Overall Rank = 371/671
Age Group = Athena
Age Group Rank = 16/30
Pre-race routine:

Stayed in hotel. Woke early due to late morning party-goers. Weddings at hotel.

Got to the transition around 6:30. Immediately set things up and then went out for 20 minutes on bike.
Event warmup:

Biked the run course and part of the bike course.
Swim
  • 15m 44s
  • 750 yards
  • 02m 06s / 100 yards
Comments:

Not a satisfying performance. I don't know what I was thinking but I could have done better. Didn't guide myself well and let myself drift. Too cocky!
What would you do differently?:

Navigate better. Look up and keep on course. Shoot out faster. Train at faster speeds. I chose not to use my wetsuit to check it out. I think I may have over estimated things. Next time I believe a wetsuit would have helped more with the current.
Transition 1
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Tried to mounting and was shaky getting my feet in. UGH!! Then noticed bike chain off. Had to fix it before mounting. Popped it on quick and got on my way. Wasted time.
What would you do differently?:

Work to slow my anxiety down after the swim. Chain off is accidental.
Bike
  • 58m 39s
  • 17 miles
  • 17.39 mile/hr
Comments:

After chain mishap off and on my way. At transition signs were confusing, went in and out of cones trying to decipher them.
What would you do differently?:

All in all a decent ride. Need to learn to push harder though.
Transition 2
  • 01m 39s
Comments:

Walked when got my first water. HUH??? WHY????
What would you do differently?:

Need to keep up on running and hurrying while trying to slow breath
Run
  • 32m 11s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 21s  min/mile
Comments:

Went out fast. Proud that I actually passed people (first time that happened). Got a side cramp (actually felt it in the bike) and kept going. Mile 2-2.5 felt weak as usual. Had plenty to drink and wore a hydration belt, but didn't use it.
What would you do differently?:

Need to drink more water maybe too much gatorade. Also need to practice more at keeping pace during miles 2-3. Pace seemed to slow too much then. NEED A GOOD HR WATCH WITH LAPS.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around looking for fruit and COLD water. They only gave warm water at finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just me and the need for more training

Great job on the race!!  It's frustrating that your chain was off.  Just another thing to make you worried in transition.    Try taking some really deep breaths in T1 - that helps me slow down a little bit after the swim and help get me more focused for the bike.

GREAT job!!!

I was also there. Orange cap group. I had a lot of trouble in the swim, too.

I'm going to post my own race report.

Congrats to both of us!!

Awesome Race!!!  Even with your chain fix, your T1 time was really fast.

I bet it felt good to get on the run and pass some people after the annoyances in the swim and the transitions. Good job!
