Boosted333 - 2012-01-14 5:44 AM Thanks Erica, what i mentioned is only some of the current issues. I have suffered muscle spasms, muscle twitching, rashes, feelings of spiders under my skin, all sorts of joint pains and aches... ever since i took these antibiotics, all for a sinus infection! I never will take this again, or Cipro or Levquin for that matter. Good news, I jogged 0.3 miles on the treadmill today @ 5.5 mph !! Whoo hoo!!! Did a little core/strength training and foam rolling to warm up first, hopefully I can keep this up without too much pain.

That is GREAT.

Both you and I have been in a place where shuffling a few meters around the house was difficult, painful, and exhausting. Progress may be slow, but it is PROGRESS.

Good on you for fighting the good fight.

I remember you were on the same/similar antibiotic, they can be horrific for active folks like us.

Well, after reading the above, my injuries pale in comparison.  But on a bright note, I'm now allowed to unlock my brace while sitting and laying down, which has made my knee a ton looser because I can bend it a lot more.  I still have to walk in it straight for another 3 weeks though.  I can also officially "bike."  I can only use enough resistence that my leg can push down the pedal relatively easily, and I can only do it for 15 minutes at a time, and I basically don't even go a mile in that time period.  Hence why I call it "biking."  I can also do hip strengthening and core work again, but still no knee strengthening.  It's the small victories, I suppose!

The doctor told me it'll be six months 'til I'm back to before, so it should be a fun and interesting journey.

Lucky for me it's a mild issue, but it's got me depressed anyway, so I'm joining the injured thread . . . achilles tendonitis.  I think it started during a Christmas Day run that ended up a longish hill. Enjoyed being off from work until New Year's, played lots of squash, and noticed my achilles felt "tweaky". Famous last words. Now I'm icing and gentle massage brings tears to my eyes.

So I pulled out of my squash league for the next month, pulled out of a tournament 2 weeks from now, no running, tried a spinning class today with extremely low resistance, and hoping for a swim tomorrow.

Phew . . . done with my pity party. Blame it on endorphin withdrawal.

I got my MRI results back, and it shows a strain and another slight tear in the gastrocs.  I am finally off crutches after 3 weeks, but still in the boot.  I have 3 more weeks in the boot then maybe some walking which I hope will lead to running.   And of course lots of PT. I have a 1/2 marathon the end of April which I would like to start, and then drop out of necessary only because my SIL is going to run it with me and it will be her first HM.  The Dr did say I could swim now which will be nice.  Anyone have any experience with deep water running and this type of injury?  I know deep water running is not the same as regular running, but I am just trying to find some pool alternatives besides just lap swimming.

Monday is 6 weeks post surgery and I can start weaning off the crutches.

I've been going to PT since early January. Facility has all the cool PT toys and you can see Patriot's stadium out the window. Tuesday I will be using the pool with treadmill to work on walking.

I was a bit discouraged by what the PT said about when I can start real training for IMFL not until May or June. She gets triathletes as she did IMAZ in November. Goal is to build strength back up and get movement patterns done correctly before building endurance or power.

I've been riding a bike at Y super easy building up to 30' over last month to build range of motion. I have a neat muscle stim machine I use to do quad sets.

Next couple of weeks will be key to see how my leg handles gradually increase in weight and use.

I've decided besides doing PT both on my leg and soon on my right shoulder due to impingement, focus on dropping some weight as I find it easier to eat well when not training much.

mono. I have mono.

On the one hand I am glad to know that the reason I have felt like dirt for a month and have been unable to push is not just in my head but now I have to actually take it easy

I was finally starting to really get on top of training after last summer's crash (in a bike race) that left me with a fractured elbow (right) and torn shoulder (left).

but I also know that  the EBV can go to the heart which would be a lifetime issue so I will be good.

sigh.

KathyG- I'm also in the "weaning off crutches" phase. I did too much yesterday and my calves and good leg are sore today. It's so hard to go from training and racing to re-learning how to walk. Looks like I'll be doing more pool walking this week. Whee.

Wow! I have not been here in a little while but this thread seems to be getting longer and longer!

So, I have not completed 6 weeks of chemotherapyLaughing!! wooohooo and 25 radiation treatments...another woohooo for me! I have not 2 weeks off and then I will be having 3 internal radiations (aghhh not at all fun or comforting). I have managed to do some little running here and there but mostly just walking. The fatigue caused by radiation is pretty intense but it should start getting better.

The fantastic part is the doc has cleared me to go in the pool as well as to bike!!Smile. I will try this week to go to the pool and do something, I have promised my hubby to be gentle and take it easyLaughing...biking maybe next weekend. In either case I am feeling suuuuuuuuuuuper optimisitc this little journey is coming to an end!

I wish everyone who is not feeling well lots and lots of HEALTH and ability to do what we like! whatever that may be.

peace to all....Alicia

Alicia

I know you will enjoy swimming and biking this week.

Enjoy your two week break before last 3 treatments.

I give up. Today I didn't even make the first 25 meters before the pain set in. I lasted an hour and fifteen minutes and 3,100 meters out of the 3,500 that were on the board, but when I couldn't even do whip kick without pain I gave up and quit. I can't push off the wall, I can't do flip turns, and today I couldn't even do a whip kick.

I thought things were going better, but I was stupid two weeks ago and reached for the cookies. I'm not supposed to stand on my toes, but the Girl Scout cookies were on the second shelf and as I am only 5'2", I had to stand on my toes. I immedately felt the pull and the pop in my foot and ankle. Damn cookies, and they weren't even for me - I was putting them in my husband's lunch!

So, after the quitter's try that I gave today, I have decided to email my physical therapist and have him message my surgeon on what we have done. My P/T is encouraging me to try the cortisone shot so I can wait until summer to have surgery again. I don't want to do either, but I have to do something.

Ugh! I have caving in to an injury!
