an elevation profile.
YIKES - What a race! Looks like the back portion of the bike will give your legs a little rest for the 1/2 mary. Looks like a really cool race. Good luck! |
