Thanks Mike for posting some details. And it looks like great stuff, too. I love specific instructions for my workouts. Love the 'run like a Kenyan' reference.

My first year of tri-ing, I found the couch to 5k plan on this site. After working up to 30 minutes of running I followed one of the free beginner sprint plans here.

For some reason, after that, I didn't think of myself as a beginner any more, so I left this site and sought out information elsewhere, and found those two training plan books I mentioned.

It wasn't till the beginning of this year, my 4th season, that I was researching online workout log tools. A friend, MtnJay, told me to check out BT logs. I liked BT best of all the stuff I tried, for logging workouts, so here I am back.

Too bad I didn't just stay here in the first place and look at those silver and gold plans. This site should aslo be called 'veterantriathlete.com' or 'greattriathletecommunity.com' or I'm sure lots of other things!

PS: Sometimes I tell people I meet at races about Beginnertriathlete.com. They look at me like I'm crazy, and their expression says "what do you need a beginner website for?". I tell them that BT is not just for beginners!

I agree.  I will most likely use a BT plan when I train for my first IM in 2010.  I just can't afford a coach and with my travel schedule, I am not sure a coach would be real beneficial since I can't always do what I should be doing at any given day.

IMO, this is one of the cases where a coach would be most beneficial.  If you and the coach are on the same page, it should be possible to look at your schedule and plan (and modify) accordingly.

Shane,  thanks for this perspective, I never thought about that.  I think you are correct that if a coach knows up front that I may have to use a motel bike or replace a swim with a run, he would be better able to help me vs. me trying to compensate.  I am going to use a BT plan for my IM in 2010.  It sounds like I can get great training for a very modest price!  Heck, if all goes well, maybe I will have some money for a set of race wheels!  All I have to do is tell my wife that a coach will cost $200 per month or I could get 6 months for $85 and put the rest towards wheels.Cool

Thanks - and you are welcome. I like people to see that workouts aren't listed as:
Run 30 minutes today - easy. I see that all the time. Ugh.

You are right about BT - pretty funny really that over the years, we have people on the site who are not only have been doing tri's for 4-5 years, but they've progressed up to IM. That's a testament to Ron and the community he has built here.

I have been following this thread with interest and have looked at the plans offered by BT. I want to do a few tris next summer and certainly don't have all the time and resources to be my own coach and do an effective job to meet my goals. The thing I think I need the most help with is nutrition...at what level is that supported in the plans?

Thanks,
J

J - we can help with a basic nutrition plan and certainly more with race day nutrition more than anything else. There is a nutritionist on this site as well that you could contact for more info as well.
