I been writing down the story of my life for my son. One chapter on my "racing career" something I been working on recently. Trying to motivate me to get out there even again if for one last time.

So looking for some past race results and they were gone. If the race every closes up, gets a new timing service, or just because its been 10 years you never know. Lucky for me at least one of them was in a newspaper. So just public service you work hard to do your triathlon race. Maybe you do a nice race report. Make sure you store it locally with a backup. Even if you just take a screenshot that you store on a hard drive and google cloud. This way hopefully it will always be there if or when you need it.

I also stress cloud backups as well as local ones because I lost some race photos I took due to a hard drive crash.

Optical Discs (DVD / blu-rays )are also nice backup but make sure about every 10 to 15 years you refresh your copy

Great advice.  I backup my race reports here from BT (just do screen prints) and export my training logs fairly regularly.

As for race results - they're often somewhere on the interwebs but not necessarily where they originated.  You can also look for them on the internet archive site Wayback Machine at archive.org.

But yeah - there are some that just go "poof" once someone decides not to pay for the hosting service anymore.

https://www.athlinks.com/is another great site that has most of my race results. Though my one half ironman has me listed on the run as 7:36:49. For the record my overall time was 8:29:27. The other splits are ok just not the run. For some reason and official results now only display up to 6 hour finishers. So you never know. One of my Marathons turned into a half marathon and now just a 5k so they have me listed for a 6 hour 5k now.

if I did a race tomorrow. I would create a directory on my pc. I would put all the the pics in there. Along with a race report I would create in just in word or even notepad. get a PDF of the official race results and put all in that directory. Then take that directory and put it on google drive. Now you should have it for the rest of your life.

Thanks I just found my results for Racine Half I thought I lost. Looks like they had my run time as 7 hours but total was correct so I did not bother to look into correcting it.

Another thing I found with the Spirit of Racine is the company that owned it back in 2007 still has the race results on there site but for some reason only listing top 2/3 of the finishers.

Hmmm…

So if there are no “reliable “ records of those race results, who could be blamed for a faulty memory changing my performance to something more amazing???

(just kidding, thanks to BT, those details have been preserved)

yeah I am very glad they are here on BT. I may very well if I ever race again come back and put the race results here. I have not done a race since 2015.
