Supersprint
19C / 66F
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 27m 40s
Overall Rank = 870/1800
Age Group = 30 - 34
Age Group Rank = 26/37
Pre-race routine:

Just did what I normally do - had cereal and water and got ready to go!
Event warmup:

Did some stretching and also did a bit of a swim in the wetsuit before my wave started - felt good - but the water was COLD.
Swim
  • 11m 16s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 15s / 100 meters
Comments:

OK - for the first time in my brief triathlon career (I have done 2 mini-sprints) I felt prepared and ready for this swim and knew that I could do it - no doubt at all. I was also warm and looking forward to the open water. It was a very hard first 200m, women were really crazy - pulling me, kicking each other - ahhhhh - the way back was much nicer as the field had spread out a bit - I actually enjoyed brining it home. I also passed a few people from the wave before me and that felt great!
What would you do differently?:

Position myself better in the pack before starting the race - I am a fairly strong swimmer but should probably have put myself in the middle of the starting pack?
Transition 1
  • 02m 52s
Comments:

Not bad, not bad - the race was really well organised and you didn't have to run forever to get to your bike or out of the compound which was a nice change to my previous experiences.
What would you do differently?:

Just get to know how to get my wetsuit off more quickly.
Bike
  • 42m 47s
  • 20 kms
  • 28.05 km/hr
Comments:

I had no problem with 20kms - probably could have gone harder - not sure whether to be in a lower gear and spin harder or a higher gear and spin less??? There are lessons to be learnt here.
What would you do differently?:

I think I could have pushed much harder than I did - it only took me a minute to recover from the swim and then I just really enjoyed my ride :)
Transition 2
  • 02m 40s
Comments:

I have to practice getting off my bike more quickly - getting my feet out of my bike shoes and into my running shoes more quickly
What would you do differently?:

Practice this transition a LOT more
Run
  • 28m 7s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 37s  min/km
Comments:

I ENJOYEd it! The strange thing is that I was thinking about what I was going to eat afterwards (pancakes) and also was trying to remember as many BTer's names as possible - motivated, triman50, autumn, aikane, andrea, nytrigal, gatorgirl, kimj81, chrism, akuma, skull, lara sd, poohbear, trimom, steve, whizzer etc etc - I was just playing a game with myself to stop from getting bored! Imagine what I will do if I ever run a marathon! he he.
What would you do differently?:

Run much harder - I had a lot left in the tank at the end of this run!
Post race
Warm down:

Drank some water and gatorade and then went and had pancakes with Gary and Jack. Did a little stretching too.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just myself and my belief in my ability.

Event comments:

I am shocked at how GREAT I felt throughout the whole race - no pain - no times where I wished it was over - I just enjoyed it and could have pushed a LOT LOT harder. I am still amazed at what a difference 6 sessions of planned training has made to my level of fitness and ability in that race. Now I just can't wait for OLYMPIC!

Wow!!! well done!! Your race report was fun to read.  I still haven't done my first tri, and I love reading reports where people obviously had so much fun - very inspiring.  Congrats

Well Done!! Got to love the swim leg!!

Good luck for the Olympic distance Tri, you'll have a ball, it is so rewarding to cross that finish line and know all the training was worth it. I just completed the Noosa Tri a couple of weeks ago and I'm still on a high.
