Member 3146 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2023 Mentor Group - ALWAYS OPEN A rest day for me after 3 hours of tattooing last night. Artist says to rest until the tat stops hurting to the touch, which should be a day or two. I was planning to take a long walk today, but it is COLD and WINDY out there, so maybe I'll just stay in my warm house and relax. Post-session 1 results, most of the outline, some of the shading (click link--no idea why it doesn't upload the pic directly sometimes) Edited by drfoodlove 2024-11-21 10:28 AM Attachments ---------------- IMG_0532.HEIC (31KB - 5 downloads) |

Hard day on the bike today, with 64 minutes total mostly in Z3 so just an exercise in concentration. The Plan isn't trying to kill me yet, but I can tell it's circling. |

Regular 1779 Auckland, North Island | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2023 Mentor Group - ALWAYS OPEN Originally posted by Rollergirl Interesting, how do you define a key session though? Is it the high intensity stuff of the long easy ones? Both serve their own purposes, not to forget strength sessions… I had a dream I was tested for some stuff, can’t remember exactly what and how but the thing that transpired is that I had very week core. I should take this as a sign to start again looking (again) for ways of making strength training a habit. Well, to paraphrase Animal Farm, 'all workouts are equal, but some are more equal than others' haha. I think the real answer comes down to what is a specific workout trying to achieve, and how does that fit in with what you're training for, and where are you in your season/training plan. i.e. 6 weeks out from an Ironman, your long bike/run brick is pretty key. For me this week, it's getting at least 2 PT workouts in, and they involve an easy-ish ride before as a warm up. And my long ride tonight, which was a pretty brutal mixed interval ride, with 2 x 20 at 95%FTP and 10 x 1 @ 110% FTP. That's going to drive a lot more fitness gains than 60 minutes Z2 riding which is one of the missing workouts. |

Regular 1779 Auckland, North Island | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2023 Mentor Group - ALWAYS OPEN @Mike, nice work on a solid ride. No pain no gain right? @Gretchen, My computer doesn't like apple images either @Nat, Definitely need strength work. I'm 100% up for another challenge, but at the moment my PT stuff is taking up so much time I'm not sure about adding more. My next review is mid December, maybe after that we can set up a new year, new me type strength challenge again, like we did earlier in the year? @Me. As I'm going to be out of town working on Sunday, I took Friday off to try and finish up sorting the post landscaping mess. A pretty productive day, got through so much I'm not going to have all day Saturday working. So happy days. I also made it to the pool again, a bit more of a real swim workout this time, 1,500m, and every interval under the magic 2:00/100m so considering how cr@p I've been at getting to the pool I'm quite pleased with that, I'm in a reasonably good place to launch into it over the next few weeks. I also did my long ride, as alluded to above. A bit of an intimidating workout looking at it in training peaks. And although I was off the aero bars earlier than I would have liked very happy with how it went. A busy day tomorrow with family stuff, am run and pm ride. And then of course Sunday trying to make a machine go. Fun times. Have a good weekend all. |

Member 3146 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2023 Mentor Group - ALWAYS OPEN Back running after tattoo session. Artist said to wait until it didn’t hurt. I did, but then that was rest day Sunday so, of course I spent five hours taking leaves and another four hours working and three hours standing on my feet meal prepping for the week. Of course I did. Anyway, fun little 35’ fast finish run (5’ Z1, 25’ Z2, 5’Z3) with the Purl. I leave Friday for Egypt, so I have to enjoy these runs with her while I can. Next week I’ll get to “enjoy” runs with two packs of feral dogs. |

Expert 4924 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2023 Mentor Group - ALWAYS OPEN Had a busy weekend around here...Saturday was an unplanned test day with more CSS testing at Masters. That HURT. I was a tad slower than the week before but I had just done a strength training session the day before. They did their protocol a little differently, and I would have like to have been more warmed up before the all-out 200 (then after about 10-15 minutes we did a 500). Came home and labored through about 40 minutes on the treadmill. Sunday we had over 30 people here so bailed on my long ride to get ready (first missed workout on The Plan so far). |

I must have missed that, how long are you going for this time? Probably an easier trip Marathon training instead of long distance tris. @Mike, Nice work ticking everything off. Especially the surprise fitness test. Just what you want after test week. @Nicole, +2, how's the leg? Hope all is well. |

Regular 1779 Auckland, North Island | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2023 Mentor Group - ALWAYS OPEN A very disrupted week 9 of Ironman training complete. Kind of. Work/travel very much won this week. Both directly taking away training opportunities, and causing so much extra fatuige rest and recovery was needed when I got home. In the end I managed, Swim, x1, 1,500m, 37min Bike, x3, 4hr 30min Run, x2, 2hr 13 min Strength, x3, 1hr 5 min, 2 x physio ,1 x stretch. So a total of about 8 1/2 hours of workouts, and 3 days of nothing. So the 4 active days were hit pretty hard. Highlights of the week, my best swim in months. Longest swim, and felt great. Winning all around. And my long ride. As described previously 2 hours of hard intervals. Shattered afterwards but very satisfying. And reassuring that I could complete such a hard workout. This week, is going to be another compromised week. Mrs BF and I are off tomorrow for 4 days for our anniversary. I'll be bringing my running shoes, but training isn't going to be the focus. Have a good week team. |

Expert 4924 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2023 Mentor Group - ALWAYS OPEN @Andrew: still a good week all things considered @Gretchen: not the feral dogs - how long are going to Egypt for? @Nathalie and Nicole: how you ladies doing? Good start to the week for me with a little schedule modification to account for (maybe) racing a Turkey Trot on Thursday, weather permitting. Cold rain = no go for this team. Yes I'm a wimp. Got in a good session at the gym yesterday and hit the Pain Cave for bike/run/strength at 5:45 AM this morning after staying up late watching the Ravens. I'm tired but surviving. I have my yearly health checkup with my doc today - I have some weird numbers on my lab work (low blood counts, both red and white), but my HDLs are off the charts high (which is good, but it also makes my total cholesterol number high). I'm sure he'll say "meh". Hope everyone is having a good week so far. |

Member 3146 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2023 Mentor Group - ALWAYS OPEN Andrew--solid week, but I'm unsure what you are talking about when you say training isn't the primary focus when you are going away with your wife for an anniversary weekend. New place=new training routes! (and yes...my wife is an absolute saint to put up with my sh|t). Mike--I love a good turkey trot, but vowed to never do another one the year my sister's family and I did one and we didn't rock back to the house until almost noon. My brother (who did not do the trot and was extremely hungover) nearly killed us all, because my mom was panicking about getting dinner on the table without any help (i.e., me). So now I do a 5k in the morning turkey going into the oven...on my own...in the country...in the dark. I'll be in Egypt for about three weeks, so a very short trip this year (comparatively speaking). I leave from my parents' house on Friday and then return on 23rd. Leaving from my folks' house has added a level of packing difficulty that may just do my brain in. But...I've booked a business class ticket to have the best chance of hitting the ground running and not exhausted and so I have 2 checked bags of 70# each, which just means I can pack every thing I own and sort it out once I get there. I leave in just under 24 hours. I haven't packed a thing. I still have a load of stuff in the washer waiting to go into the dryer because the dryer has the load of air-fluff only things that just will not dry. I'm out doing myself this time with the packing insanity! |
