Total Time = 1h 31m 42s
Overall Rank = 257/316
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 22/23
Pre-race routine:

Ate a peanut butter/jelly bagel and had some gatorade/water mix. Drove 40 minutes to race location.
Event warmup:

Walked around for a bit and swam about 75-100 meters. Was very nervous as this was my first Triathlon ever.
Swim
  • 08m 58s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 14s / 100 meters
Comments:

I was very nervous starting out and didn't know what to expect. I started near the middle and back of the pack. I've been practicing freestyle and breathing but that all went out the window when the event started. It was too crowded to do freestyle and I kept bumping into people.
What would you do differently?:

More open water swim practice.
Transition 1
  • 05m 5s
Comments:

Well I don't have a race number belt so I safety pinned the number to my shirt before the race and ended up pinning it through both front and back without realizing it. It took me a good 30 seconds to a minute to undo it and repin it. Lessons learned.
What would you do differently?:

Learn from my mistakes.
Bike
  • 41m 59s
  • 10 miles
  • 14.39 mile/hr
Comments:

I didn't get off and walk at any point but I was very close. Got passed a lot and couldn't seem to get into a rhythm until the last mile or two. Also had some issues with my gears that I will chalk up to needing more practice. I've only ridden a road bike three times prior to this race.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more and practice hills.
Transition 2
  • 02m 12s
Comments:

My legs felt like jello so I walked the bike into transition and walked out to start the run.
Run
  • 33m 30s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

Was rough starting out but by mile 2 I got into a little bit of a groove after walking a lot in mile 1. My best stand alone 5k is 28 minutes so I wasnt too disappointed with this time.
What would you do differently?:

Train more.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and snacked on some food.

Event comments:

It was my first Triathlon but it went smoothly and everything was very well organized and set up. I would definitely recommend this event to anyone experienced or their first time. Looking forward to my next one!

I'm not quite half way into my IM training. I just raced a sprint and on Monday I woke up and felt like I'd been drugged! Not sore, just incredibly fatigued.

If you haven’t done any bricks yet, this isn’t the time to start piling them on, but here are some examples you could do in the lead up to your race.
