Subject: 405 firmware upgrade
Trying to upgrade my Garmin 405's firmware.  I have searched all over.  I have the latest garmin communicator, web updater, etc.  I get to the point where the Ant software shows the firmware update is ready to be transferred.  The garmin connects, says Loader Loading then after a little while it resets itself but the firmware was not applied ( I checked the About option). 

Any ideas?

Thanks, I emailed product support.  They sent me the below but that doesn't work either:

It is my pleasure to assist you. I'm sorry to hear you are having trouble updating your Forerunner 405. Please follow the steps below.

 

1. Right click on the ANT+ Agent icon.

2. Click on "Device Settings."

3. Check the box next to "Clear pending transfers to device (this time only.)

4. Remove and re-insert the ANT+ stick.

5. Download the update from the following link. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/fr405update.jsp

Customer support came thru (this worked but it wipes out the data on your watch)

Please make sure you have all of your workout history transferred into Garmin Connect or Garmin Training Center and then master reset your device.

 

**Warning performing a master reset will erase all stored history. **

 

To do a master reset please follow the steps below.

 

1. Press and hold Start/Stop + Lap/Reset.

2. When the screen goes blank release the Start/Stop key.
3. 3-5 seconds after releasing Start/Stop release the Lap/Reset key.

4. Press Start/Stop to select when prompted to "Erase all user data?".

 

After the master reset please follow the steps below to re-run the firmware update.

 

1. Right click on the ANT+ Agent icon.

2. Click on "Device Settings."

3. Check the box next to "Clear pending transfers to device (this time only.)

4. Remove and re-insert the ANT+ stick.
