Since there is a HUGE group of BT'ers racing/jock-strapping/volunteering at Steelhead, I want to put together some options.

Multi-voting is allowed.  I aim to gauge the interest level and will set up the event(s) accordingly.

For early arrivers, I can arrange an easy ride through SW Michigan wine country with the opportunity to stop for a glass at The Round Barn Winery.  The ride would leave from and finish at Mr. Goody's (4100 M 139, St Joseph, MI, Phone: (269) 429-5760) for burgers, dogs, gyros, sandwiches.  We could also ride from Santianiello's depending on where we end up with our Thursday dinner choice.

I will also set up a dinner for Friday evening.  I want to make it 5:00 pm so that we can all be back to our homes and hotel's for a good night of rest.  Three good choices here with links so you can check out the menus:

  1. Santaniello's
  2. Tosi's
  3. Papa Vino's

Sounds great and I am open to anything Friday. Thursday, I won't be able to make it.

However, I just discovered my first "hiccup" with Steelhead. Last November when I registered for Steelhead, I also made my room reservation at the Holiday Inn Express on Pipestone Rd.

Only thing is I made it for SATURDAY! Not Friday! For some reason, I thought the race was on Sunday. Now since all the rooms in the area are booked, I don't have a place for my wife and I to stay.

Anyone out there that can help, let me know!! I am going to start another post just to get the word out.

But count me in for dinner on Friday as long as I can get close to Benton Harbor.

Unless you can jump on a last-minute cancellation, chances of getting a room in/near St. Joe or Benton Harbor are slim. I'd look in South Haven or South Bend to the south and/or Saugatuck or Holland to the north.

Found a room near transition that someone didn't need, so count me in on Dinner Friday night. It doesn't matter where.

But you have to tell me what "jockstrapping" means!

I may meet you to say hello, but I'm not big on eating at new places before a big race, my stomach is very sensitive, I don't want any surprises.

Friday, August 1 Pre-race Info

11am - Swim:   Meet on the West (beach-facing) side of the Gazebo on South End of Expo.  This is where body-marking takes place.

Noon - Short bike ride:  Meet at the volunteer parking lot near the park entrance (gatehouse).  This is the grassy lot just North of this year's transition area.  This was the T-area in 2007.  We'll then be "wheels-up" at 12:10 to ride the run-portion of the course.  See the green dot on this map: Steelhead Transition Area

4:30pm - Dinner at Tosi's:  I have "preferred seating" for a group of 14 under "Beginner Triathlete."  They are not taking reservations due to the weekend event.  This is the best italian food in town, and they have early dinner specials.  They open for dinner at 4:30 and if we all get there at that time, we shouldn't have a problem.  I will be there.

6:30pm - Dinner at Papa Vinos 1332 Hilltop Road St. Joseph, 269-983-9900:  This is a confirmed reservation for 12 people under "Beginner Triathlete."

PM me if you can make it to a dinner with number attending.  I will confirm dinner lists on Thursday morning on the Iron-distance Forum.

OK.  Very little response to the dinners I set up...

Tosi's at 4:30:  Me, Gregkl (2) - I'm going to cancel this and have dinner in South Bend with my family.  Greg, you're on your own, but should have no problem sneaking two into Tosi's if you arrive at 4:30.  It's a great place that you'll enjoy.

Papa Vino's at 6:30:  kdogtoo (2), BamBam, McFuzz, pshorty - I'm changing the reservation to 8 people under "Beginner Triathlete" in case there are late additions.  I will be home and done with dinner by 6:30.  Enjoy.  It was great last year!  Here is the address and phone:  1332 Hilltop Road St. Joseph, 269-983-9900.

Don't forget, there's also the free Pizza Hut pasta dinner at the race site.  ...4:30-7:00... I think...

Gregkl - 2008-07-11 3:45 PM Found a room near transition that someone didn't need, so count me in on Dinner Friday night. It doesn't matter where. But you have to tell me what "jockstrapping" means!

"Jock-strapping"

When your wife, girlfirend, son, daughter, etc... "support" your race efforts by dropping you off at transition, parking the car, carrying extra food, drinks and dry clothes, taking photos, cheering you on they are "jock-strapping."

Thanks, now I get it! I guess it's my old age! Well, my wife is going to love it when I tell her she is my jockstrap!

Hi Guys,

I am getting a late start here and may not (probably won't) make this dinner. I apologize in advance. Don't wait for me is what I am saying.

Have a great race, everybody!!!
