Subject: Best Tri shops in CT - For Wetsuit

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a Tri shop with a large wetsuit selection in CT?  I'd like to try on a few brands before making a decision and will start with a 2 piece suit most likely because my upper body is on the above average side.

Thanks!

Jason

There really is'nt much to choose from in CT You can try Pigiron in Glastonbury or I would shoot up to Fastsplits in Newton Mass.

Due to the lack of wetsuits in the area, I went online.  I bought an Orca from All3sports.comm and a 2XU from Trisports (I think).   Both times I did a lot of researching into sizing and it worked both times.  Most of these places have really good return policies so give it a shot.

PS - I highly recommend the 2XU.  I think I bought the level 3 suit and it is unreal.

Thanks for the replies.  I've been surfing all3sports lately to get an idea too.  I'll probably give it a shot online.

Jason -

I bought my wetsuit summer of 2007 from Promotion (www.wetsuit.com). They won't sell you a suit unless you call them and speak to one of their sales people directly. They asked a lot of questions and when I got my suit it fit perfectly. Still does (except it seems to have shrunk around my belly for some reason). And they were definately on the lower end of cost. Good luck hunting.

Internet.  The few tri shops in CT are overpriced and understocked for wetsuits.  I have a 2XU T:1, which is their base model from last year.  Not fancy but it does the job and wont kill your wallet.

Thanks, I actually found a place called TargetTraining in Westport which is just 10 minutes or so down the road from my office.  I swung by during lunch the other day and they have some 2XU wetsuits in stock now and are expected to get fully restocked by the end of the month.  I'm going to try a couple of them on and know what the internet prices are going in.  The shop seems way better then anything else I've come across.  They have a range of Tri bikes and computerized fitting along with some training programs/coaches and other gear too just for everyone's reference.

I'm planning on picking up the mid range 2XU pending it fits well.

Be careful with them. They are way over priced on virtually everything.  They also tend to carry the flagship models of bikes, wetsuits, etc rather than a selection.

I apologize for making assumptions in the following few sentances, but.... while I am not saying you do not want the 2XU V:1 (for about $600), if you are just getting started in the sport (like me) you may want an entry level model (I have the T:0 from last year which I got for under $200) to make sure you really enjoy the sport.  Same thing for the bike.  Sure you can spend $5000+ on a sweet new tri bike, but why not get a used tri-bike or roadie to start?  For a reference point, last year (my first for tris) I generally placed MOP with my T:0 and 10 year old cannondale ($499 used) without areobars.  I would not have placed substanially better on account of the wetsuit or bike.  That said, all of target's stuff is high end so you will not be buying junk.

Thanks, I realize they aren't a value shop...it is Westport after all.

I'm eyeing the C:1 pending the fit on the medium solid and will do the standard scouring to find the best deal when its time to pull the trigger.

Bike, I'm set.  I bought an 08 Felt F4 roadie a couple of months ago and was able to get them down 30% at a LBS near where I work.  I might do clip on Aeros at some point but not for sprints I'm looking at right now.  I am not overly concerned about being in the drops for 15 miles.  Def not droping another 5k on a cervelo or something right now either...

I'm with you though, it's 95% engine in my opinion...  I decide what I'm willing to spend on a piece of gear and look for whatever I can get in that range that I like most.

Hey, you have a ton of CT races on your schedule.  Are you doing all of those?  Did you do Mystic last year?  That will be my first ever this year...
