![]() Swim
Comments: Not 400m, more like 350 but a good swim time nonetheless, goal (knowing it was shorter) was 8 minutes so already over a minute faster Great swim, a lot of people but managed to find my space and cruise along. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: A little dizzy after the swim and some difficulty removing my wetsuit but a good T1 (fastest of all the 79 contestants, of course :) ) What would you do differently?: Practice more. ![]() Bike
Comments: A little longer than 20k (20.66 according to my Garmin) so one minute slower than goal time but still averaging around 30 km/h,as per game plan. I wasn’t sure about my bike form but it went well, would I have enough energy for the run though? Sipped on my flat Coke all the way. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Had to sit down to put my shoes on but other than that, a good T2 ![]() Run
Comments: Most pleased with the run. Felt great from the start. My goal was to do it in 30 minutes, so 6 min/km First one 5:40 with some uphill. 2nd one with one killer hill, also under 6 (5:54), 3rd with another killer hill but also the start of the descent in 5:40. After that, it’s all downhill and I was able to finish strongly in 5:11 and 4:56. Finished the tube of chestnut puree at the start of the 2nd killer hill. First time I pass TWO girls on the run, one just at the start. The second one had passed me with about 1.5km left but I didn’t let her get too far away (I’m gonna beat that b!tch ;) ) and sprinted pass her with 100m left. I didn’t know at the time but there was another 2 girls right behind. We were 4 to finish within 7 seconds! ************* 2nd place of all women, sandwiched between two 35 year olds, pretty happy with that too. Winner 2:35 faster so no regrets, even my best time 3 years ago would have been over a minute and a half too slow. And as I always say, winning or not is about who turns up, I’d rather have a good race and be 5th than a crap race and win because all the fast ones weren’t taking part. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Didn’t puke (sorry Gretchen) but I was pretty much finished. Gave it all for the first time this season. Event comments: My home race, 10th edition. Many more participants than the last few years (I was part of a team in charge of advertising the race, and we did a good job, even if I say so myself) Last updated: 2025-08-30 12:00 AM

Home race, 10th edition, I’ve done 9 of them (DNS the first one due to illness -or so I thought at the time, it was probably race nerves)
Up at 7, walked to the site with the dog to pick up my starter pack. Back home, had breakfast (oatmeal and berries, ham and cheese toasty and one slice of banana bread). Back there around 9, one hour before start.
Goal for this race was to go under 1h20. Best time ever on this course is 1h16:19 but I knew I was not going to beat that.
A little jog, a little stretch, a few strokes in the lake just before race. Oh and another slice of banana bread with chestnut purée on top.
